FNC urges ethical AI use at Marrakesh forum
Focus on AI governance and parliamentary awareness Amna Ali AlAdidi, member of the Federal National Council (FNC) Parliamentary Division, took part in a key session titled 'Artificial Intelligence and its Governance: Strengthening Parliamentary Awareness in AI Development, Applications and Regulation.' The session tackled the governance of emerging technologies, proposed the idea of an international AI treaty, assessed AI's impact on labour markets and ethics, and discussed establishing a regional advisory body to enhance coordination and responsible innovation. Emphasis on legal frameworks and public awareness During her remarks, AlAdidi stressed the importance of organising dialogue sessions and parliamentary seminars to better explain AI concepts to legislators. She highlighted the need for legal frameworks that ensure AI's safe and responsible use, while calling for partnerships with educational and media institutions to launch public awareness campaigns about the implications of AI. UAE's AI initiatives and vision for the future AlAdidi also showcased the UAE's strategic initiatives in developing AI technologies, viewing them as a key component in advancing a knowledge-based economy. Notably, she pointed out that the UAE is the first country in the Middle East to mandate AI integration into the national curriculum, starting from the 2025–2026 academic year. This policy is part of a national vision to equip future generations with the tools needed for sustainable development, innovation, and global competitiveness in the years ahead.

Representatives Sec Gen Congratulates Shura Sec Gen on Prestigious Award
Manama: Mohammed Ibrahim Al Sisi Al Buainain, Secretary-General of the Council of Representatives and Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Parliamentary Division, extended his congratulations to Kareema Mohammed Al Abbasi, Secretary-General of the Shura Council, upon her receiving the Arab Parliamentary Excellence Award. This accolade was awarded in the 'Secretary-General of Parliament' category by the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union. According to Bahrain News Agency, the award ceremony took place during the 38th Conference of the Union, hosted in Algeria. Al Buainain remarked that this recognition signifies the progress and achievements occurring in all sectors under the Kingdom's comprehensive development strategy, steered by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. Al Buainain also acknowledged the ongoing support and guidance provided to the General Secretariats of both the Council of Representatives and the Shura Council by Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Parliamentary Division, and Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh, Chairman of the Shura Council. He stressed the importance of the support from all members of the Council of Representatives and the Shura Council, alongside the hard work of the staff in the two General Secretariats. He further praised Al Abbasi for her contributions to the Shura Council's operations, highlighting her role in administrative services and her commitment to fostering collaboration with the General Secretariat of the Council of Representatives. Her dedication to enhancing the operations of General Secretariats in Arab parliaments and councils, as well as her efforts in strengthening their presence in regional and international forums, was also commended.

Shura Chairman Congratulates Shura Council Secretary-General on Arab Parliamentary Excellence Award
Manama: Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh, Chairman of the Shura Council, congratulated Kareema Mohammed Al Abbasi, Secretary-General of the Shura Council, on receiving the Arab Parliamentary Excellence Award in the category of 'Secretary-General of Parliament' by the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union. The award was presented during the participation of the Parliamentary Division's delegation in the 38th Conference of the Union, held in Algeria. According to Bahrain News Agency, the chairman emphasised that this award is a new addition to the achievements and successes of Bahraini women and reflects the continuous support they receive from His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa; His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister; and Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Consort of His Majesty the King and President of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW). He commended the dedication and contributions of the Secretary-General to advancing the work of the Shura Council's General Secretariat, and her efforts to strengthen the role of its members as part of Team Bahrain in supporting the Council's work. The Chairman expressed pride in the presence of Bahraini women at national, regional, and international levels, and in their notable achievements that have earned recognition in international forums.

Bahrain Gains Full Membership in the Mediterranean Parliament
A delegation from Bahrain's Parliamentary Division, led by Dr. Jehad Abdullah Al-Fadhel, Second Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council, has officially received full and permanent membership in the Mediterranean Parliament. The membership was conferred during the closing session of the 19th General Assembly of the Mediterranean Parliament, held in Rome, Italy, from February 19 to 21. The delegation had previously submitted an official request to join, emphasizing Bahrain's commitment to strengthening parliamentary diplomacy and fostering unified perspectives on key regional and international issues. During the assembly, the delegation witnessed the election of a new president for the Mediterranean Parliament for the 2025-2026 term, along with the selection of new members for the council's executive office. Additionally, they attended, as observers, meetings reviewing reports from three of the Parliament's standing committees. The delegation actively participated in discussions within the First Standing Committee on "Political and Security Cooperation and Activities for 2025," which covered topics such as "Geopolitical and Security Developments in the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf Regions" and "Emerging Threats from Terrorist and Criminal Activities in Mediterranean Parliamentary Areas." Furthermore, the delegation attended sessions of the Second Standing Committee, which focused on "Economic, Social, and Environmental Cooperation and Activities for 2025." Reports discussed included "Challenges and Opportunities for Economic Growth in the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf Regions" and "Biodiversity, Climate Change, and Desertification: Implementation of the Three Rio Conventions and Environmental Prospects in Mediterranean Parliamentary Areas." The Third Standing Committee also presented its work on "Intercultural Dialogue, Human Rights, and Activities for 2025." Topics reviewed included reports on "Human Trafficking During Complex Crises in the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf Regions" and "The Right to Safe Drinking Water and Sanitation as a Fundamental Human Right." Bahrain's full membership in the Mediterranean Parliament marks a significant step in enhancing its role in regional and international parliamentary affairs, paving the way for greater cooperation and dialogue on issues of shared interest.
