Taylor Swift tears up telling story of how she got her masters back
For a decade, Taylor Swift refused to believe she'd own her music catalog again. When the impossible happened, she was "bawling my eyes out." Speaking to boyfriend Travis Kelce and his brother Jason Kelce on a "New Heights" podcast episode that very aptly dropped Aug. 13, Swift choked up multiple times while telling the story. As Swift grew emotional, she explained, "I don't ever really talk about it." "I haven't gotten my hopes up about this in a decade," she explained. It was a couple of months after the Super Bowl when she got a call from her mom that delivered the good news: "You got your music." Swift struggled to say this as she teared up once again. "I very dramatically hit the floor, for real. Bawling my eyes out," she told the Kelces. Taylor Swift's mom Andrea and brother Austin helped bring her masters home "After the Eras Tour, I had a meeting with my team, and we decided this might be a good time to approach the current owners of (her masters)," Swift said. "The owners of it was a private equity firm called Shamrock Capital. I knew them to be aboveboard people; they had been very friendly to us," she continued. "What I was looking to do, though, was I wanted to buy my music outright. I don't want to be in a partnership; I don't want to own 30% of it. I want to own all of it. But it was a long shot to think they would do that." She chose to make this a personal matter rather than a business decision. "I'm in the business of human emotion. I would so much rather lead heart-first in something like this. Because for me, this is not 'I want to own this asset because of its returns,'" Swift explained. "Everything that I've ever done is in this catalogue." "Rather than send lawyers or management and a big crew," she instead flew out her mom Andrea and brother Austin, as her emissaries of sorts to potentially broker the deal in Los Angeles. "They told them the whole story of all the times we've tried to buy it, all the times it's fallen through. All the times we had gotten plans together and figured out something we thought was going to work and it didn't last minute," Swift said. And it worked. Travis Kelce also cried over Taylor Swift's music catalog news "Nothing New" collaborator Phoebe Bridgers was one of the first to hear the news, Swift said, reenacting the barely coherent, weepy phone call. She explained that Travis was playing video games when she knocked on the door to tell him she got all her music back. "I was so happy you were there when that happened. Because I couldn't stand," Swift told Travis. "I mean, I started crying too. You know I'm a crier," he said. Holding her hand, he said, "I was blown away that you had been doing this your entire life." Contributing: Bryan West, USA TODAY Network

'It wasn't a bird': Mysterious object strikes US Air Force's $70 million F-16 mid-air. Here's wat the Pentagon knows
In a bizarre incident reported by Fox News, a U.S. Air Force F-16 Viper fighter jet was allegedly struck by an unidentified flying object (UFO) during a training exercise over Gila Bend, Arizona, in January 2023. The aircraft's instructor pilot, seated in the rear, first spotted the mysterious object before it hit the jet's clear canopy. Despite the impact, the $70 million aircraft sustained no visible damage, and officials initially ruled out a bird strike. Eventually, authorities concluded the jet had been hit by a drone. However, the drone's origin and operator remain unknown. The incident was just the beginning. FAA documents obtained by The War Zone revealed that it was the first of four reported encounters with unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAPs) in that region within a day. These events add to the growing number of UAP incidents documented by the U.S. Department of Defense. 757 UAP Incidents in a Year According to an unclassified report from the All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO), 757 UAP encounters occurred between May 1, 2023, and June 1, 2024. Of these, 708 took place in the air, with only 49 cases officially closed. Notably, 18 of these incidents were reported near sensitive nuclear sites, missile launch facilities, or strategic weapons locations. The report stated that none of the resolved cases indicated advanced technology from foreign adversaries or breakthrough aerospace developments. Live Events 'Nothing New' James Fox, a filmmaker and long-time UFO researcher, weighed in, telling Fox News Digital that he wasn't surprised by the F-16 incident. According to Fox, U.S. military personnel have reported seeing craft loitering over the East Coast with no visible propulsion systems — some dating back nearly a century. 'There are documented sightings from the 1930s and 1940s,' Fox said, describing glowing orb-like objects that outmaneuvered World War II aircraft. He added that some of these crafts exhibit capabilities like remaining stationary in high winds and emitting no heat signature. Fox believes either humanity has been tracking the same unknown intelligence since the 1940s, or someone has successfully replicated and reverse-engineered such technology. A Task Force for the Unknown In 2020, the U.S. Department of Defense launched the Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force (UAPTF) to study these sightings and assess their potential threats to national security. Fox noted that enhanced radar systems have contributed to the recent surge in reports by detecting smaller objects that previously went unnoticed.

‘The Buccaneers' Season 2 Soundtrack: From Griff To Sabrina Carpenter
With its first season Apple TV+'s The Buccaneers made a name for itself with its focus on all women musicians featured in the show's soundtrack, with needle drops like Taylor Swift's 'Nothing New,' Japanese Breakfast's 'Be Sweet,' Brandi Carlile's 'Broken Horses' and Bikini Kill's 'Rebel Girl' featured in the first season, to name a few. Swift's 'Nothing New' was used in the scene where Nan St. George (Kristine Frøseth) and her friends made their society debut, similar to the procession of Netflix's Bridgerton in white dresses and feathers. Later on in the first season, songs like 'Kissing Lessons' by Lucy Dacus, 'Cedar' by Gracie Abrams,' 'Bite the Hand' by boygenius, 'Want Want' by Maggie Rogers' and another Taylor Swift anthem, 'Long Live' highlighted the high stakes of Nan's decisions. Season 2 continues in the vein of mostly women artsits featured on the soundtrack. It also features Chloé Caillet's remix of 'North American Scum' by the Emily Kokal featuring Miya Folick. Jennifer Smuckler and Christina Azarian serve as music leads on the show, and Stella Mozgawa worked as executive music producer, collaborating with artists for certain songs featured in later episodes. Miyu Backs Bittersweet Coming-of-Age Tale ‘We Are Aliens' From Music Video Maestro Kohei Kadowaki (EXCLUSIVE)
French animation powerhouse Miyu Productions has teamed with Tokyo-based upstart Nothing New to co-produce 'We Are Aliens,' a coming-of-age tale now in development, and slated for completion by March 2026. The project marks the first animated feature from 28-year-old director Kohei Kadowaki, best known for his visually striking music videos for chart-topping acts like Yoasobi and for his experimental blend of live-action and animation. More from Variety 'Odd Taxi's' Baku Kinoshita on His Melancholic Feature Debut 'The Last Blossom,' Premiering in Annecy Sentient Acorns, Badass Grandmas and Underwater Knights Feature Among MIFA's 2025 Feature Pitches Key Latin America Animation Titles to Come Under the Spotlight at Annecy-MIFA's La Liga Focus 'We Are Aliens' tells the story of two boys, Tsubasa and Gyotaro. Tsubasa is quiet and serious, while Gyotaro is a cheerful genius. As kids, they were close friends, but jealousy and misunderstandings drove them apart. Years later, their lives have gone in different directions—but when memories from the past come back, both must face what happened between them. 'This film turns the spotlight on the half of adolescence anime rarely touches,' says director Kohei Kadowaki, promising a bittersweet film redolent in both pain and joy. 'Through children's quarrels and first loves—small events in a small place—the film poses universal questions: What does it mean to grow old? What is happiness? By affirming the Tsubasa and Gyotaro that dwell in every heart, it aims to become a story cherished across time and borders.' 'We are constantly seeking bold, singular voices in animation,' add Miyu producers Emmanuel-Alain Raynal and Pierre Baussaron. 'From the moment we saw the first images of 'We Are Aliens,' we were convinced of the strength of the project—and that we were witnessing the emergence of a major new voice in global animation.' Miyu Productions previously collaborated with Tokyo-based Shin-Ei Animation on 'Ghost Cat Anzu,' which premiered out of Directors' Fortnight at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. Miyu's new partnership with Nothing New was born of that same trip down the Croisette, where the two companies connected over a shared commitment to ambitious, director-driven animation. 'We met our like-minded partners during the 2024 Cannes Film Festival and have since held detailed discussions,' says Nothing New producer Kentaro Hayashi. 'It is an honor to announce our collaboration at this juncture, and we will continue working together to deliver this film to the widest possible audience. [Director] Kohei combines breathtaking visuals with delicate storytelling. With his distinctive style—unlike anything in Japanese animation to date—we intend to set a new benchmark for coming-of-age cinema.'
