Anifah backs Hajiji's move for GRS consensus on assembly dissolution

Anifah KOTA KINABALU (July 13): Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS) president Senator Tan Sri Anifah Aman has expressed full support for Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor's decision to consult the presidents of all Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) component parties before making any move to dissolve the Sabah State Legislative Assembly. In a statement on Sunday, Anifah described Hajiji's approach as a 'wise move' that reflects respect for the voices of the grassroots. 'I welcome the statement made by Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji on wanting to consult the presidents of GRS component parties before deciding on the dissolution of the Sabah Legislative Assembly,' said Anifah. 'This is a wise move by the Chief Minister in choosing to make a collective decision. The component parties represent the voices of the Sabahan grassroots, and it is important that the GRS leadership takes these voices into account before making any decision to dissolve the State Assembly,' he added. Anifah acknowledged that PCS, as the youngest and smallest party in the coalition, may not carry the same weight as the larger parties but stressed that it brings forward strong ideas and aspirations for the people of Sabah. 'As the youngest party in the coalition, we may be small, but that does not mean we lack big ideas,' he said. 'I assure my party members and supporters that I will bring your voices and suggestions to the GRS Supreme Council and ensure they are heard by the Right Honourable Chief Minister.' As Sabah draws closer to its next state election, Anifah reiterated PCS's unwavering support for Hajiji and the GRS coalition. 'As we approach the elections, I pledge my full support to the leadership of Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor and the GRS coalition,' he said. 'Whatever decision is made, we must ensure that GRS continues to form the backbone of the Sabah State Government and deliver on the aspirations of the people,' Anifah stressed.

Anifah may contest in Bongawan if voters insist

Anifah KOTA KINABALU (May 29): Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS) president Tan Sri Anifah Aman said that he would consider contesting in the coming state election if that is the wish of the constituents in Bongawan. Speaking to The Borneo Post today, Anifah explained that his recent statement on social media was about wresting the Bongawan constituency from incumbent Dr Daud Yusof. The former Kimanis Member of Parliament said that it is PCS' aim to ensure that all Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) candidates are victorious in the election. When asked if he intends to contest in the Bongawan seat as reported by several mainstream media recently, Anifah replied,' not exactly, I want to find the suitable candidate because I know my hardcore voters when I served as the Kimanis Member of Parliament. 'So I am just helping to identify the suitable and winnable candidate,' said Anifah who had served as former Malaysia Foreign Minister. And when asked if the constituents insist that they want him to contest, Anifah replied, 'Then I will consider. The recent reports said that the PCS president made the announcement of his intention to contest the Bongawan state seat in the upcoming Sabah state election via Facebook. Anifah was quoted as saying that his decision is not aimed at merely challenging the incumbent, Dr Daud. 'I respect him as a colleague. However, the people of Bongawan want development equivalent to that of a full-fledged district. This has long been promised, and it should already have been enjoyed, but it is still not felt. 'Basic facilities such as a hospital, fire station, road connectivity, and other infrastructure are still neither planned nor championed. It remains quiet and neglected. Where is the political will that was once proclaimed?' Anifah was quoted as saying.

‘Hand post back to Labuan-born'

Published on: Monday, May 19, 2025 Published on: Mon, May 19, 2025 By: Sohan Das Text Size: Jalali (right) recalled that when Anifah (left) was appointed to the position, it sparked outrage as Anifah was seen as an 'outsider' who lost his deposit when his Parti Cinta Sabah was also wiped out in the previous Sabah election. LABUAN: The post of Chairman of Labuan Corporation should be handed back to a Labuan-born when the term of Tan Sri Anifah Aman, who is from Sabah, expires next month. Activist Hj Abdul Haji Jalali Hj Ghani said there are qualified and capable local leaders who should not be denied the opportunity as very few locals hold top positions on the island. Advertisement Jalil recalled that when Anifah was appointed to the position, it sparked outrage as Anifah was seen as an 'outsider' who lost his deposit when his Parti Cinta Sabah was also wiped out in the previous Sabah election. But some quarters urged that he be given a chance to prove what he could do for the island. 'Next month he completes his two-year term but has he anything to show from all his overseas missions to bring in investors?' said Hj Abdul Haji Jalali. He said being a Foreign Minister previously should not automatically qualify someone to be Chairman of LC which 'needs different requirements to face different challenges'. 'It is so far also unclear if Anifah who is also Special Advisor to Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Hajiji Noor, was the one who brought in multi-billion ringgit investors to Sabah like e-steel, Kibing and Nexilis. Advertisement 'Or else, he could also have brought such investments to Labuan as well,' he said. Due to lack of his presence on the island last year, Chairman of Labuan Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Datuk Wong Kii, told him to decide whether he was really interested in serving Labuan. Anifah was also appointed Senator representing Labuan. Former Chief Minister Tan Sri Harris Salleh also said he heard complaints that Anifah was seldom in Labuan. 'Besides, with state elections looming in Sabah, Hajiji would be depending on Anifah and the Parti Cinta Sabah to help GRS win,' he said. The previous Chairmen of LC were all Labuan residents and they include Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman (2001-2009), Datuk Rozman Isli and Datuk Bashir Alias. Anifah Aman eyes Bongawan state seat

KOTA KINABALU: Former Foreign Minister Tan Sri Anifah Aman has announced his intention to contest the Bongawan state seat in the upcoming Sabah state election. The Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS) president made the announcement via Facebook yesterday, stating that his decision is not aimed at merely challenging the incumbent, Dr Daud Yusuf. "I respect him as a colleague. However, the people of Bongawan want development equivalent to that of a full-fledged district. "This has long been promised, and it should already have been enjoyed, but it is still not felt. "Basic facilities such as a hospital, fire station, road connectivity, and other infrastructure are still neither planned nor championed. It remains quiet and neglected. "Where is the political will that was once proclaimed?" As for the seat distribution, the former Kimanis member of Parliament said the state election is not a contest over who gets the most seats, but about who can win. He added that the legitimacy of the government depends on how many seats are won. In the last state election, PCS contested in 73 state seats but lost all. Other component parties in GRS are Parti Bersatu Sabah, Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah, Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku Sabah, Sabah Progressive Party, Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah and Liberal Democratic Party. He added that PCS's struggle within GRS is clear — to uphold the shared cause for collective victory. "The focus is not on the number of candidates, but on winning seats for GRS. "All GRS component parties must maintain unity for political stability and the benefit of the state and its people,". He said that the people must be confident that GRS is a strong, solid local coalition, and worthy of being re-elected to continue Sabah's progress.
