Fire dept D-G condemns staged disappearance: 'We don't joke about lives'

PETALING JAYA: "What angered us most is how the image of our rescue personnel was mocked and ridiculed, when in fact, we take matters involving lives very seriously." Those were the words of Fire and Rescue Department director-general Datuk Nor Hisham Mohammad in response to the actions of a social media influencer who fled to Thailand after staging a fake disappearance at Sungai Tui, Bukit Kepong, Muar, as reported in Kosmo!. Following the incident, Nor Hisham said the department lodged a police report at the Muar District Police Headquarters at 11.30am two days ago over the false report filed by the man, Tengku Nizaruddin Tengku Zainudin, 38. Nor Hisham said the report was made to ensure appropriate action is taken against the individual for tarnishing the image of the rescue team. "We strongly condemn the individual's highly irresponsible behaviour. His actions are utterly disgraceful. "They also resulted in substantial losses and endangered the lives of our divers," he said when contacted by Kosmo! yesterday. Nor Hisham added that the hoax created a gap in services, as the team was unable to respond to other real emergencies. "For instance, during the incident, we couldn't attend to another case because all personnel were fully mobilised, camping out for days to rescue someone who was never actually missing. "His actions caused major losses to the department through wasted resources and time — such as the added cost of deploying divers throughout the search and rescue (SAR) operation," he said. Nor Hisham added that every individual must act responsibly and consider the consequences of their actions. On July 19, it was reported that the motoring influencer who was reported missing after his car was found submerged in Bukit Kepong on July 14 is alive and has allegedly fled to a neighbouring country, police said. Police believe the disappearance was staged, with the man allegedly conspiring with his 30-year-old brother to fabricate the incident. Fire and Rescue Department had spent four days tirelessly searching for him after reports claimed he had gone missing in Sungai Tui, Bukit Kepong, Muar, last Tuesday. "Our reason for lodging the police report was to prevent this from becoming a trend, where others may follow suit by making false emergency calls. "Therefore, we took the initiative to urge the police to investigate the individual," he said. Johor Zone 4 Fire and Rescue chief Senior Fire Superintendent II Norshuhada Amsari said she lodged the police repor t on the instruction of Nor Hisham. The staged disappearance involved sinking his wife's Perodua Axia into Sungai Tui, Bukit Kepong, to make it appear as though he had drowned. The elaborate act triggered a massive SAR operation involving 77 officers and personnel from various agencies, including divers and sniffer dog units, before being called off last Friday. The hoax was uncovered when his 30-year-old younger sibling finally spoke up during police questioning. Tengku Nizaruddin eventually turned himself in at Muar Police Station last Saturday, where both he and his brother gave their statements to the police.

JBPM files report after motoring influencer fakes drowning, flees to neighbouring country

The report was lodged at the Muar District Police Headquarters (IPD) at 11.30am yesterday on the advice of JBPM Director-General Datuk Nor Hisham Mohammad. 21 Jul 2025 05:31pm The Water Rescue Team (PPDA) was also assigned to the scene, in addition to the deployment of seven assets, including a drone from the Fire Department. - Photo courtesy of JBPM MUAR - The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) has lodged a police report against a motoring influencer and his younger brother for lodging a false report regarding the influencer's alleged disappearance in Sungai Tui, Jalan Bukit Kepong, here last Monday. JBPM Johor Zone 4 chief Senior Fire Superintendent II Norshuhada Amsari said the report was lodged at the Muar District Police Headquarters (IPD) at 11.30 am yesterday on the advice of JBPM Director-General Datuk Nor Hisham Mohammad. "JBPM views the act of making a false report related to a disappearance or accident as irresponsible and inappropriate, as it leads to a waste of time and resources of rescue personnel. "Moreover, it affects the response to other emergencies, as officers and personnel are focused at the reported location. Such actions also undermine public trust in agencies like ours,' she told Bernama when contacted today. Norshuhada said the report was also aimed at reminding the public not to engage in such frivolous acts that disrupt the responsibilities of rescue teams. She said that during the four-day search and rescue operation, more than 30 JBPM officers and personnel from Muar, Labis and Pagoh were deployed to the location immediately after the influencer's younger brother filed the missing person report. "The Water Rescue Team (PPDA) was also assigned to the scene, in addition to the deployment of seven assets, including a drone from the Fire Department. "We were quite disappointed when police later informed us that the individual was in fact safe and had never been at the reported search location,' she said. Norshuhada also expressed appreciation to all involved, especially the rescue personnel who carried out their duties with dedication, and she hoped the individuals involved would come forward and issue a public apology. Recently, the media reported that a businessman and owner of a vehicle accessories shop was reported missing after the Perodua Axia he was driving allegedly plunged into Sungai Tui. However, Muar District Police Chief ACP Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said on Saturday that investigations revealed the 38-year-old man had allegedly staged his disappearance before fleeing to a neighbouring country, with his brother believed to have conspired by giving false statements for personal gain. - BERNAMA More Like This

‘I swam towards it': Friend's emotional search for missing influencer

He added that the car windows were open and the doors unlocked, but murky water made it difficult to tell if Ija was inside. Mohammad Syahmi shows a photo of Tengku Nizaruddin who is feared missing. MUAR - A desperate friend swam through murky waters to inspect a sunken car, only to confirm it belonged to missing influencer Ija Nizaruddin, intensifying efforts to locate him in Sungai Tui, Muar. Muhammad Syahmi Mansur, 30, who has been close to Ija for years, recounted the moment he and several friends sprang into action after learning about Ija's disappearance on Monday night. "We were told his car had gone missing, so that same night, nine friends and I searched for Ija based on the last known GPS location provided by his wife," he said. Their night-long search stretched as far as Muar, but to no avail. It was not until the next day that a clue emerged. 'Coincidentally, a Rela officer told us they spotted a car in the river. When I took a closer look, I swam straight towards it. 'I saw the car accessory shop sticker belonging to Ija on the rear window and I was certain it was his car,' Syahmi said. He added that the car windows were open and the doors unlocked, but murky water made it difficult to tell if Ija was inside. 'I tried diving and felt like there was something when I extended my foot, but I was not sure. I immediately informed the police and the fire department came to inspect,' he shared. Search and rescue operations at Sungai Tui involve both police and fire department personnel. According to Syahmi, Ija had planned to drop off his car at a friend's workshop in Muar before visiting his younger brother, Tengku Abdul Aziz, in Bukit Kepong. Syahmi also mentioned that Ija never had enemies. 'We have known each other for a long time, through thick and thin. Ija was always a very positive person. 'The last time I saw Ija was the previous Sunday and that night we managed to talk about shirts over the phone,' he said. Syahmi hopes for Ija's safe discovery and prays the authorities find new leads. Pagoh Fire and Rescue Station Operation Commander, Nor Alfatah Omar, confirmed his team responded to a call on Tuesday and found a Perodua Axia submerged in roughly two metres of river water. Meanwhile, Muar District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz, confirmed that a full search and rescue (SAR) operation is underway. 'Police urge members of the public with any information related to the incident to come forward or contact the Muar District Police Headquarters (IPD) to assist in the investigation,' he said. The workshop owner said his brother never showed up. 16 Jul 2025 10:01am Motoring influencer Tengku Nizaruddin Tengku Zainudin, 38, better known as Ija Nizaruddin, was reported missing after the Perodua Axia he was driving was found submerged in the river this evening, with no trace of him inside. MUAR - What was initially thought to be one of a man's usual jokes took a worrying turn for his family when his vehicle was found in Sungai Tui along Jalan Bukit Kepong here on Tuesday. His younger brother, Tengku Abdul Aziz, 30, said they last met around 2pm on Monday after travelling separately from Johor Bahru to Muar. "We left Johor Bahru in separate vehicles for business purposes. I went to a different place, while my brother told me he wanted to go to his friend's workshop in Parit Jawa. Retired accountant scammed of RM302,100 in fake stock investment scheme

MUAR: A retired accountant was left devastated after losing his life savings of RM302,100 to a non-existent stock investment syndicate. The 72-year-old victim is believed to have received a WhatsApp message from an unknown number on March 10, offering him an opportunity to invest in stocks. District police chief Assistant Commissioner Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said that without much thought, the victim was enticed by the offer made by the syndicate. The elderly man was then added to a WhatsApp group related to the investment and was briefed on the potential profits he could gain. "Subsequently, on April 15 and 16, the victim made three transactions into a bank account registered under the name of an investment company. "After transferring the funds, the victim noticed a profit reflected in the application provided to him, based on the capital he had invested. "However, he began to grow suspicious and suspected he had been scammed when he was unable to withdraw his profits," he said in a statement. As a result, Raiz Mukhliz said the victim, who is also a retired accountant, lodged a police report at the Muar District Police Headquarters yesterday for further action. Police have launched an investigation under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. "The public is reminded to remain vigilant and not be easily swayed by offers that seem too good to be true, as such tactics are commonly used by fraud syndicates to deceive victims," he added.
