China launches plan to improve TV and mini-dramas amid soft power push
China has called for more mini-dramas , documentaries, animations and foreign programmes to air on television to improve the quality of content. Advertisement The National Radio and Television Administration (NRTA) released a set of measures, made public on Monday, launching a 'content renewal plan' to improve innovation, the management of television series, content censorship and the promotion of programmes. The document stressed that more support would be given to producing quality documentaries and animations, as well as 'outstanding micro and short series to be broadcast on TV' and foreign programmes. It added that efforts should be made to improve the legal framework and copyright protection for these programmes. Mini-dramas and Chinese-produced animations have been taking over the market both domestically and abroad in recent months as authorities seek to expand China's soft power overseas. Advertisement 'Micro-dramas have become a new growth pillar for China's online audio and video industry, with their influence abroad significantly increasing,' said NRTA director Cao Shumin in March at the China Internet Audio and Video Convention.

Love Island and The Traitors go head-to-head in huge awards clash
All the reality shows that have been nominated for this year's annual National Reality TV Awards have been announced and Love Island and The Traitors will be vying for one of the top prizes Two of Britain's biggest reality juggernauts, Love Island and The Traitors, are set for a fierce showdown at this year's National Reality Television Awards (NRTA). The fourteenth annual ceremony for the NRTAs will take place at London's Porchester Hall on July 30. Both Love Island UK (Season 12) and The Traitors UK (Series 3) have landed nominations in the coveted Best Reality Competition Show category, going head-to-head against other audience favourites including Strictly Come Dancing, The Apprentice, Celebrity Big Brother 24, and The Great British Bake Off. The public has the power to decide this year's winner via online voting at until July 26. The NRTA has cemented its reputation as the only awards show where both nominations and final results are entirely determined by the public. The awards show received a record-breaking 2.7 million submissions this year. Organisers say this figure reflects the continuing dominance of reality television across streaming services, broadcast networks, and the booming creator economy. In a nod to the changing landscape, the 2025 NRTA has introduced several new categories celebrating the rise of streamed content and digital creators. Those include Best Streamed Reality Series, Best Platform for Reality Streaming Content, and Best Reality-Based Streamer, which acknowledge the influence of platforms like Twitch, TikTok Live, and YouTube Live on modern entertainment consumption. Meanwhile, the high-profile Celebrity Personality of the Year award is shaping up to be another hotly contested category. Nominees range from reality TV royalty like Rylan Clark (Rob & Rylan's Grand Tour) and Angellica Bell ( Celebrity Big Brother 2025) to household names Amanda Holden and Oti Mabuse. Former I'm a Celebrity winner Danny Jones is also in the running. The NRTAs have also seen nominations for docu-series such as Louis Theroux: The Settlers, lifestyle hits like A Place in the Sun, and dating favourites including Married at First Sight UK and Virgin Island. Podcasts are also getting their time to shine, with Steven Bartlett's The Diary of a CEO and Mo Gilligan's Beginning, Middle & End among those vying for Best Podcast 2025. Motorists urged to reclaim vehicles from Ekurhuleni pound before auction
The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department is appealing to motorists who have had their vehicles impounded to come forward and reclaim them before they are auctioned off. From May 15 to June 16, 2025, the EMPD will be available to assist owners in claiming their vehicles from the pound. The collection hours are set from 8am to 4pm, Monday to Friday. The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) is urging vehicle owners who have had their vehicles impounded to act swiftly, as they have a limited window to reclaim their property. Those who do not reclaim their vehicles within the specified dates risk losing them permanently, as unclaimed vehicles will be put up for public auction. This action falls in accordance with Regulation 320(4) of the National Traffic Act (NRTA) 93 of 1996, which stipulates how proceeds from such auctions are to be managed," the EMPD said. In a public statement, an EMPD spokesperson noted, 'We understand that many people rely heavily on their vehicles for daily commuting and work purposes. We urge all owners to come forward and reclaim their vehicles to avoid the unfortunate situation of losing them at auction.'
