Mortal Kombat 2 Teases Epic Showdown with Shao Kahn and Johnny Cage
The highly anticipated sequel Mortal Kombat 2 is set to hit theaters on October 24, 2025, and new stills offer a first look at some of the film's major characters. Entertainment Weekly has shared exclusive images showcasing Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, Martyn Ford as Shao Kahn, Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, and Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion. Director Simon McQuoid has confirmed that the sequel will finally bring the Mortal Kombat tournament to the big screen, with high stakes for Earthrealm. If Earth loses its 10th consecutive match against Outworld, the fearsome Shao Kahn will invade and conquer the planet. Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon teased that fans will be "keeping score throughout the movie," as the tournament will have visual representations of wins and losses, adding a new layer of tension to the action-packed story. Urban's portrayal of Johnny Cage is expected to bring a fresh dynamic, balancing humor with depth. Boon stated, "His depiction is different from the games, but it will feel fresh." Returning cast members include Josh Lawson as Kano, Max Huang as Kung Lao, and Damon Herriman as Quan Chi. While Scorpion and Sub-Zero's rivalry will continue, it will take a backseat to the tournament storyline. With brutal fights, classic characters, and high stakes, Mortal Kombat 2 is shaping up to be an epic sequel that fans won't want to miss.
