Woolworths sends shoppers racing over the unexpected launch of sell-out item: 'I'm screaming and crying'

Woolworths has jumped on the pistachio bandwagon - surprising shoppers with the unexpected launch of the hugely popular nutty spread. The supermarket giant broke the news on social media that the hugely popular Pistachio Papi jars are set to hit shelves across Australia from June 16. 'We've noticed a real buzz around pistachio lately - it's popping up in everything from desserts and snacks to savoury dishes - so it's great to bring the popular Pistachio Papi spread to our customers this month,' a Woolworths spokesperson told FEMAIL. 'At Woolworths, we're always looking to introduce exciting new flavours and products that inspire our customers.' Fans of the brand will soon be able to add the Pistachio Papi Smooth Spread and Pistachio Papi Crunch Spread to their trolleys during their grocery shop. The news has sent sweet-toothed shoppers into a spin, with many struggling to contain their excitement over the launch. 'OMG this is HUGGGGEEEEE,' one said. 'Screaming and crying,' another revealed. 'OMG best day of my life,' one shared. 'BEST spread ever,' another raved. However, some suggested the launch of the pistachio spread may lead to an addiction, with one joking: 'This kind of easy access is going to be a problem'. Mark Abdelmalik, the Melbourne founder of Pistachio Papi, confirmed the news that his beloved brand will finally be landing in Woolworths this month. 'It's happening. Our mission at Pistachio Papi has always been to build a brand that makes you feel something while staying accessible to everyone. A true household name,' he said on Instagram. 'Almost a year ago, we began conversations with Woolworths to bring our beloved spread to shelves across the country. 'From day one, we've been driven by the love and support of our independent community and our loyal, cult-following fan base - creating a product that speaks for itself. Made by the people, for the people. 'On behalf of the entire Pistachio Papi team: thank you. Thank you for your endless support, your trust, and most of all - your patience. 'We're so excited to officially launch nationwide in all Woolworths stores.' It's unclear how much the pistachio spread will cost at Woolies - but they are currently selling for $19 a pop via its official website. Pistachio Papi is made in Italy before it's shipped directly to Melbourne for bottling. The sought-after nutty spread has sold out multiple times - with fans desperately searching high and low for the jars in recent months. Before making its supermarket debut, the jars were only available online or through its boutique stockists around the country. Over the months, the brand has been collaborating with big names - including Krispy Kreme and Yo-Chi - to bring out desserts showcasing the tasty pistachio spread. The Pistachio Overload Doughnuts from Krispy Kreme have been so popular that they were selling out by 10am every day at all Australian stores during their first launch back in February.

Cult pistachio spread ‘finally' lands at Woolworths

If you've spent any time on the foodie side of the internet lately, you'll have noticed the cult following around Pistachio Papi – the pistachio spread that's taken social media by storm. Like many, I've found myself lost in an algorithmic rabbit hole, endlessly scrolling through food creators' accounts as they taste-test this creamy, green-hued sensation. After being mesmerised by slow-motion dollops and ASMR cooking videos, I set out to find the viral spread – only to discover it's not exactly a staple on local supermarket shelves. Desperate, I considered heading to Yo-Chi and skipping the yoghurt altogether, and just filling my cup with Pistachio Papi – one of the few places you can get your hands on it outside Uber Eats or Amazon. But let's be honest, that might raise a few eyebrows. Well, pistachio fans, rejoice! Pistachio Papi is officially launching in Woolworths this month. The supermarket giant announced on social media this week that it will be stocking Pistachio Papi Crunchy Spread (180g) and Pistachio Papi Smooth Spread (200g) from June 16, both online and in stores nationwide. 'At Woolworths, we're always looking to introduce exciting new flavours and products that inspire our customers,' a Woolworths spokesperson told 'We've noticed a real buzz around pistachio lately – it's popping up in everything from desserts and snacks to savoury dishes – so it's great to bring the popular Pistachio Papi spread to our customers this month.' Fans were quick to celebrate the news. 'About time Woolies got on board pistachio spread,' said one eager shopper. 'FINALLY,' quipped another. Others predicted the spread would fly off the shelves: 'I already know the Pistachio Papi will be out of stock forever,' one person commented. When The Grocery Geek AU re-shared the news on Facebook, there was one burning question – the price. With a premium ingredient list boasting 16 per cent pistachios, Pistachio Papi doesn't come cheap. Online, the spread typically retails for $19 a jar, though Woolworths is yet to reveal its price. 'It's so goooood,' raved one fan. '$19 a pot though. I wonder if it'll be lower at Woolies'. Another agreed: 'Not cheap, but OMG it's so good'. This isn't Woolworths' first foray into pistachio mania. The supermarket has previously launched a Pistachio Cheesecake, which saw 80 per cent of stock sell out within three weeks, and an exclusive range of Messina gelato tubs, with Pistachio Praline emerging as the most popular flavour. And Woolies isn't the only retailer jumping on the pistachio bandwagon. Coles has also embraced the trend, recently launching the Coles Finest Hand Finished Pistachio Cake. The 1.2kg cake, which serves 18 and retails for $40, features a double-layered vanilla base filled and topped with pistachio cream cheese buttercream – and it's already earning rave reviews online. Food creator @nectoriouspapi described the buttercream as 'absolutely beautiful', adding, 'I could have a whole tub of that on its own'. Meanwhile, @jazhandmade 's office taste test saw all five participants rate it extremely highly.

Krispy Kreme brings back sell-out doughnuts - but you'll have to be quick: 'OMG I need it'

Krispy Kreme Australia has quietly relaunched a fan favourite doughnut after it sold out across stores earlier this year. Foodies are rushing to get their hands on the Pistachio Overload Doughnut in collaboration with Pistachio Papi - an Aussie spread. The treat is made with Krispy Kreme's signature fluffy doughnut, filled with creamy pistachio mousse, dipped in silky Pistachio Papi spread, sprinkled with caramelised hazelnuts, and finished with a decadent white chocolate drizzle. The doughnuts were sold popular during its first collaboration in February that they were selling out by 10am every day at all stores across the country. Those who missed out last time are encouraged to act swiftly as it's only available for two weeks until June 3 - or while stock lasts. However, the delicious treat is only available across stores in NSW, VIC, WA, and QLD. After sharing the news on social media, fans marvelled over the return of the pistachio-flavoured doughnut. 'Omg need!' one wrote. 'I gained 2kg from eating so much of these last time,' another added. 'I can't wait!' another said on Instagram. However, not everyone was impressed by the decision to only offer the doughnuts for a limited time and exclude certain locations. 'Why keep making it a limited edition? Why not sell it everyday? People like me can't travel to buy one,' one asked. 'What about South Australia?' another said. Pistachio Papi Founder, Mark Abdelmalik said: 'The response from Aussies to our first Pistachio Papi x Krispy Kreme collaboration was absolutely incredible! 'And honestly, how could we not do this again? The people wanted more, so we had to give the people what they wanted!' Krispy Kreme's Marketing Manager, Laura Pashby added: 'At Krispy Kreme, we're committed to creating innovative, joy-filled experiences for our fans. We are extremely grateful for all the love and support during our first launch.'

Popular doughnut returns after selling out

A viral doughnut that sold out within hours of hitting shelves is coming back. Krispy Kreme launched a collaboration with Pistachio Papi – an Australian-owned and Italian-made nut spread – back in February, sending fans into a tailspin with the news. The sweet treat quickly sold out in most stores on day one, and appeared to be completely wipes off shelves by day two. But now, it can be revealed that customers in New South Wales, Victoria, Western Australia and Queensland can nab the Pistachio Overload Doughnut from May 21 until June 4. Laura Pashby, marketing manager at Krispy Kreme ANZ, said the previous collab was an 'absolute hit'. 'The response last time was incredible — we had fans flooding our inboxes asking (begging!) for it to return. So bringing it back was a no-brainer,' she said. 'The Pistachio Overload Doughnut has become one of our most-loved limited-time treats. This time around, we've ramped up production nationwide with extra hands on deck, so more Aussies can get a taste before it's gone.' It's also the first time that customers in WA will get to try the green glazed pastry — as well as our friends in New Zealand. Ms Pashby said she believed the doughnut took off because of the pistachio hype, which is in part due to the viral Dubai chocolate craze. Mark Abdelmalik, the founder of Pistachio Papi, said doing the collaboration again was a no-brainer. The 'people wanted more, so we had to give the people what they wanted,' he said. 'We've been hearing from fans non-stop, asking for its return, and we're beyond excited to work with the fabulous Krispy Kreme team again to make this nutty goodness a dream come true. 'We know Aussies are going to fall in love with this pistachio overload all over again.' In February, fans were desperate to get their hands on the doughnut and shared their struggles on social media, with TikTok user @thecakeupartist posting a video of herself in the drive-through at Krispy Kreme asking for two of them. 'We don't have that one unfortunately, we've sold out,' the worker can be heard explaining. She said she was going to 'cry' after being told, but stressed she would try again another day. Another store resorted to putting a sign on the box at the drive-through to inform customers it had sold out of the treat. Mr Abdelamlik revealed he had been inundated with messages about the in-demand product in a series of Instagram Stories – with one store already sold out by 8:40am on one of the days. Sharing a number of messages from frustrated shoppers, Mr Abdelmalik said it was 'ridiculous' that people were unable to get their hands on the sought-after item. 'Mate, Krispy Kreme Sydney airport was so underprepared. They said they got about 100 phone calls and they don't have any. I was in the line in and about five people came after me came. I've just rocked up and there's nothing there,' one text read. Another said: 'Fountain Gate was so quick.' One added: 'They sold out sooo quickly, by 8am Fawkner were sold out. They said they only get limited stock.'
