Gorakhpur dist jail inmates get open gym facility
1 2 3 Gorakhpur: To promote physical fitness and mental well-being among inmates, an open gym was inaugurated at the Gorakhpur District Jail recently. The facility was launched under the government guidelines and aligns with the wellness goals outlined by the Uttar Pradesh State Legal Services Authority (UPSLSA), Lucknow, said Jailer AK Kushwaha on Sunday. The gym was formally inaugurated by Additional District Judge and secretary, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Pankaj Srivastava. Officials present at the event underscored the significance of regular exercise and yoga in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The jailer said that of the 2,000 inmates currently lodged in the jail, around 1,000 will be able to use the open gym facility. The remaining inmates are either elderly, unwell, or housed under high-security restrictions. A roster is being prepared to schedule exercise slots for inmates during morning and evening hours. On the inaugural day, 100 inmates participated in yoga sessions at the open gym. While there are 100 women inmates in the facility, they are currently unable to access the gym due to the absence of a dedicated boundary wall. "Once the boundary is constructed, women inmates will also be allowed to use the open gym," the jailer added. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Use an AI Writing Tool That Actually Understands Your Voice Grammarly Install Now Undo In the meantime, female inmates continue to practice yoga within the women's barrack.
