'I tried Greggs sausage roll dipped in KFC gravy and it was a game-changer'

The brands have said the alliance followed Britons consuming 15,000 litres of KFC gravy and more than one million Greggs sausage rolls every day over the past year. As a northerner who regards himself as somewhat of a gravy expert, it would be reasonable to say that I have faced tougher challenges at work. ‌ The Greggs sausage roll is undoubtedly a national icon: a beloved hangover remedy, a swift bite, a light meal or a post-evening out ritual. For countless people, the notion it could be enhanced seems far-fetched, but I believe them to be mistaken, writes Conor Wilson from the Express. ‌ This afternoon, I sampled the fresh partnership between KFC and Greggs which will see the renowned sausage roll paired with gravy. This review comes after news of a ' Brit abroad slams all-inclusive hotel food asking 'what on earth is this?' ‌ Similar to wheels on luggage, it left me pondering how we managed so long without combining these two items together. I approach this with no fast-food loyalty and have always found it somewhat peculiar how obsessive the American chain became over its seasonings. Relax guys, honestly. I have yet to find a dish that gravy doesn't improve and after dunking a Greggs sausage roll into a substantial portion of KFC gravy, the quest carries on. ‌ Greggs and KFC are joining forces to deliver the "mash up the nation's been craving." The brands revealed the partnership came after Britons devoured 15,000 litres of KFC gravy and over one million Greggs sausage rolls daily throughout the previous year. They will be taking their fresh creation on a three-day journey from Thursday and will be distributing it complimentary in London on August 7. This will be followed by Manchester on August 8 and Newcastle on August 9. A sharing bucket featuring six Greggs sausage rolls and a large tub of KFC gravy will be up for grabs at £10 on 15th and 16th August. Available through Uber Eats in London, Manchester, Newcastle and Birmingham the KFC brand manager Phoebe Syms declared: "At KFC, we bleed gravy. We go to obsessive lengths for our liquid gold, and so do our fans". She added: "Now we're joining forces for just a few days to give the people a taste of what they really want … it's time for gravy to meet pastry. You're welcome". The tour is set to make stops at London's Southbank Centre on Thursday, followed by Manchester's Cathedral Gardens on Friday and then Newcastle's Times Square, all between 12pm and 5pm, with supplies available on a first come, first served basis.

Greggs teams up with KFC for 'culinary crossover of the century' - and for some it's free

Greggs and KFC are joining forces to launch a new menu item - but you'll have to be quick if you want to try it Greggs and KFC have joined forces to unveil what they've dubbed the "culinary crossover of the century" - a sausage roll smothered in gravy. ‌ The high street food giants have collaborated for the first time to pair Greggs' renowned sausage roll with KFC's signature gravy, branding it as the "mash-up the nation's been craving" and describing it as "seriously flavoursome". ‌ They're embarking on a three-day promotional tour starting this Thursday, giving away their new creation for free in London on August 7. The team then heads to Manchester on August 8, and wraps up in Newcastle on August 9. ‌ Sadly, Scotland is not included in the food adventure, despite Glasgow being home to more of the bakeries than anywhere else and the country boasting an impressive Greggs stores-per-capita ratio. But Scots can admire the calorific concoction from afar for now. And we did have a chance to take part in another recent Greggs partnership, though, when the winner of a Lewis lookalike competition at Greggs Sauchiehall Street a couple of weeks ago bagged tickets to his sold-out tour. "At KFC, we bleed gravy," KFC brand manager Phoebe Syms enthused. "We go to obsessive lengths for our liquid gold, and so do our fans. ‌ "In fact, it was them who inspired this once-in-a-lifetime event, calling for us to partner with Greggs and unite our iconic gravy with their iconic sausage rolls. "Now we're joining forces for just a few days to give the people a taste of what they really want... it's time for gravy to meet pastry. You're welcome." ‌ For a limited time, a sharing bucket filled with six Greggs sausage rolls and a hefty portion of KFC gravy will be up for grabs at £10 on Friday, August 15, and Saturday, August 16, via Uber Eats in London, Manchester, Newcastle, and Birmingham. Fiona Mills, brand communications lead at Greggs, raved: "With 96 layers of light puff pastry, and perfectly baked to give that satisfying golden crisp and flaky goodness, we've always known our sausage rolls are a true British icon. ‌ "And why not pair one icon with another? We can't wait to see what Greggs and KFC fans make of our latest partnership." The promotional tour is set to grace London's Southbank Centre on Thursday, before heading to Manchester's St Anne's Square on Friday. The tour will conclude at Newcastle's Times Square, all from 12pm to 5pm, with offerings available while stocks last. ‌ Earlier in the day, Greggs took to social media to spark curiosity among its followers about the upcoming reveal. On Instagram and TikTok, Greggs posted a short clip showing one of its famed sausage rolls in front of a KFC sign, accompanied by The Sundays' tune Summertime and the words: "It's you and me in the summertime." They also added the caption: "Oddly satisfying. Is this a sign?". An intrigued Instagram user speculated in response: " KFC inspired Chicken bake? Instead of creamy sauce in the current chicken bake it'll be KFC gravy? A KFC and gravy style bake? I'm invested."

Last week, Greggs revealed a slump in profits as it was knocked by hot weather and caution among shoppers over their finances. The Newcastle-based business revealed that pre-tax profits fell by 14.3% to £63.5 million for the half-year to June 28, compared with a year earlier. It said the first half of 2025 was impacted by 'challenging market footfall, more weather disruption than in 2024' and increased costs.
