19-year-old identified as body found in Dayton neighborhood
Police are investigating after a person's body was found near a Dayton home on Thursday morning. [DOWNLOAD: Free WHIO-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] Darion Jones, 19, was identified Monday by the Montgomery County Coroner's Office. As previously reported, Dayton officers were called to the area of W. Grand and Lexington Avenues on Thursday morning on a suspicious circumstances call. Mount Gilead pays respects to slain sheriff's deputy
MOUNT GILEAD, Ohio (WCMH) – The body of Morrow County Sheriff's Deputy Daniel Sherrer was returned to Mount Gilead on Wednesday, less than 48 hours after he was shot and killed on Memorial Day in Marengo. The main street in downtown Mount Gilead was shut down as people lined both sides, waiting for the procession. Dozens of law enforcement vehicles escorted him from the Montgomery County Coroner's Office. First responders line roads as body of killed deputy returned to Morrow County 'All these people that were lined up and all the officers that showed up for all, from all the different counties to show their respect and love, it's amazing to see something in such a small area,' Morrow County resident Brittany Daniel said. County residents said they've been in shock since Sherrer was killed, and on Wednesday, many wanted to pay their respects. 'With it being the first one to ever happen at the Morrow County Sheriff's Office, it just, it's painful,' resident Dylon Gandee said. It was silent as everyone watched the ambulance carrying Sherrer pass. Many Mount Gilead police officers were part of the procession and the mother and grandmother of one of those officers said it's been a tough few days. Why Ohio flags will fly at half-staff beginning May 27, 2025 'We've always been concerned when he goes out and you never know what's going to happen and everything, but, you know, we pray, we pray for his safety,' Anita Meadows, the grandmother of a Mount Gilead police officer, said. 'It hits pretty close, a little too close,' Lena Davis, that officer's mother, said. 'It's emotional for me because it could happen to anybody. Both Davis and Meadows said the Mount Gilead officer was close with Sherrer. 'They were great friends and he knew him personally, our grandson, so it's, you know, it's just hard for us to know that, you know, he's taking it hard, too,' Meadows said. Even those who didn't know Sherrer personally said it's been an emotional time for everyone in the close-knit community. 'This little town, I've lived here my entire life, 32 years, and just something this tragic happening in this little of an area, I have no words,' Daniel said. Victoria's Secret responds after website, app shutdown leaving customers in the dark When the procession arrived in Mount Gilead, everyone watched in silence as Sherrer's body was moved from the ambulance into the funeral home. It was a powerful show of respect for Sherrer and the Morrow County Sheriff's Office. 'It means a lot,' Davis said. 'It should be this way. It should be this way. It should always be this way. I'm happy to see everybody come out to support.' 'I just thank him for his service and sacrifice,' Gandee said. Sherrer's funeral arrangements have not yet been publicly announced. 21-year-old dead after motorcycle crash in Dayton
A 21-year-old is dead after a crash involving a motorcycle in Dayton Monday night. [DOWNLOAD: Free WHIO-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] As News Center 7 previously reported, a crash was reported at the intersection of Frederick Pike and Rivers Edge Boulevard at approximately 8:49 p.m., a Montgomery County dispatch supervisor confirmed. Driver crashes while picking up phone on floor, killing 46-year-old motorcyclist
A 46-year-old man is dead after a crash in Dayton on Saturday. [DOWNLOAD: Free WHIO-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] Around 4:30 p.m. Dayton police were called to 400 block of Watervliet Avenue for a crash with injuries. A Chevrolet Traverse was traveling southbound on Watervliet Avenue when it crossed over the centerline while 'picking a phone off the floor,' according to a Dayton police crash report. Small earthquake detected in Ohio The Traverse crossed the centerline and hit a Chevrolet Cobalt. The Traverse also hit a motorcycle being driven by 46-year-old Arthur Peters, according to the Montgomery County Coroner's Office. Peters died from his injuries at a local hospital. The drivers of the Traverse and Cobalt were not injured. We are working to learn if anyone is facing charges and further information about the crash. We will continue to follow this story.
