Nawaz, Maryam meet UAE ambassador, seek to expand ties

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Muhammad Nawaz Sharif along with Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif met UAE Ambassador to Pakistan Hamad Obaid Ibrahim Salem Al-Zaabi and held a detailed discussion on how to expand bilateral cooperation in fraternal relations, economic partnership, education, science and sustainable development. They warmly welcomed the UAE Ambassador, and conveyed best wishes and goodwill of people of Punjab to the visionary leadership and people of UAE. They agreed to take cooperation between Pakistan and UAE to new heights, and paid tribute to the leadership of UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. They appreciated the scientific progress, environmental friendliness, and modern vision of UAE leadership. President PML-N said, 'Relationship between Pakistan and UAE is not just diplomatic but a bond of hearts. Bilateral relations between Pakistan and UAE have always stood the test of time and circumstances.' Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif said, 'We are keen to further expand cooperation with UAE in fields of education, research and environment. Visa-free entry for official and diplomatic passport holders between Pakistan and UAE is commendable.' She highlighted, 'Increase in Pak-UAE bilateral trade volume is a source of joy. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and PML-N President Muhammad Nawaz Sharif discussed with UAE Ambassador Hamad Obaid Ibrahim Salem Al-Zaabi the expansion of bilateral economic partnership and cooperation in education, science and sustainable development. The chief minister and former PM Nawaz Sharif conveyed best wishes and goodwill of the people of Punjab to the leadership and people of UAE. They agreed to take cooperation between Pakistan and UAE to new heights, and paid tribute to the leadership of President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The leaders appreciated the scientific progress, environment friendliness, and modern vision of the UAE leadership. The PML-N leader said on the occasion, "Relationship between Pakistan and UAE is not just diplomatic but a bond of hearts. We salute our 'iron brother'." She added,"Pak-China relations are not limited to state or defence interests, but are also ties of hearts." She highlighted,"Pak-China defence cooperation is a bright symbol of everlasting friendship." The chief minister said, "Professionalism, modern military strategy and spirit of national service of People's Liberation Army are exemplary." She added,"Mutual trust, joint training and defence cooperation between Pakistani and Chinese armed forces have become stronger over time."

MOUs, agreement inked at Pak-UAE JMC in Abu Dhabi

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and United Arab Emirates (UAE) have signed memoranda of understanding on 'Mutual Exemption of Entry Visa Requirements' and 'Establishment of a Joint Task Force to Promote Investments' as well as an agreement on 'Artificial Intelligence and Digital Economy'. The 12th session of Pakistan-UAE Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) was held in Abu Dhabi on 24 June 2025. It was co-chaired by Deputy Prime Minister/Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, and Deputy PM and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the UAE, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Pak-UAE joint ministerial commission session today Prior to the formal proceedings, a working group meeting of the JMC was held under the leadership of Special Assistant to the Prime Minister of Pakistan Tariq Bajwa and Minister of State of the UAE Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh. The JMC reviewed the full scope of bilateral relations and agreed on concrete measures to strengthen cooperation in trade, banking, culture, investment, aviation, railways, energy, food security, climate change, defence, healthcare, manpower, higher education and information technology. Both sides emphasised enhancing institutional mechanisms and promoting inter-ministerial coordination. Held in an atmosphere of mutual understanding and brotherhood, the session included exchanges on regional and global developments. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to peace and stability in the region. A protocol, outlining procedural frameworks for follow-up actions, coordination through sectoral working groups and facilitation for reciprocal visits, was also signed. In addition to the protocol of the session, both parties expressed satisfaction with the outcomes and agreed to hold the 13th Session of the JMC in Pakistan on mutually agreed dates. The successful convening of the JMC session underscores the deep-rooted and multifaceted relationship between Pakistan and the UAE and their shared vision for a dynamic and progressive partnership. Dar in UAE to lead 12th JMC session

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Monday arrived in the UAE for the 12th session of Pakistan-UAE Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC). The session will be held in Abu Dhabi today. The 12th session of the Pak-UAE JMC is being held after 13 years, following its scheduling in October 2024. The last session was held in Islamabad from 6-7 Nov 2013. The JMC serves as the highest institutionalised platform for bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and the UAE, a DPM's Office statement said. The session will take forward the agenda of deepening strategic, economic and development cooperation between the two brotherly countries. Pakistan delegation led by the DPM/FM comprises secretaries and senior officials from key ministries including economic affairs, commerce, energy, maritime affairs and interior. The UAE side will be led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan along with high-level representation from relevant Emirati institutions. The session will review progress across multiple domains of bilateral cooperation and explore new avenues for collaboration in trade, investment, energy, infrastructure development and IT. A number of legal instruments are expected to be finalized during the session to institutionalize sectoral cooperation. The session will provide an important opportunity for both sides to align their economic priorities and unlock the potential of enhancing scope of mutually beneficial partnership.
