‘We went looking for treasure & found nostalgia at every turn'

The three musketeers walk down memory lane with the The Curse of the Philosopher's Stone prop from the filmpics: Anindya Saha What's better than one brave character on an adventure? Three, of course! Koel Mallick , Parambrata Chattopadhyay , and Gaurav Chakrabarty are back together for the third film of the franchise, Sonar Kellay Jawker Dhan. Jaisalmer's golden sands aren't just scenic but the backdrop of the desert mystery they're chasing. It's not a remake, but a sun-soaked adventure with a knowing nod to Satyajit Ray 's Sonar Kella. And behind the scenes? Think Laal maas, post-packup adda, and Parambrata pulling pranks. We caught up with the trio at Kolkata Centre for Creativity, for a freewheeling chat to know how like the Philosopher's Stone in the story, their film promises a treasure trove of fun, friendship, food, and a whole lot of detective dazzle. Koel channels her character, psychiatrist Dr Ruby "The people of Jaisalmer are great, and the food is even better. We ate a lot of Dal baati churma & ghee. These two even had Laal maas without me" – Koel Mallick Action heroes, but with a twist Though Parambrata and Gaurav have not embodied action heroes on screen, but Koel says they aced it. 'Both Bimal (Param) and Kumar (Gaurav) have done fantastic action sequences. You've never really seen them do this before, but they've done it marvellously.' To this, Parambrata said: 'An adda session went on till 2am, but we got to know it was a 9am call. I had hardcore action scenes to shoot. It was, to put it plainly, not ideal,' he grinned. Jaisalmer and Ray's golden touch Calling Jaisalmer, especially its outskirts, the most beautiful part of the country, Parambrata reflected on the nostalgia associated with Sonar Kella and said, 'Many people got to know about Jaisalmer from Sonar Kella the film.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Essen: Gutes Hören sucht 700 Testhörer für Hörgeräte ohne Zuzahlung Gutes Hören Undo Reflecting on the same train of thought, Gaurav said that he saw Mukul Bari written outside the house in Hindi, adding, 'It's fascinating to see how, even though it's a Bengali name, Mukul Bari was written in hindi. ' What's a shoot without a few pranks? Outstation shoots are an opportunity to spend more time with co-actors and to pull each other's leg, or as the two men implied, Param pulling Koel's leg! Laughing and disagreeing with this, Koel said, 'Param has a certain way of getting into shoots and then pulling pranks on the team, and thankfully this time it was not me but Shaheb (Chatterjee).' Parambrata shares fun anecdotes from the shoot "There's something so emotional about shooting in Jaisalmer. Its vast desert holds a golden memory for many Bengalis" –Parambrata Chattopadhyay A grand sleuth reunion Given their collective detective resumes – Parambrata as Feluda, Koel as Mitin, and Gaurav as Byomkesh and Topshe – stepping into the world of Bimal and Kumar felt like a genre reunion. 'Feluda has a visual reference thanks to Ray's illustrations. Byomkesh doesn't. So the audience expects tall, charismatic detectives in jackets and dhotis,' explained Param. 'With Bimal and Kumar, we've moved away from Hemendra Kumar Roy's original story after the first film. We've built a world of our own.' Koel chimed in: 'My favourites? Feluda, Byomkesh… and yes, Mitin too, since I've played her.' Gaurav went global with his picks: 'I love Feluda's charm, but Philip Marlowe is another favourite. Inspired by him, Anjan Dutt even created Rudra Sen.' Param added a contemporary name to the list: 'Cormoran Strike, written by JK Rowling under Robert Galbraith. And yes, Feluda made me feel like I was travelling the world.' Gaurav with the charmed stones that play a crucial part in the film We are all Ray fans and Sonar Kella is a part of our pop culture. Shooting in Jaisalmer connected me to the cult film. It felt like I was living a childhood dream – Gaurav Chakrabarty When the book hit the floor and the giggles began Parambrata shared a delightful behind-the-scenes moment with co-star Saheb from the shoot. He recalled a scene and said, 'There is a sequence where Saheb and I meet for the first time, and we bump into each other and the book, The Curse of the Philosopher's Stone, falls and what truly tickled me was Saheb's intense dedication to his acting. Saheb takes his actor self seriously, sometimes very seriously, so every time the book fell, he would pick it up in such a dramatic way and every time he did that, I would giggle a bit. ' Without revealing why, the three also gave us a hint that The Curse of the Philosopher's Stone is an essential part of the storyline. Watch: Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan investigate in 'Thursday Murder Club'

May 29 (UPI) -- Netflix is teasing The Thursday Murder Club starring Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan. The actors, who also star opposite one another in MobLand, portray retirees Elizabeth and Ron, who enjoy solving cold cases alongside Ibrahim (Ben Kingsley) and Joyce (Celia Imrie). The film takes its inspiration from Richard Osman's 2020 book, and follows the group as "their casual sleuthing takes a thrilling turn when they find themselves with a real whodunit on their hands," according to an official synopsis. "There's been a murder, an actual murder," Joyce says in the trailer released Thursday. "Now we've got a real case to solve. Isn't it wonderful? Obviously, RIP and all that." Chris Columbus, known for his work on Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, directs the film. "This is the finest cast I've worked with since Potter," he told Netflix's Tudum. "They're just so incredibly well-prepared, and it's because they do everything. They do theater, they do television, they do film, and they've developed those sorts of muscles." "Thematically it's interesting that we've got four elderly people who are living in a retirement community and who are fascinated by death and murder," he said. "They are facing their own demise, yet at the same time they are obsessed with studying cold cases. I fell in love thematically with that. It's comedic, but it's also very emotional." Naomi Ackie, Daniel Mays, Henry Lloyd-Hughes, Tom Ellis, Jonathan Pryce, David Tennant, Paul Freeman, Geoff Bell, Richard E. Grant and Ingrid Oliver also star in the film, which arrives on Netflix Aug. 28.

Harry Potter fans annoyed about casting detail no one's got right in 25 years

Following the announcement of who will be playing Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger in HBO's upcoming reboot of the popular book series, fans are still unhappy about one forgotten detail. Earlier this week, Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton and Alastair Stout were revealed as the three children who will be portraying the golden trio in a TV adaptation of JK Rowling's books. The youngsters are joining the likes of John Lithgow, Paapa Essiedu and Nick Frost, who have already been cast to play Albus Dumbledore, Severus Snape and Hagrid, respectively. Following the release of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in 1997, countless spin-offs and royalties have made Rowling one of the richest authors in the world. But the franchise has not come without controversy, after Rowling's views on trans rights caused many to boycott the new HBO series. Yet, following the latest cast announcement, it appears there is now even more contention after fans slammed the show's makers for overlooking one character's eye colour. Taking to social media, a number of fans pointed out how one of Harry Potter's most mentioned physical traits in the book has been forgotten. Writing on X, @cozyY29 said: 'Dominic McLaughlin, who will play Harry Potter. This is perfect, just one thing. They eyes Harry is meant to have green eyes. But in this picture, it looks blue.' @YosefPiperno added: 'Black hair. Green eyes. How is this so hard?' @italkmusicfilm also questioned: 'Where's his green eyes? 😳' Our TV reporter Milo Pope shares his thoughts… Accuracy is everything when it comes to a TV series adapting a famous book series. Whenever you have a loyal fanbase involved, the attention to detail on the little things is what's so critical in keeping them on board for later reboots or new adaptations. Think The Last of Us Part II, countless fans of the original video game have crucified showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann for deviating from some character traits and plot points in the latest series. But, as Craig and Neil have explained, it all comes down to how faithful a new show or adaptation wants to be to the original material. If the new Harry Potter series wants to update certain elements from the books, Harry's eye colour certainly won't be a problem. But, if everything is created to be an exact replica, it's certainly understandable for die-hard Harry Potter fans to be frustrated by the little details not being included. With that being said, Dominic McLaughlin – along with Arabella Stanton and Alastair Stout – looks pretty perfect for the role in my mind. I assume the search for the next Harry was hard enough for the producers who probably had to trawl through countless hours of audition footage to find the nearest match. After the credits roll for the first episode of this new reboot, I'm not sure anybody will be too focused on a character's eye colour. The heavy criticism stems from the fact that Harry's green eyes are a key link to his mother, Lily Potter. These sorts of details are especially important in scenes when Snape admits he is hard on Harry because his eyes remind the professor of his former love. @JohnXADX added on X: 'Far from being precious about the books, one thing I hope is that Harry gets his green eyes back.' The same issue occurred when Daniel Radcliffe, who had blue eyes, played Harry in the original films. According to a producer, Harry tried wearing green contact lenses when the first film was being shot, but had an allergic reaction to them and had to stop. Despite the controversy, Rowling wrote on X after the news of the castings broke: 'All three are wonderful. I couldn't be happier.' More Trending Discussing the new cast, executive producers Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod said of the casting: 'After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron. 'The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen. 'We would like to thank all the tens of thousands of children who auditioned. It's been a real pleasure to discover the plethora of young talent out there.' Harry Potter Actor Dominic McLaughlin's Age Explained

Dominic McLaughlin has joined the cast of the Harry Potter reboot as the series' titular protagonist, Harry Potter. The announcement has stirred curiosity about the young actor among fans of the books and movies. The Harry Potter series is one of the most anticipated projects by HBO, which is currently in development. Here is every detail fans need to know regarding Dominic McLaughlin and his age. With Dominic McLaughlin's casting as Harry Potter in the upcoming HBO reboot series, fans are eager to know about his age. However, information regarding the young actor's age is not available online. But fans need to note that McLaughlin's age likely falls between 9 to 11 years old, as HBO took auditions of actors who were in this age bracket to cast an actor for the role. McLaughlin is all set to carry on the legacy of Daniel Radcliffe, who portrayed the character of Harry Potter in the movies. Radcliffe was only 11 years old when he was cast as the leading character in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in 2001. So, McLaughlin seemingly matches Radcliffe in terms of age when it comes to playing Harry Potter in an adaptation of the first book. According to The Herald's report, McLaughlin is referred to as a newcomer in the industry. Apart from the Harry Potter series, the actor will appear in two more projects. First is the Sky comedy film Grow, in which he features alongside Nick Frost, who will play Rubeus Hagrid in the reboot series. Additionally, McLaughlin is also starring in the adventure series by the BBC named Gifted. Gifted is set to come out by the end of 2025. The actor has also had stage acting experience and has worked in theater on William Shakespeare's Macbeth. Originally reported by Ishita Verma on ComingSoon. Producers have announced who will be playing the title character in the HBO series, with Dominic McLaughlin following in the footsteps of Daniel Radcliffe. Daniel, now 35, rose to fame playing Harry Potter in the film series of the same name. The actor starred in all eight films, from the Philosopher's Stone to the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, which were released in 2001 and 2011 respectively. ‌ It was announced earlier today that Dominic will play the literary character on-screen next, with him starring in the TV reboot. The news comes following an open casting call last year for actors aged between 9 and 11 in April this year. ‌ Dominic has been described as a "screen newcomer" but the adaptation of the J. K. Rowling novels isn't the only upcoming project that he's set to appear in. The Mirror has taken a look at his casting and career following the news, including how his role as Harry Potter will bring a reunion. HBO's Harry Potter Earlier today it was announced that Dominic had been cast in the role of Harry Potter in the HBO Max series. It's been teased that the film, which is set in a world of pumpkin rivalry, is a "comedy all about family, growth and nurturing". The cast also includes Jeremy Swift, Kathryn Drysdale, Alan Carr and Joe Wilkinson. Their abilities are said to range from telekinesis to invisibility and mind reading. It's been teased that the group must join forces to protect themselves when they are targeted by an organisation known as the Bodkin. Guided by their teacher Madame, they embark on a journey to learn about their powers. It was announced last year that the show was already in production. At the time, it was stated that Gifted is set to premiere on BBC iPlayer"at the end of 2025".
