DOE aids 90 Orang Asli families in Pos Pulat ahead of dam project
GUA MUSANG: The Department of Environment (DOE) has extended support to nearly 90 Orang Asli families from the Temiar tribe in Pos Pulat, ensuring their welfare as the Nenggiri Hydroelectric Dam project progresses. Kelantan DOE director Wan Aminordin Wan Kamaruddin highlighted the collaborative effort involving 15 government and private agencies. 'With Pos Pulat set to be submerged due to the dam construction, we aim to uplift the community through housing and social initiatives before their relocation,' he said. The efforts were unveiled during the 4Xplore Teroka Alam programme, marking World Environment Day 2025 at the state level. Nenggiri assemblyman Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani also attended the event. Wan Aminordin noted the three-day programme (June 26–28) seeks to foster unity between the Orang Asli and urban communities while promoting environmental awareness. 'Sports and shared activities help build goodwill. The Temiar tribe has shown remarkable cooperation, sacrificing their ancestral land for regional economic growth,' he added.

Developer, quarry companies to repair damage caused by overloaded lorries
GUA MUSANG: The developer of the Kemubu Small Hydropower Project (PHK), along with several quarry companies, have agreed to repair road damage caused by the movement of lorries carrying excessive loads to the project site in Mukim Kuala Stong, Dabong in Kuala Krai. The Kelantan Public Works Department (JKR) director Nik Soh Yaacoub said that damage was detected on several main routes, including the D233 Jalan Kemubu-Bertam and D229 Jalan Kampung Biak routes in Kuala Krai, as well as the D235 Jalan Bertam Lama-Jerek route and part of the D233 route in the Gua Musang area. "The developer will repair the roads back to their original condition, involving the sub-base to the premix surface, to ensure the roads are restored. The roads in question have been damaged down to the base structure due to lorries carrying heavy loads of rocks from the quarry in Gua Musang to the PHK in Kemubu,´ he said to Bernama on Wednesday (June 25). On June 17, Bernama reported that approximately 5,000 road users faced the risk of accidents and vehicle damage due to the severely damaged road conditions in Kampung Bertam Lama here. Meanwhile, Nenggiri assemblyman Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani when met in in Kampung Bertam Lama today said his team hopes that the quality monitoring conducted by the JKR will ensure that the repaired roads can be used for a long period, even when traversed by overloaded lorries with construction materials. - Bernama

JAKOA brings gov't services to remote Orang Asli settlements in Nenggiri
GUA MUSANG: The Department of Orang Asli Development (JAKOA), together with various government agencies, has launched an outreach expedition to deliver essential services to three remote Orang Asli settlements in the Nenggiri state constituency under the Mesra Rakyat (People-Friendly) programme. JAKOA director-general Datuk Sapiah Mohd Nor said the programme involved strategic collaboration with several government agencies. They include the Social Welfare Department, National Registration Department (NRD), Ministry of Health, National Anti-Drugs Agency, Gua Musang Court, South Kelantan Development Authority and the Nenggiri state assemblyman's service centre. She said the collaboration aimed to facilitate direct access to government services for the Orang Asli, without requiring them to endure long and difficult journeys to town, with Pos Simpor, Pos Pasik and Kuala Wook selected as the destinations for the two-day expedition, which began yesterday. 'This initiative is the result of coordination among various agencies under the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development,' she told reporters during the programme at Pos Pasik, here today. Meanwhile, Nenggiri assemblyman Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani said the initiative received overwhelming support from local residents, who took advantage of the chance to engage directly with various government agencies present. The most popular service was the NRD counter, which received about 140 applications for identity card replacements, 10 late birth registration applications, and 145 applications for MyKid. 'A total of 138 advisory services were also provided to residents regarding documentation and citizenship rights,' he said. Meanwhile, for Zulaina Alim, 30, a Temiar woman living in Pos Pasik, the programme marked a turning point in her life when she finally managed to register the birth of her child, who is now 12 years old. She said her child was born at the Kuala Betis resettlement scheme health clinic, but she had to return to her village, more than 70 kilometres away from Gua Musang shortly after giving birth, causing the registration to be delayed for more than a decade. 'I came today solely to apply for the birth certificate and Alhamdulillah, the process went smoothly. My child will finally have a birth certificate,' she said.
