As Brent Musburger is honored by the Hall of Fame, here's a look at the iconic voices in sports
The incomparable Brent Musburger finally receives tonight the 2025 Pete Rozelle Radio-Television Award from the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Musburger hosted The NFL Today on CBS before becoming a big-event play-by-play voice for college football and basketball. He will always be known for his goosebump-inducing catchphrase, 'You are looking live.' In honor of Murburger's award, Michael Holley and I did a draft on Friday's PFT Live of iconic voices in sports. It's hard to argue with any of them, and it was a fun trip down memory lane. Most of our picks have won the award Musburger receives tonight. It was long overdue, but it's better late than never.

Brent Musburger will join NBC's Hall of Fame Game broadcast
In a few hours, you will be looking live at the first game of the 2025 preseason, and a familiar face to football fans will be on your screen. The Pro Football Hall of Fame Game kicks off at 8 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock, and Brent Musburger will be part of the broadcast, first with an interview on Football Night in America at 7 p.m., and then in the booth with Mike Tirico and Cris Collinsworth during the second half of the game. Musburger, in Canton to be honored with the Hall of Fame's Pete Rozelle Radio Television Award, will speak with Maria Taylor in pregame about the honor, and then will take a seat in the broadcast booth, as he has so many times in his career, later in the night. To many football fans, Musburger is best remembered for hosting The NFL Today on CBS from 1975 through 1989. In those days, when it wasn't easy to find up-to-the-minute sports news, hearing Musburger's voice booming, 'You are looking live' served as the official announcement that NFL kickoff was approaching, and viewers were in the only place to learn the late-breaking news that would affect Sunday's games. Musburger has also called hundreds of football games, both NFL and college, in the broadcast booth, and tonight he'll step into the booth one more time.

Brent Musburger wins the 2025 Pete Rozelle Radio-Television Award from the Hall of Fame
The Pro Football Hall of Fame announced that longtime play-by-play announced Brent Musburger has won the 2025 Pete Rozelle Radio-Television Award. Musburger will receive his award during the 2025 Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Week, which includes the Enshrinees' Gold Jacket Dinner on Friday, Aug. 1, and the Class of 2025 enshrinement on Saturday, Aug. 2. 'The Pete Rozelle Radio-Television Award recognizes broadcast excellence in pro football, and Brent Musburger certainly measures up to that standard,' Jim Porter, president and CEO of the Hall of Fame, said. 'Brent has entertained and informed generations of fans – across not only pro football but college football, basketball, Little League baseball, golf, tennis and other sports – with insights and some signature phrases that became a trademarked style.' CBS Sports hired Musburger in 1973 as a play-by-play voice. He took over as host of 'The NFL Today' in 1975 and held that role until 1990. With Musburger at the helm, the pregame show began an 18-year run as the highest-rated program in its time slot that didn't end until the program ceased in 1994 with pro football's move from CBS to FOX. Former NFL defensive back Irv Cross, winner of the 2009 Pete Rozelle Radio-Television Award, was among Musburger's on-air partners on 'The NFL Today.' Following his departure from CBS in 1990, Musburger joined ABC Sports and stayed with the network family for 27 years. His broadcast credits there included college football and basketball, World Cup soccer and a stint as a halftime reporter for 'Monday Night Football.' After a short hiatus from broadcasting, he returned to the booth as the radio play-by-play voice of the Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders for three seasons (2019-21). He also launched his current venture, Vegas Stats & Information Network (VSiN), the first multichannel network dedicated to sports gaming information, where he remains active. Musburger is a member of the Medill Hall of Achievement at Northwestern University. While still in college, he joined the staff of the Chicago American newspaper as a sports writer. His broadcasting career started shortly thereafter, when he joined WBBM Radio in Chicago as sports director. He later was named sports director for WBBM-TV before moving to Los Angeles to co-anchor the nightly news for KNXT-TV. Musburger's 50-year on-air career includes broadcasts of several NCAA men's national basketball tournaments — he is credited with coining the phrase 'March Madness' — Indianapolis 500 races, U.S. Open and British Open golf tournaments, Little League World Series games, Triple Crown horse races and NASCAR events.

Famed broadcaster says he's picking Chiefs to win Super Bowl because of Taylor Swift
Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Andy Reid, top defense, back-to-back championships. None of that matters, according to Brent Musburger. The Kansas City Chiefs are aiming to become the first team to win three consecutive Super Bowl titles, and Musburger said he believed Taylor Swift, the girlfriend of the star tight end Kelce, is a primary reason why. "I don't look at stats and things like that. I look for offbeat stories to pick my winners," Musburger boldly quipped on "What the Football" this week. Trends are trends, and Musburger may just be picking the best trend of all. "Taylor Swift has attended nine Chiefs games in Kansas City, all in Kansas City this year, and they are 9-0. And if you go back to last year, I believe the winning streak with Taylor Swift in attendance is around 13 or 14 … and that's one of the reasons," he said. The other reason also has nothing to do with the Chiefs but partially with their opponent, the Philadelphia Eagles, in an odd sense. Musburger added that another reason the Chiefs will win the Lombardi Trophy again is because no team to make the playoffs has ever won the Super Bowl after losing a regular season game to Kirk Cousins. The "Curse of Cousins" has taken down 14 teams since Cousins joined the league in 2012, and the Eagles, who lost to Cousins' Atlanta Falcons in Week 2, are next on the list. Cousins faced the Chiefs this season, but the Chiefs earned a 22-17 win. No, Swift was not in attendance, but imagine Musburger's potential confusion if the Falcons pulled off that upset. Last year, Swift attended the Super Bowl in the middle of her Eras Tour, leaving a show in Tokyo to head to Las Vegas. Now that the tour is over, this year's commute will be much easier. So, Musburger may be on to something. Follow Fox News Digital's sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.
