The highly anticipated sequel Mortal Kombat 2 is set to hit theaters on October 24, 2025, and new stills offer a first look at some of the film's major characters.
Entertainment Weekly has shared exclusive images showcasing Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, Martyn Ford as Shao Kahn, Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, and Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion.
Director Simon McQuoid has confirmed that the sequel will finally bring the Mortal Kombat tournament to the big screen, with high stakes for Earthrealm. If Earth loses its 10th consecutive match against Outworld, the fearsome Shao Kahn will invade and conquer the planet.
Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon teased that fans will be "keeping score throughout the movie," as the tournament will have visual representations of wins and losses, adding a new layer of tension to the action-packed story.
Urban's portrayal of Johnny Cage is expected to bring a fresh dynamic, balancing humor with depth. Boon stated, "His depiction is different from the games, but it will feel fresh."
Returning cast members include Josh Lawson as Kano, Max Huang as Kung Lao, and Damon Herriman as Quan Chi. While Scorpion and Sub-Zero's rivalry will continue, it will take a backseat to the tournament storyline.
With brutal fights, classic characters, and high stakes, Mortal Kombat 2 is shaping up to be an epic sequel that fans won't want to miss.

Antony Starr reacts to fans glorifying Homelander in The Boys, calls it 'surreal'

Antony Starr, who portrays the supervillain Homelander in The Boys, recently expressed surprise at how some fans glorify the character, calling the reaction 'surreal.' Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Starr revealed he and the cast had to push back on social media after noticing that fans were idolizing the ultra-violent and authoritarian supe. 'We had a bunch of guys that we all kind of knocked down a little bit on social media to say, 'This guy is not the hero of any story.' They were really glorifying him — they loved him, which was surreal,' he said. Starr admitted he didn't expect fans to feel conflicted about the character, adding, 'What I didn't expect was that people would be so conflicted around it and, you know, finding themselves feeling empathy for this monster.' His remarks echo those of The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke, who addressed similar reactions ahead of Season 4. Kripke responded to claims the show had become 'woke' and fans viewing Homelander as a hero. 'Anyone who wants to call the show 'woke' or whatever, that's OK. Go watch something else,' Kripke said. 'The show's many things. Subtle isn't one of them. So if that's the message you're getting from it, I just throw up my hands.' Kripke also confirmed that Homelander was designed as a metaphor for authoritarian figures, notably former U.S. President Donald Trump. 'Suddenly, we were telling a story about the intersection of celebrity and authoritarianism and how social media and entertainment are used to sell fascism.' The Boys is currently filming its fifth and final season, which will wrap up the Prime Video hit series.

Where IT all began: HBO Max drops official teaser for 'IT' prequel series 'Welcome to Derry'

HBO Max has unveiled the first teaser trailer for Welcome to Derry, an upcoming horror series that serves as a prequel to the hit IT films. Set in the 1960s, the show explores the dark origins of the terrifying entity known as Pennywise the Clown, with Bill Skarsgård reprising his acclaimed role. The series is set 27 years before the events of the IT movies, adapted from Stephen King's classic novel, and delves into one of the creature's previous killing sprees in the haunted town of Derry, Maine. Directed by Andy Muschietti, who also helmed the two IT films, Welcome to Derry expands on the mythology of King's universe. According to Muschietti and co-executive producer Barbara Muschietti, the story is inspired by the book's 'interludes'—accounts compiled by Mike Hanlon based on interviews with Derry's older residents. 'It's so rich with characters and events, we thought we would do justice to the book and the fans by going back into this world,' the Muschiettis told Entertainment Weekly. The series highlights key themes such as fear, loss, and unity while focusing on how fear can be used as a weapon—something the creators say resonates strongly with today's world. The ensemble cast includes Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe, and Rudy Mancuso. In addition to the Muschiettis, executive producers include Jason Fuchs, Brad Caleb Kane, David Coatsworth, Shelley Meals, Roy Lee, Dan Lin, and Skarsgård himself. Fuchs, who penned the teleplay for the premiere episode, shares showrunning duties with Kane. Welcome to Derry is produced by HBO and Warner Bros. Television and is slated to premiere this fall on HBO Max.

Everything we know about Forever season 2 on Netflix so far

Netflix has not yet announced a second season of Forever, the television adaptation of Judy Blume's 1975 novel. The series, developed by Mara Brock Akil, premiered this month and reimagines the coming-of-age story in 2019 Los Angeles, centring on two young Black protagonists, Keisha and Justin. Brock Akil told Entertainment Weekly she is open to continuing the story. 'There's absolutely room for that,' she said. 'If the audience wants more, I want more. Let's go do it.' The season concludes with the couple going their separate ways—Keisha enrolling at Howard University and Justin deferring his admission to Northwestern to focus on music. In a final scene, they bump into each other at a CVS in a moment that's both bittersweet and hopeful. Brock Akil emphasised that while sex remains central to the story, the show also addresses themes of identity and survival. 'Keisha was his [Justin's] journey through that to find what desire feels like,' she explained. She added that for young Black men and women, the stakes around relationships often carry deeper social and emotional weight. 'For a Black mother raising a Black boy, I'm most concerned with: Is he going to live in this modern era?' She noted the ending reflects a mature parting, not a destructive breakup. 'Though they broke up to go their separate ways… they did it in love,' she said, adding that a possible reunion would also be rooted in love. If renewed, season two would likely follow Keisha and Justin as they navigate early adulthood and potentially reconnect. Lovie Simone and Michael Cooper Jr. are expected to return in the lead roles, alongside supporting cast members including Xosha Roquemore, Karen Pittman, and Wood Harris.
