Teen boy shot dead and 3 people injured in Philippi East, motive unclear

A 16-year-old boy was shot dead and three people were wounded at a wendy house in Lower Crossroads, Philippi East, on Tuesday afternoon. Western Cape police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, said they were among eight teenagers socialising and drinking in a structure in Block 9 when a man entered and opened fire. 'The 16-year-old died due to injuries sustained, and three others were taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds,' Van Wyk added. The motive for the attack is still under investigation. Philippi East police are investigating a murder and three counts of attempted murder. This comes just a month after three schoolchildren were gunned down in separate shootings in nearby Samora Machel. All three were wearing their school uniforms at the time. No arrests have been made. Nyanga Community Policing Forum member Dumisani Qwebe condemned violence against teenagers. 'This shows the deep challenges we face in our communities. If young people who haven't even begun contributing to society are massacred like this, what kind of future can we expect?' Qwebe urged residents to share any information with police via the following anonymous channels: Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or the My SAPS app.

Three people shot dead after hijacking delivery van in Cape Town

Three people who hijacked a delivery vehicle in Browns Farm, Philippi, on Thursday, were gunned down moments later at an intersection. According to Western Cape police spokesperson, Colonel Andrè Traut, the three people attacked two men at gunpoint before forcing them into the back of the delivery vehicle they had been driving, and speeding off. 'As the vehicle approached the intersection of Sheffield and Monwood Roads, it came under gunfire from unknown assailants. The shooting resulted in the deaths of three of the alleged hijackers. Their identities and ages are yet to be confirmed,' said Traut. Traut said detectives attached to the Provincial Serious and Violent Crime Unit were following all leads in connection with the triple murder. The Nyanga Community Policing Forum was approached for comment, which will be added once received. Anyone with information that could assist the investigation can contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
