This year's Dasara festivities will convey the message of Mahatma Gandhi as the grand finale of festivities — Vijayadashami procession — is scheduled to coincide with Gandhi Jayanti, Minister in charge of Mysuru district, H.C. Mahadevappa, has said.
Speaking to reporters here on Sunday, he said the selection of the chief guest to inaugurate the Dasara festivities atop Chamundi Hills on September 22 has been left to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
'Ultimately, the Chief Minister will decide who inaugurates the festival,' he said.
Dr. Mahadevappa, who presided over a meeting of the Dasara Executive Committee at the Mysuru Palace Board on Sunday, reviewed the preparations for the festivities and released the poster of 'Nada Habba Dasara 2025' on the occasion.
Later, he told reporters that the Dasara illumination across Mysuru, which is expected to be more innovative and attractive this year, would be held for a total of 21 days as usual.
While reviewing the arrangements and preparations for the Dasara festival, Dr. Mahadevappa said instructions had been issued to the officials to ensure that online purchase of tickets for the Dasara festival should be enabled three to four weeks in advance.
Also, he said the price for the Dasara drone show, which was well received by the public last year, had been priced at ₹3,000 this year and added that an air show would also be held this year.
The Dasara Executive Committee meeting was also attended by Minister for Animal Husbandry K. Venkatesh; Tanveer Sait, G.T. Deve Gowda, T.S. Srivatsa and Ramesh Bandisidde Gowda, MLAs; D. Thimmaiah, MLC; chairman of Karnataka Exhibition Authority Ayub Khan; Deputy Commissioner Lakshmikant Reddy; Mysuru Zilla Panchayat CEO Yukesh Kumar; City Police Commissioner Seema Latkar, and Superintendent of Police, Mysuru, N. Lokesh invokes Gandhian ideals, promises welfare and growth in Andhra Pradesh

'Mahatma Gandhi taught us that the change we wish to see in the world must begin with ourselves,' Minister for Education, IT and Electronics Nara Lokesh said on Friday. Addressing the 79th Independence Day celebrations at the Guntur Police Parade Grounds, Mr. Lokesh urged citizens to draw inspiration from Gandhi's ideals of non-violence, truth and self-reliance. Paying tribute to the sacrifices of Telugu freedom fighters such as Andhra Kesari Prakasam Pantulu, Alluri Sitharama Raju and Pingali Venkayya, he said their legacy must guide the State's governance and development. 'Guntur's role in the freedom struggle is unforgettable,' he noted, announcing plans for a museum in Mangalagiri to commemorate local contributions to India's freedom movement. Mr. Lokesh sharply criticised the previous government, alleging that between 2019 and 2024 Andhra Pradesh had been pushed '30 years backward' due to mounting debt and stalled development. He credited the NDA's 'double engine' government, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, for initiating revival measures. These, he said, include Central funding for Amaravati and Polavaram, protection of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, and the establishment of a railway zone in Visakhapatnam. Highlighting welfare initiatives, the Minister praised the State's 'Super Six' schemes, which have increased pensions, provided support to farmers, supplied free LPG cylinders, and introduced free RTC bus travel for women. He also outlined ambitious employment plans, citing major investments from corporations such as ArcelorMittal, TCS and LG Electronics. On the education front, Mr. Lokesh claimed 'revolutionary reforms' over the past year, including the expansion of model primary schools, an overhaul of the curriculum from KG to PG, removal of political symbols from educational materials, and the restoration of schemes such as free textbooks and midday meals for Intermediate students. The programme saw the participation of all local MLAs, District Collector S. Nagalakshmi, SP S. Satish Kumar and other dignitaries.
