Patrick Mahomes had doubts about Travis Kelce's romance with Taylor Swift at first
Patrick Mahomes was doubtful when Kansas City Chiefs team-mate Travis Kelce told him he was dating Taylor Swift. The Chiefs quarterback revealed that his friend Kelce had told him about the pair's relationship but explained that it was only when the pop star attended her first NFL game in September 2023 that he realised that the romance was genuine. Speaking in the ESPN docuseries The Kingdom, Mahomes said: "He told me during the week. It was one of those where I gotta see it until I believe it." Travis and Taylor's relationship was confirmed when the Blank Space singer attended the Chiefs' Arrowhead Stadium for the NFL clash against the Chicago Bears and Mahomes admits that her presence at the game generated a "buzz". The 29-year-old sports star said: "You definitely felt the buzz and you could see people in the stadium gravitating towards where she was up there. At the same time, we had business to handle." Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones was astonished when the team discovered Taylor's relationship with Kelce. He recalled in the documentary: "We were in the locker room like, 'Taylor Swift's here. Taylor Swift? For real? With Travis? Oh my God!' "We were like, 'Oh my God Travis pulled Taylor Swift.'" Taylor recently compared Travis wooing her to being a John Hughes movie as she opened up about how the pair's romance came about. The 35-year-old singer said in a revealing interview on her boyfriend and his brother Jason Kelce's New Heights podcast: "This dude didn't get a meet and greet and he's making it everyone's problem. "That's what I thought at first... You realise he didn't even reach out to our management. He came with Pat [Mahomes] and he thought that because he knows the elevator lady, that he could talk to her about just getting down to my dressing room." She continued: "It felt more like I was in an '80s John Hughes movie, and he was standing outside of my window with a boombox saying, 'I want to date you! Do you want to go on a date with me? I made you a friendship bracelet! Do you want to date me?" The Cardigan singer acknowledged that Travis, 35, turned out to be the guy she'd been manifesting in her songs. She smiled: "I was like, 'If this guy's not crazy, this is sort of what I've been writing songs about wanting to happen to me since I was a teenager.'"

Fans think Taylor Swift's new song 'Ruin the Friendship' is about Blake Lively
Swift and Lively's relationship has been under scrutiny since the "It Ends With Us" actress' legal battle with costar and director Justin Baldoni. Another Taylor Swift era, another round of pre-release speculation about who her new songs could be about. When the pop icon announced the tracklist to her upcoming 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, on the New Heights podcast Wednesday, Swifties immediately did what they do best and started parsing through each song title for possible meaning. One in particular caught their eye: "Ruin the Friendship." Fans immediately hit social media with their theories that the song, which is the sixth track on the album, could be about longtime Swift pal Blake Lively and the status of their friendship. To recap, Lively's ongoing and very public legal battle with her It Ends With Us costar and director Justin Baldoni began in December 2024. The pair took legal action against each other, with Lively accusing Baldoni of sexual harassment and launching a smear campaign, and Baldoni launching a countersuit, alleging defamation and extortion. Since then, Swift and Lively's relationship has been under scrutiny. The Grammy winner got pulled into the mix when a complaint filed by Baldoni's legal team (which was later dismissed) alleged that she had pressured him to accept Lively's script changes on the movie, which Lively's team called "categorically false." Baldoni's countersuit included text messages between Lively and Baldoni, in which the actress seemingly alludes to Swift as "one of her dragons" while likening herself to Game of Thrones' Khaleesi (Emilia Clarke). Then, in May 2025, matters reached a fever pitch when Baldoni's team attempted to subpoena Swift, which prompted a rep for the pop star to slam the maneuver as a scheme to generate "tabloid clickbait." "Taylor Swift never set foot on the set of this movie, she was not involved in any casting or creative decisions, she did not score the film, she never saw an edit or made any notes on the film, she did not even see It Ends With Us until weeks after its public release, and was traveling around the globe during 2023 and 2024 headlining the biggest tour in history," a spokesperson for Swift told Entertainment Weekly at the time. For their part, Swift and Lively have not publicly commented on how, or if, any of this has affected their friendship, though they haven't been seen in public together in quite some time. And while Swift never reveals who her songs are about, she has been open about how she uses real-life inspirations in her music (after all, Lively and Ryan Reynolds' children have had cameos in or served as character name inspiration in tracks such as "Gorgeous" and "Betty"). A rep for Swift didn't immediately respond to EW's request for comment Thursday, but, the singer herself did provide some possible context on the New Heights podcast Wednesday. In the conversation, which was between Swift, her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, and his brother, Jason, the singer revealed that she (somehow?) found time while she was on her Eras Tour in Europe to record Showgirl. "I just love it a lot. I love music," Swift shared. "I would be playing shows. I'd do, like, three shows in a row. I'd have three days off. I'd fly to Sweden, go back to the tour — and actually, like, working on this – I was physically exhausted at this point in the tour, but I was so mentally stimulated and so excited to be creating." The European leg of Swift's tour took place between May and August of 2024, so if the album was written and recorded in its entirety during that time, it likely couldn't be about Lively, given that the It Ends With Us drama began in earnest in December of that year. But, until Swift or Lively provide more insight, fans are just going to have to wait til The Life of a Showgirl releases on Oct. 3 to find out just who or what the song could be about. Denzel Washington reveals 2 reasons it was time for a Spike Lee reunion
There's been a mix-up. HIGHEST 2 LOWEST in select theaters tomorrow, streaming September 5 on Apple TV+ It has been 19 years since actor Denzel Washington and director Spike Lee had collaborated on Inside Man in 2006. The heist thriller was the fourth project the duo worked on together -- He Got Game (1998), Malcolm X (1992) and Mo' Better Blues (1990) being the others -- and Lee was one of the handful of directors that the Oscar-winner had worked with multiple times. With Highest 2 Lowest debuting in theaters this week, the pair has reunited for a fifth time. The thrilling drama, which also stars Jeffrey Wright, Ilfenesh Hadera, A$AP Rocky, Wendell Pierce and Aubrey Joseph, is a reimagining of the Akira Kurosawa classic High And Low (1963). Record label guru David King (Washington) must weigh his personal and professional morals as he internally battles with what to do after the son of his driver (Wright) gets mistakenly taken in a botched kidnapping where King's son was the actual target. Should he still pay the ransom? What responsibility does he have in this situation? For Washington, now was the right time to reconnect with Lee for two reasons. "It was a New York script, New York story," Washington told For The Win in a recent interview. "The script came to me before Spike [Lee]. He's a New York guy. I'm a New York guy." The second reason was very simple. "Trust," Washington stated before referring to the two other directors he has also worked with a career-high five times. "I trust Antoine Fuqua. I trust Spike and obviously, Tony Scott, God rest his soul." New York City was very much at the soul of this movie, taking place predominantly in the Bronx and Brooklyn. Sweeping establishing shots show Lee's undying love for The City That Never Sleeps. There are multiple Yankee Stadium references and Yankee fans (shoutout to Nicholas Turturro), and the great pianist and Latin musician Eddie Palmieri -- who sadly passed last week -- and his Salsa Orchestra are prominently featured. "It was such a no-brainer for me to call Spike, because it's a New York story. And needless to say, I think he kind of likes New York," Washington added with a laugh. "If the story took place in Kansas City, I might have called somebody else." Despite a slow start, which the story almost necessitates with all the build up, Highest 2 Lowest thrives when the audience gets to see Washington do what he does best. He has been doing this since 1977, and it is truly still a delight just to be able to watch him on screen. Paired with Wright -- and a really fantastic A$AP Rocky -- it's a recipe for success. Highest 2 Lowest, an A24 and Apple Original Films production, is in theaters on August 15.
