National Western Center to begin expansion on equestrian center, hotel

DENVER (KDVR) — The National Western Center has planned on building an equestrian center, hotel and more on its campus in Denver, and now, construction is set to start soon. On Monday, Denver announced that the city council approved the launch of the project, committing more than $800 million over the next 35 years, according to the Denver Business Journal. This marks the final step to completing the initial phases of the 2015 voter-approved master plan to expand the campus. Hundreds brave snow as livestock parade through Denver for National Western Stock Show Right now, the campus is known for hosting the historic National Western Stock Show every January, however, the plan is to expand capacity for year-round programming with a new 4,500-seat equestrian center, a 160-room hotel, income-restricted workforce housing and a parking garage. Here's what it is planning to look like: 'There is no more cherished tradition in Denver than the Stock Show,' said Mayor Mike Johnston in a press release. 'Today, we are further committing to carrying that feeling throughout the rest of the year with events, entertainment, and a renewed dedication to putting people to work and improving the lives of neighbors through sustained – and lasting – trust and partnership.' New CSU campus at National Western Complex stacked with variety The mayor's office said that based on a recent economic impact study, the center and CSU Spur campus could bring in nearly $3 billion in gross domestic product for Colorado along with $2.1 billion in personal income and support more than 11,000 jobs over a five-year period. The project will begin soon in the Elyria Swansea neighborhood. The mayor's office said the equestrian center is set to begin in the fall. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Extraco Events Center welcomes new president and CEO

Waco, TX (FOX 44) – The Extraco Events Center is welcoming its new president and CEO! Wes Allison previously served as president and CEO for approximately 22 years. He now passes the torch to Dustin Coufal. Growing up in Troy, Coufal said it's a dream come true for a small-town boy like him to become the president and CEO of a huge corporation. 'My history is a little more unique,' Coufal said. 'I was a cast scramble participant, also had the opportunity to serve in a capacity where I was able to evaluate the halls at the Heart of Texas Fair and Rodeo, and served as a sheep superintendent.' Coufal has been a key figure at the Extraco Events Center. His promotion to general manager was part of a strategic reorganization in 2021 aimed at positioning the company for future growth. He says their goal is to continue on the foundation they have built. 'This is a really good ship that's doing a lot of great things with economic impact, over 70 million, over 350,000 in scholarships,' Coufal said. 'I'll be honest with you, we're going to continue on that and we're going to increase those numbers, and just make a bigger impact in Central Texas.' Allison is moving on to work for the National Western Stock Show in Denver, Colorado. Upon passing the torch to his successor, he said Coufal will bring great success to the Extraco Events Center and be a true leader. 'The board did a great job of vetting him and making sure he was ready for the program,' Allison said. 'Really intensely for probably the last three to five years, we have been working together very closely to ensure that he was ready when this opportunity came on. I'm so excited for Dustin.' Coufal is excited and grateful for this new honor and the start of a new era at the Events Center. 'It's truly an honor and a blessing to be able to step into the fall of Wes's legacy and lead such a great organization,' Coufal said. 'It means so much to the folks of Central Texas.' Despite all the changes, the Center's mission remains the same – delivering quality entertainment and agricultural experiences to the community. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. National Western Stock Show: 98 junior livestock champions fetch record-breaking amount

DENVER (KDVR) — It's time to take down those holiday lights and buckle in for a long year until the 120th National Western Stock Show, as the 2025 event marketed as the 'best 16 days in January' came to a close. Organizers said this year drew over 658,109 visitors during the two-week-and-two-day stint, with fans donning their best Western regalia for the traditional events. The participation places 2025 among the top 10 stock shows for attendance in history. Bull rider injured at National Western Stock Show rodeo event The stock show set its record attendance numbers in 2006 for the 100th anniversary — 726,973 people attended that year. This year's attendance numbers had to compete with the frigid cold — 91 hours straight of this year's stock show were held while the temperature remained below freezing. 'Every guest that walks through our gates is part of the Stock Show family, and we are incredibly thankful for their support,' said Paul Andrews, President and CEO of the National Western Stock Show, in the Sunday afternoon release. The NWSS highlighted its Auction of Junior Livestock Champions which had 98 animals that fetched a 'record-breaking $1,452,500 — the highest total in stock show history.' The funds go to the National Western Scholarship Trust, which gives scholarships to students pursuing agriculture and rural medicine careers. The Coors Western Art Exhibit and Sale also gives its process to the trust, which broke records with $1.4 million in sales to date, the stock show shared. 'Thanks to these events and the incredible generosity of our supporters, we're able to fund 120 scholarships annually, ranging from $2,500 to $15,000 per student,' Andrews said in the stock show release. 'These scholarships represent an investment in the future of agriculture, helping students pursue their dreams and make meaningful contributions to their communities.'While this year's stock show is over, it's time to save the date for next year's: The National Western Stock Show is set to return to Denver on Jan. 10-25, 2026.
