CARAS award for Pembrokeshire County Show chairman
Mike Davies, chairman of the Pembrokeshire Agricultural Society's board of trustees, received the Associateship of the Royal Agricultural Societies (ARAgS) from CARAS at the Royal Welsh Show. Mr Davies said: "I am very proud to receive this award from CARAS. "It means a lot to me. "I don't seek recognition for the work I do but it is gratefully received." CARAS, the Council for Awards of Royal Agricultural Societies, honours individuals who have made a significant impact on agriculture and the wider rural sector. Mr Davies has played a key role in organising and running the Pembrokeshire County Show for many years. He began stewarding Welsh Mountain ponies in 1999, joined the executive committee in 2001, and went on to serve as chief steward of Welsh horse breeds and as show president in 2013. During the covid-19 pandemic, he led the society through a period of uncertainty, making difficult decisions to safeguard its future and ensure the county show could continue. Mansel Raymond MBE FRAgS, chair of CARAS Cymru and a former president of the Pembrokeshire Agricultural Society, said: "Mike Davies is a very worthy recipient of the ARAgS for his outstanding contribution to agriculture and the farming community in Pembrokeshire. "His commitment and dedication to the Pembrokeshire Agricultural Society is very clear to see, and his skilful leadership has helped steer the society through difficulties and has helped ensure the continued existence of our beloved Pembrokeshire County Show and ensured that we still have this fabulous event in the county to showcase our farming industry." Mr Davies farms in partnership with his brother Martin and their families. He manages the dairy and arable unit at Good Hook alongside his wife Ann and sons Danny and Joe. Meanwhile, Martin runs a poultry unit at Cuckoo Mill Farm, producing turkeys for farmers' markets and the catering sector across south-west Wales. In addition to his work with the agricultural society, Mr Davies serves as chairman of the Pembrokeshire Hunt and chairman of Fallen Stock. Other Pembrokeshire recipients of the ARAgS award included Delme Harries, a director and trustee of the Pembrokeshire Agricultural Society since 2021. Mr Harries is also vice chairman of Pembrokeshire County Council and a long-serving representative of NFU Mutual. Additional honourees included Janet and Perkin Evans, William Pritchard, and Sam Kurtz, while Huw Thomas of Puffin Produce was elevated to Fellowship. The awards were presented by Mr Raymond at the Royal Welsh Show.

River Tywi, Teifi and Cleddau phosphorus pollution tackled
A new website has been launched to highlight collaborative efforts across west Wales to restore the health of its rivers, focusing on the Tywi, Teifi, and Cleddau catchments. The site, details the work of the West Wales Nutrient Management Boards (NMBs), which aim to tackle phosphorus pollution in these Special Areas of Conservation. Gail Pearce-Taylor, programme manager for the Tywi, Teifi, and Cleddau NMBs, said: "This website is our way of sharing everything we've learned so far and bringing people with us as we build nutrient management plans for the future. "The challenge of phosphorus pollution can only be tackled by working together – and that's what makes these boards so special." The boards are funded by the Welsh Government and led by local authorities in Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire, and Pembrokeshire. They bring together public bodies, utilities, environmental groups, and local communities to develop long-term water quality solutions that support sustainable development. The new website offers GIS-mapped data, non-technical summaries, resources for landowners and developers, and findings from citizen science projects. It also provides information on joining stakeholder groups or taking part in consultations. The chairs of the three river boards, Cllr Clive Davies of Ceredigion (Teifi), Cllr Carys Jones of Carmarthenshire (Tywi), and Cllr Jacob Williams of Pembrokeshire (Cleddau), issued a joint statement. They said: "The health of our rivers underpins everything – our wildlife, our economy, and our communities. "It's vital that we take a proactive and collaborative approach. "This new website gives people the tools and knowledge to be part of the solution." The boards will be present at several events over the summer, including the Tywi River Festival on July 19, the Royal Welsh Show on July 21, and the Pembrokeshire County Show (FUW Stand) on August 20 and 21. Organisers are keen to raise awareness of the boards' work and encourage farmers, landowners, developers, and young people to engage with the site, learn about the issues, and share feedback.

The future's in focus for Jake as he launches his own media company in Pembrokeshire
A former Pembrokeshire College media student is now the proud owner of his own creative business. Jake Aldred has been capturing important moments from weddings and sporting and musical events since successfully launching Jake Aldred Media. Jake's vision was not to progress to university after college, but to work as a freelance, and it was thanks to his tutor that he was able to realise this ambition. "I'm incredibly excited to take this next step and build something of my own," he said. "I studied Creative Media Production Level 3 at Pembrokeshire College - the course really helped me develop a lot of my basic skills for being a videographer and photographer and I started to do some social media work for local businesses and then this allowed me to progress in capturing my first wedding while studying. 'A big help was from my tutor Denys, who understood I did not want to go onto university and instead knew I wanted to become a freelancer and build connections. 'Denys also helped me connect with the right people in the college, such the Enterprise Team where they put me in contact with the local council and helped me secure some funding for my business.' For more information on Jake Aldred Media and to book services, visit To find out more about the creative courses offered at Pembrokeshire College, visit: Jake's particular focus is on the wedding industry, but his portfolio has extended way beyond that, thanks to his coverage of events such as Ironman competitions, the Pembrokeshire County Show, SaundersFest, and high-profile promotional material with the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust, the Cardiff Dragons Women's Netball Team and S4C. He also provides videography and photography services for live music events.
