Sydney Sweeney's Jeans Ad Gets a New Rival Amid Controversy
Sydney Sweeney's latest American Eagle ad has been at the center of numerous debates online, but now, another superstar has entered it. As critics question the alleged double standards in fashion advertising, a certain Levi's collaboration resurfaces, drawing comparisons to Sweeney's controversial ad. Beyoncé debuts Levi's jeans ad amid Sydney Sweeney's American Eagle controversy Sydney Sweeney recently fronted American Eagle's new denim campaign, featuring seven different jean styles. However, the tagline 'Sydney Sweeney has great jeans' triggered massive backlash, with some accusing the brand of promoting eugenics due to the play on words 'jeans' vs. 'genes.' Amid the uproar, social media users have revisited Beyoncé's Levi's campaign. The Grammy-winning artist starred in the second chapter of Levi's 'Reimagine' campaign, titled 'Pool Hall,' where she rocked several head-to-toe denim looks like one in a strappy vest, an embroidered jacket, and a pair of Levi's jeans. Fans quickly noted the similarities between the two ads, with some calling out perceived double standards. 'Beyoncé did a Levi's Jeans Ad, and there was no outrage. She was literally pulling her pants out at laundry mat. But Sydney Sweeney does something similar and there's a backlash?! one user posted on X (formerly Twitter). Others praised both stars, with one fan writing, 'My 'contrarian' take is that Beyoncé and Sweeney are both gorgeous women with great genes and I'm happy to see aspirational beauty in ads.' For those unaware, Beyoncé's company, Parkwood Entertainment, dropped 'Chapter 4: The Denim Cowboy,' a music video-style commercial featuring the singer as a pool shark in layered denim outfits. The ad also teased her song 'Levii's Jeans,' further fueling excitement among fans. The ad opens with Beyoncé on horseback and ends with her riding off on a motorcycle, leading fans to speculate that her upcoming 'Act III' album could be rock-inspired. Given her recent Tina Turner-esque outfits during the Cowboy Carter Tour, the theory isn't far-fetched. For now, Sweeney's campaign continues to face backlash, but Beyoncé's Levi's ad has largely avoided controversy. Did Beyoncé's Levi's ad take a dig at Sydney Sweeney's American Eagle jeans campaign?
Image credits: X Sydney Sweeney has been topping search charts and trending hashtags for several weeks now. The reason? Her much-viral and criticised ad campaign for American jeans brand American Eagle, which was released on July 23, 2025 and featured the 'Euphoria' actress in seven different denim looks. While the ad in itself might have rocked the world with Sweeney's sultry and bold looks, the tagline of "Sydney Sweeney has great jeans" managed to raise the eyes of not only the American netizens but also political leaders, with them arguing that the company was promoting eugenics and Sweeney was headlining the statement. Now, another name has been added to this Goblet of Fire, that of music's reigning queen, Beyoncé. A section of social media users has been comparing Sweeney's stint to that of the country singer's Levi's campaign that she did back in February. The collaboration promoted the second chapter of Beyoncé's and Levi's "Reimagine" campaign titled "Pool Hall." In the picture going viral across social media platforms, Beyonce can be seen in an all-denim avatar with an embroidered jacket, strappy vest and jeans, striking an eerily similar pose to Sweeney. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Elegant New Scooters For Seniors In 2024: The Prices May Surprise You Mobility Scooter | Search Ads Learn More Undo Netizens react to the comparison Image credits: X Ever since Beyoncé's ad went viral, people have also been targeting her for trying to "appropriate" American culture with her blonde hair. "Stop appropriating my culture, Beyonce," wrote a person on X. Others have been comparing the two in a positive and negative light. "Just going to leave this pic from Beyoncé Levi's campaign right here for those saying Sydney Sweeney with her blond hair/denim/sultry look is racist…" said a post on X. "Everything in this pic is fake, Sweeney's attributes are all hers," commented one defending Sweeney. "Beyoncé has basically done a Michael Jackson and lightened her skin to the point of being WHITE, and the blonde hair basically says she wants to be WHITE, not embrace her "blackness"," added another. Many in the comments section explained how the entire fiasco was being created by the Democrats to get favour from the people and create conversations.

Beyonce's Levi's Ad Apparently Takes A Dig At The Sydney Sweeney Jeans Campaign
Sydney Sweeney has found herself in the eye of the storm ever since she headlined American Eagle's new ad campaign. For context, on July 23, 2025 the flagship retail brand featured the Euphoria actress sporting seven different denim looks. However, it was the tagline saying 'Sydney Sweeney has great jeans' that sent the internet into a spiral, with many arguing that American Eagle was promoting eugenics. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Levi's (@levis) Amid this controversy, another name has been dragged into discourse. A certain section of social media users is comparing Sydney Sweeney 's stint to Beyoncé 's Levi's campaign. Back in February, the Grammy-winning singer collaborated with the denim powerhouse, promoting the second chapter of Beyoncé's and Levi's " Reimagine" campaign titled " Pool Hall." In the picture, which is currently doing the rounds on X, Beyonce can be seen rocking a denim-on-denim avatar. She wears a strappy vest, layering the fitted number with an embroidered jacket and, of course, a pair of jeans. Even her pose was strikingly similar to Sydney's Sweeney's American Eagle one. While some users found both the ads identical, a few differed in their opinion. "So Beyoncé can pose in Levi jeans and it's art… But when a white woman does it, it's a national crisis?" wrote one user as they shared a photo of the two ads side-by-side. Just going to leave this pic from Beyoncé Levi's campaign right here for those saying Sydney Sweeney with her blond hair/denim/sultry look is racist… — Nicole Saphier, MD (@NBSaphierMD) July 30, 2025 Coming back to Sydney Sweeney's American Eagle advertisement, it repeatedly played with the pun-intended words 'genes' and 'jeans,' leading to sharp criticism. In the video, the actress says, "Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair colour, personality and even eye colour," before the camera focuses on her deep blue eyes. "My jeans are blue," she added. View this post on Instagram A post shared by American Eagle (@americaneagle) Naysayers were quick to highlight that the tone-deaf texts and captions echoed themes of 'eugenics' and 'white supremacy'. Although it might not have been the intent, the resemblance was hard to ignore.

Beyonce has great jeans, too, and she's about to drop a new album
Sign up now: Get ST's newsletters delivered to your inbox The Denim Cowboy – a new 90-second ad for Levi's – opens with Beyonce on horseback. Beyonce and Levi's are teaming up for another rodeo – and possibly a new album. Parkwood Entertainment, the superstar singer's company, and Levi's dropped on Aug 5 a video that combined her three previous Levi's ads into a snazzy, 90-second commercial with a twist at the end that has the 'Beyhive' – Beyonce's massive fan base – buzzing loudly. The video, titled The Denim Cowboy, opens with Beyonce on horseback wearing a cropped white tee, Levi's jeans and a denim cowboy hat, with Levii's Jeans from her 2024 album Cowboy Carter as the soundtrack. It then threads together three previous Levi's ads – Launderette, Refrigerator and Pool Hall. Launderette had Beyonce slipping out of her jeans to have it washed with ice cubes at a laundromat. The camera then pans to a diner where Beyonce – in Daisy dukes and a mid-wash button-down – checks out after work and heads to a pool hall. Fans thought Pool Hall would close out this denim-heavy recap. But with 10 seconds to spare, Beyonce delivered another Easter egg-filled clip. Top stories Swipe. Select. Stay informed. The internet immediately lit up with frenzied speculations. Was this the curtain call for Cowboy Carter – and the first spark of her elusive Act III? Fans are convinced the bike swop hints at a pivot to rock 'n' roll. 'She comes in on a horse, leaves on a motorcycle… it's rock,' one fan wrote on X, summing up the collective thrill. 'Riding away on a motorcycle. C'mon Act 3!' another said. 'We ready to get off the horse and ride that bike.' 'The font. The horse. The diamonds. The bucket. The twins. The motorcycle,' wrote another fan. Beyonce released her eighth studio album Cowboy Carter on March 29, 2024. The country album put a spotlight on Black country artists and, in the process, broke records and made history on multiple fronts. Beyonce's Levi's campaign, meanwhile, was earlier compared with a controversial ad rolled out recently by another clothing company, American Eagle, that stirred up a debate over race and became fodder for a deeply divisive culture war between US conservatives and liberals. Starring the actress Sydney Sweeney, the ad featured a play on the homophones 'jeans' and 'genes'. Critics say because Sweeney is white, blonde and has blue eyes, and the tagline declares, 'Sydney Sweeney has great jeans', the ad is a sideways promotion of eugenics – which generally argues that the white race is superior to other races. Defenders insist that interpreting it this way smacks of 'woke' overreach, and that the ad is only trying to sell jeans that will look good on anyone. One post on X, seen more than 14 million times, has photos of Beyonce and Sweeney in the same pose and wearing jeans, with the caption: 'So Beyonce can pose in Levi's jeans and it's art… But when a white woman does it, it's a national crisis?'
