Awareness prog on hepatitis held at Medicover Hospital
Karimnagar: Medicover surgical gastroenterologist Dr. Dilip Reddy said that liver diseases can be eliminated only by increasing awareness about hepatitis. On the occasion of World Hepatitis Day, an awareness programme on hepatitis was organised at the local Vageshwari Degree and PG College on Monday. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Dilip Reddy said that hepatitis viruses attack the liver, which performs more than 500 vital functions in our body. Hepatitis is a liver disease. Its main types are M, B, C, D and E viruses and their effects range from low to fatal. They are spread through blood transfusion and sexual contact. Vaccines for hepatitis are available, and everyone should be aware of the vaccines and get them. Hepatitis can be eliminated if precautions are taken, he said. The programme, held under the aegis of Medicover Hospital Centre Head Gurram Kiran, was attended by Rajeshwari College Chairman BVR Gopal Reddy, Principal Satish Goud, Venkat Reddy, Vice Principal Ramana, Chaitanya, Hospital Marketing Manager Kota Karunakar, Dasari Chandrasekhar, Anil, and students.

Stress on improving edu, health facilities
Tirupati: Speakers at an awareness meeting held on the occasion of World Population Day at SPW Degree and PG College here on Friday, emphasised on improving basic facilities including health, education and livelihood to all to cope with increasing population. SVIMS deemed university Vice-Chancellor Dr R V Kumar said the country was nearing first place in population with the number of people in the country reaching 143 crore this was mainly due to rise in medical and health facilities. He said focus would be laid on food, social security and improving employment opportunities. SPW Degree and PG College Principal Dr Thirumala Narayanamma who presided over the meeting said there should be balance between increasing population and economic stability. Women empowerment cell co-ordinator Dr Uma Rani said the youth in our populous country should possess awareness on healthy lifestyle and make it a practice to take staple food. Assistant professors Dr Pravallika Sudharani, Dr Bhavani, SVIMS Medical College Principal Usha Kalavathi, Dr Lakshmi, Dr Padmaja, Dr Pushpalatha, Srivani, Lakshmi Devi and Vijaya Kumari were present.

Awareness programme held on substance abuse
Visakhapatnam: Marking the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, an awareness programme was held at MVR Degree and PG College on Thursday. Addressing the students, the college Secretary and Correspondent V Rama Rao stressed on the importance of staying away from substance abuse and being focused on their academic goals. He exhorted youth to lead life in a responsible manner. Participating as chief guest, Circle Inspector of Police, Gajuwaka A Parthasarathi explained the dangers of drug abuse and illicit trafficking and their impact on health and society. He stated that drug abusers suffer from harmful effects caused by drugs, humiliation and social discrimination they face. He explained that drug abuse not only impacts individuals and families but also society. Highlighting the theme for 2025 'the evidence is clear: invest in prevention', the CI stressed that students and all the stakeholders should strive to build a drug-free society. College Principal A Balakrishna, junior college Principal Y Eshwar Raju, Vice Principal SV Krishna, Intermediate College Principal V Tejeswar Rao, assistant principal PH Ram and others, along with students and faculty, participated.

Captain Satyaveni honoured for distinguished service at NCC training camp
Vizianagaram: Captain M. Satyaveni of Satya Degree and PG College received a special certificate of appreciation from Colonel Gopendra, Commanding Officer of the 2(A) Girls Battalion NCC, Vizianagaram, in recognition of her exemplary services during the annual NCC training camp held at SITAM College from May 15 to May 24, 2025. The appreciation letter, issued by Col. Gopendra, highlighted Captain Satyaveni's outstanding leadership as Deputy Camp Commandant and Second-in-Command. Her coordination in managing 570 cadets, facilitating collaboration among Associate NCC Officers (ANOs), and ensuring the smooth execution of camp activities was especially commended. Captain Satyaveni's dedication and efficiency were praised by NCC officials, who congratulated her for her invaluable contributions to the camp's success and wished her continued achievements in the future. Bhainsa town to get PG college soon, assures MLA
Nirmal: In a welcome address, MLA Pawar Ramarao Patel said that he will soon work to establish a PG College in Bhainsa town. On Monday, he spoke at the release of promotional posters for admissions in Gopal Rao Patel Government Degree College and Mudhol Government Degree College at the MLA's residence in Bhainsa during which he commended government teachers for taking up the campaign for admissions as opposed to private ones. He said that Rs 5 crore have been sanctioned under the Central USHA scheme for the development of GPL Degree College. Meanwhile, college principal Butchaiah and teachers lauded the government's efforts in focusing on educational development. Later, they spoke about the courses and facilities in the college. 'Students should register online through Dost for degree admission. There are faculty members with PhD and M Phil degrees and there is also a digital library in the college. So students should utilise this opportunity,' said the principal.
