Indian Army Soldiers, Families Will Not Have To Pay House Tax In This UP Area From Now

Last Updated: Lakhimpur Nagar Palika has waived house tax for families of serving and retired soldiers as a mark of respect for their service and sacrifice to the nation In a landmark move, the Lakhimpur Nagar Palika in Uttar Pradesh has announced a complete exemption from house tax for families of Indian Army soldiers, both serving and retired. This historic decision was taken in the wake of the Indian Army's resolute response to the April 22 terrorist attack in J&K's Pahalgam. The move reflects not only the town's gratitude but also a broader national sentiment of respect for the selfless service of the armed forces. Nagar Palika President Dr Ira Srivastava, announcing the decision, stated that the exemption would apply to all soldiers posted along India's borders and would extend to their families residing within the municipality. Importantly, this tax relief is not limited to currently serving personnel; it also includes the families of retired soldiers, in recognition of their lifelong service. 'The brave men and women of our armed forces stand vigilant on the front lines in the harshest of conditions, so the rest of us may live in peace," said Dr Srivastava. 'Waiving the house tax is but a small token of our collective gratitude. It is a gesture of respect and appreciation for their courage, commitment, and sacrifice." The Nagar Palika has also committed to ensuring that the areas where these families reside are provided with all essential civic amenities. Dr Srivastava reaffirmed that the local administration stands in solidarity with the Indian Army and its veterans, and will continue to support their welfare in every possible way. A similar move was recently announced in Andhra Pradesh where the government initiated full property tax exemption for houses owned by Indian defence personnel within gram panchayat limits. 'From now on, all active personnel of the Indian defence forces, regardless of where they are posted, will be eligible for this benefit," deputy chief minister Pawan Kalyan had said, adding that the exemption would apply to one house where the soldier or their spouse resides or jointly owns. Hindu groups protest against minor girl's rape in Uttarakhand's Nainital

DEHRADUN: Hindu groups took to the streets in massive protest raising slogans against the alleged rape of a minor girl in Uttarakhand's Nainital district Tensions remain high in the area despite the arrest of the accused, Osman. The protest march began from Mallital and culminated in a rally in front of the Nagar Palika. The protesters clashed with police during the demonstration. Despite efforts by the police to barricade the route, the protesters managed to break through and proceeded towards the High Court. Nainiatal police have registered a case based on a report filed by the mother of a minor girl regarding her alleged rape. According to the mother's complaint, contractor Usman allegedly "lured her to his home by offering two hundred rupees", where he raped the girl in a car parked in the garage. When the girl resisted, he reportedly "showed a knife and tied a cloth over her mouth." The complaint further alleges that Usman threatened to "eliminate the entire family" if the incident was reported.

Demolition notice to rape accused added to communal tension in Nainital: Uttarakhand HC

Instead of dousing the flames, such notices only add fuel to a fire, the court observed. A bench of Chief Justice G Narendar and Justice Ravindra Maithani observed that serving such notices has only aggravated the situation. Nainital (U'khand), May 2 (PTI) The Uttarakhand High Court pulled up the local municipal authorities here on Friday for issuing notices for the demolition of the residence of an elderly man from the minority community accused in the alleged rape of a minor. The matter was mentioned in the court on behalf of the rape accused's wife, describing the demolition notices as instances of 'bulldozer justice' that went against the orders of the Supreme Court. The petitioner's lawyer also complained before the court against harassment for filing a case in favour of the accused. The Nagar Palika, Nainital tendered an unconditional apology before the court for issuing such notices to 62 people, including the accused, and said those will be withdrawn. The matter will now be heard on Tuesday. The court said the Nagar Palika executive officer's action amounted to contempt of an order of the Supreme Court. It also said that police should not be pushed to their limits. Quoting the wife of a naval officer killed in the recent Pahalgam terror attack, who has said anger should not be vented on Muslims or Kashmiris in reaction to the incident, the court said the citizens of Nainital must follow her example. They should not vent their anger on the community or the accused, it said. Nainital's Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Prahlad Meena joined the hearing via video-conferencing, while both the executive officers of the Nagar Palika appeared in the court in person. The alleged rape of the 12-year-old girl by the 75-year-old accused, Osman, sparked communal tension in the town on Wednesday, with Hindu outfits taking to the streets and vandalising shops owned by members of the minority community. The protesters raised anti-Pakistan slogans and damaged vehicles parked outside the shops. They also hurled stones towards a mosque. The situation was brought partially under control with the arrest of the accused but tension persists in the town, with a massive police deployment to prevent further escalation. The high court also asked how so much damage could be inflicted during communal tension in an area that was so close to the Kotwali. On angry lawyers trying to assault the accused as he was being taken to a court dealing with cases lodged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in Haldwani on Thursday, the bench also asked why the area was not cordoned off in anticipation.
