Dasara elephants receive grand welcome at Palace
1 2 Mysuru: The first batch of nine Dasara elephants, led by the majestic howdah elephant Abhimanyu, was accorded a grand welcome by district minister HC Mahadevappa at the Jayamarthanda Gate of Mysuru Palace on Sunday. To mark the occasion, the palace illumination began at 6.50pm— ten minutes earlier than the usual 7pm schedule—casting a golden glow over the celebrations. The elephants, which were housed at Aranya Bhavan since Aug 4 after the ceremonial Gajapayana at Veeranahosahalli, began their journey at 3.30 pm. They reached the palace premises by 5.30 pm, but awaited the formal entry until 6.45 pm, when they received a traditional welcome. Quashing opposition claims, minister Mahadevappa said, "Not only this Dasara, but the next three Dasara editions will be inaugurated by CM Siddaramaiah ." He announced that over Rs 45 crore will be spent this year—up from Rs 40 crore last year—to ensure a more spectacular celebration. Online ticket sales will begin three to four weeks in advance, and the palace will remain illuminated for 21 days. CESC has been instructed to enhance the grandeur of the lighting, he said. Amid the celebrations, a gaffe by the Mysuru Palace Board amused visitors. A large welcome banner displayed photos of elephants Gopi, Rohith, and Varalakshmi—none of whom were part of Sunday's procession—while omitting actual participants Kaveri, Mahendra, and Prashantha. This year's Dasara to convey Mahatma Gandhi's message
This year's Dasara festivities will convey the message of Mahatma Gandhi as the grand finale of festivities — Vijayadashami procession — is scheduled to coincide with Gandhi Jayanti, Minister in charge of Mysuru district, H.C. Mahadevappa, has said. Speaking to reporters here on Sunday, he said the selection of the chief guest to inaugurate the Dasara festivities atop Chamundi Hills on September 22 has been left to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. 'Ultimately, the Chief Minister will decide who inaugurates the festival,' he said. Dr. Mahadevappa, who presided over a meeting of the Dasara Executive Committee at the Mysuru Palace Board on Sunday, reviewed the preparations for the festivities and released the poster of 'Nada Habba Dasara 2025' on the occasion. Later, he told reporters that the Dasara illumination across Mysuru, which is expected to be more innovative and attractive this year, would be held for a total of 21 days as usual. While reviewing the arrangements and preparations for the Dasara festival, Dr. Mahadevappa said instructions had been issued to the officials to ensure that online purchase of tickets for the Dasara festival should be enabled three to four weeks in advance. Also, he said the price for the Dasara drone show, which was well received by the public last year, had been priced at ₹3,000 this year and added that an air show would also be held this year. The Dasara Executive Committee meeting was also attended by Minister for Animal Husbandry K. Venkatesh; Tanveer Sait, G.T. Deve Gowda, T.S. Srivatsa and Ramesh Bandisidde Gowda, MLAs; D. BJP MLC Vishwanath seeks probe into alleged irregularities in Mysuru Palace Board
BJP MLC A. H. Vishwanath has urged the Karnataka government to issue orders declaring that the Mysuru Palace Board is a government institution that falls under the ambit of the Right to Information (RTI) Act of 2005 and order a probe into the complaints of alleged irregularities in the Board. Addressing a press conference in Mysuru on Tuesday, Mr. Vishwanath expressed concern over an officer of the Mysuru Palace Board challenging the Karnataka Information Commission's ruling that the Board fell under the ambit of RTI Act. Despite media reports of large scale mismanagement, illegal activities, and financial misappropriation in the Palace Board, the government has remained silent, he alleged. The BJP MLC said that he intends to raise the issue during the upcoming Dasara High Power Committee meeting scheduled to be held in Bengaluru on Thursday, June 26. Recalling that the State government had enacted the Mysore Palace (Acquisition and Transfer) Act of 1988 and took possession of key portions of the Palace while placing the temples in its premises under the management of the Muzrai Department, Mr. Vishwanath pointed out that the government had constituted an administrative board for the Mysuru Palace with the State Chief Secretary as the Chairman, and the Deputy Commissioner of Mysuru as the Executive Officer. The Board has a total of 113 staff members including the Deputy Director, while officers from departments like police, CESC and public works are also deployed. Even though the government had issued an order to appoint a senior Karnataka Administrative Service (KAS) officer as the Administrative Officer, no such appointment has been made to the Palace Board so far, he said. Even though priceless historical artefacts, weaponry, tools, ornaments, etc., acquired under the Act also came under government custody, the Mysuru Palace Board has been functioning as an 'autonomous or independent' institution instead of a government entity, Mr. Vishwanath said. 'If the Mysuru Palace Board is a government institution, why are its officials denying information sought by the public since the last 13 to 14 years?' he questioned, urging the government to immediately address the matter. Calling for the appointment of a KAS officer without further delay, Mr. Vishwanath said that the Mysuru Palace administration should be removed from the control of a few individuals, ensuring direct action by the government.

Nalwadi was architect of egalitarian society: Mandya DC
Mandya: Deputy commissioner Kumara on Wednesday referred to the Mysuru Maharaja, Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar, as the architect of an egalitarian society and social justice, who envisioned a fair society. The maharaja established the Backward Classes Commission and implemented reservations for the uplift of the backward communities, he stated. Speaking after the inauguration of the Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar Jayanti celebration at the Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar auditorium, he said that the maharaja's contributions are such that future generations will continue to remember him.
