Summerside woman dies in 2-vehicle crash in Wellington Centre, P.E.I.

A 43-year-old woman from Summerside died after a two-vehicle collision on Route 2 in the Wellington Centre area of Prince County Wednesday afternoon. East Prince RCMP said in a news release they received a 911 call about the crash at about 3:30 p.m. When officers arrived, Island EMS and the Miscouche Fire Department were already on the scene. Both drivers were the sole occupants of their vehicles, which were severely damaged. Paramedics pronounced the woman dead at the scene. The other driver suffered serious injuries. Firefighters had to extract him from his vehicle, and he was taken to Prince County Hospital for treatment. "At this time, it appears one of the vehicles swerved into oncoming traffic. Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the collision; however, the investigation is ongoing," the release read. An RCMP collision analyst and a provincial coroner also attended the scene.

East Prince RCMP received a 911 call about a two-vehicle collision on Route 2 around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. Police believe one of the vehicles swerved into oncoming traffic. Both vehicles were severely damaged. The Summerside woman was pronounced dead at the scene by Island EMS. 'The other driver was extracted from his vehicle by Miscouche Fire Department and taken to Prince County Hospital with serious injuries,' said the P.E.I. RCMP in a news release. The two drivers were the only occupants of the vehicles. Police say alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the collision, but add the investigation is ongoing.
