Sydney Sweeney's Jeans Ad Gets a New Rival Amid Controversy

Yahoo3 days ago
Sydney Sweeney's latest American Eagle ad has been at the center of numerous debates online, but now, another superstar has entered it. As critics question the alleged double standards in fashion advertising, a certain Levi's collaboration resurfaces, drawing comparisons to Sweeney's controversial ad.
Beyoncé debuts Levi's jeans ad amid Sydney Sweeney's American Eagle controversy
Sydney Sweeney recently fronted American Eagle's new denim campaign, featuring seven different jean styles. However, the tagline 'Sydney Sweeney has great jeans' triggered massive backlash, with some accusing the brand of promoting eugenics due to the play on words 'jeans' vs. 'genes.'
Amid the uproar, social media users have revisited Beyoncé's Levi's campaign. The Grammy-winning artist starred in the second chapter of Levi's 'Reimagine' campaign, titled 'Pool Hall,' where she rocked several head-to-toe denim looks like one in a strappy vest, an embroidered jacket, and a pair of Levi's jeans.
Fans quickly noted the similarities between the two ads, with some calling out perceived double standards. 'Beyoncé did a Levi's Jeans Ad, and there was no outrage. She was literally pulling her pants out at laundry mat. But Sydney Sweeney does something similar and there's a backlash?! one user posted on X (formerly Twitter).
Others praised both stars, with one fan writing, 'My 'contrarian' take is that Beyoncé and Sweeney are both gorgeous women with great genes and I'm happy to see aspirational beauty in ads.'
For those unaware, Beyoncé's company, Parkwood Entertainment, dropped 'Chapter 4: The Denim Cowboy,' a music video-style commercial featuring the singer as a pool shark in layered denim outfits. The ad also teased her song 'Levii's Jeans,' further fueling excitement among fans.
The ad opens with Beyoncé on horseback and ends with her riding off on a motorcycle, leading fans to speculate that her upcoming 'Act III' album could be rock-inspired. Given her recent Tina Turner-esque outfits during the Cowboy Carter Tour, the theory isn't far-fetched.
For now, Sweeney's campaign continues to face backlash, but Beyoncé's Levi's ad has largely avoided controversy.

Kevin Durant trolls Thunder fans after championship: 'bout time they win one'

Already dealing with the NBA fanning flames, Kevin Durant dumped gallons of gasoline. The Oklahoma City Thunder's Opening Night ring ceremony received an extra kick to it. They will host the Houston Rockets, which means the future Hall-of-Famer's attendance will make it even sweeter. Since the 2025-26 season opener was announced, there's been online chatter on how the OKC crowd should conduct itself with Durant's presence. Does he still warrant boos nearly a decade since his ugly 2016 departure? Or does a championship finally let fans fully move on? Well, Durant made that choice pretty easy. He spent the early hours of Sunday morning going back and forth with several social media users on X, formerly known as Twitter. Every year, you're guaranteed a few social media outbursts from the 36-year-old. His chronic online usage is what seperates him from other NBA superstars. And, in my opinion, more of fun guy to root for and against. Spoiling NBA fans with a drama-filled Sunday amid a content desert, Durant leaned into his villain gimmick against Thunder fans. No love lost between those two parties still. When asked about how he felt with his upcoming presence during OKC's championship celebration, he fired back. Durant wrote: "Finally. It's been 10 years, bout time they win one lmaooo" Finally. It's been 10 years, bout time they win one lmaooo That enough would grab headlines. But Durant kept going. When one Thunder fan claimed Durant doesn't need to be disrespectful to them after they won the championship, he said it was part of the fun and games that comes with following the NBA. Durant wrote: "My god, talk a little s--t back. It's not that serious" My god, talk a little shit back. It's not that serious Of course, all this stems from Durant's departure. He shocked the NBA world when he joined the Golden State Warriors. It took the Thunder nearly a decade to return to the spot they were at when he last played for them. Rehashing his controversial decision to leave, he claims zero regrets on the move. Even though he immediately won two championships with Golden State, the discourse around him remains toxic. Durant wrote: "You're right, I care more about me than I care about your fanbase. You caught me lmao." Later on, he pulled the nihilist card and said championships are championships. How fans feel right now about him is going to change the longer time passes. Durant wrote: "We all gon die and so much time gon pass that people won't even remember anything from this era of the world. So who cares" You're right, I care more about me than I care about your fanbase. You caught me lmao. We all gon die and so much time gon pass that people won't even remember anything from this era of the world. So who cares While some NBA fans might roll their eyes at this junkfood-level TV drama, you gotta love it if you're the NBA. The schedule-makers knew what they were doing when they penciled in Durant and the Rockets as the Thunder's Opening Night opponent. Now, Durant's combativeness makes it an even jucier storyline. It also gives August a few drops of content in what is otherwise the driest part of the league's calendar when everybody is on vacation for the next two months. The Durant and Thunder fans anomosity has been one of the hotter rivalries the last decade. It remains so even with both sides tasting championship champage since their divorce.

Originally appeared on E! Online is enjoying some quality time with his son . The 'Daisies' singer shared a glimpse into his sweet bond with his and 's 11-month-old in an August 9 Instagram carousel, just weeks before celebrating his 1st birthday. In one photo, the Grammy winner can be seen looking surprised as baby Jack blocks his face with his foot. The following snap shows the father-son duo snuggled up on the couch, with Justin showing off his son's golden locks before sweetly planting a kiss on his head. And after fans got a glimpse of the adorable post, they were quick to jump in the comments section to gush over the pics and point out that Jack's blonde hair already signals that he's Justin's mini-me. After all, Justin sported a full head of blonde hair himself when he was younger. 'You can just tell,' one user wrote in the comments, 'Jack is Justin's double.' More from E! Online Reba McEntire's Son Shares Emotional Tribute to Brother Brandon Blackstock After His Death Malcolm-Jamal Warner's Mom Breaks Silence on "Suddenness" of His Tragic Death Princess Anne Debuts New Hair Look for First Time in 50 Years in 75th Birthday Photo The carousel of images serves as the latest snapshot into Justin's bond with baby Jack, as fans previously saw him steal the show during his dad's new music video for his song 'Yukon.' Directed by Cole Bennett, boyfriend of Hailey's BFF Camila Morrone, the black-and-white visuals—released on Aug. 5—featured the 11-month-old on a family cruise with his parents. In one scene, Jack and his mom took a dip in the water during a visit to the beach, while the family of three snuggled on the deck of a boat in another frame. A third shot showed Justin sweetly kissing his son's toes as the two basked in the sun together. At another point in the video, Justin, 31, and Hailey, 28, could be seen embracing after taking a swim. But while they haven't been shy about sharing glimpses into their romance over the years, the couple—who tied the knot in 2018—has endured their fair share of breakup rumors. And for the Rhode Skin founder, it was especially difficult to deal with bogus divorce rumors immediately after becoming a new mom. 'Being postpartum is the most sensitive time I've ever gone through in my life, and learning a new version of myself is very difficult,' Hailey told Vogue in May. 'And to be doing that all the while going on the internet every day and people being like, 'They're getting divorced' and 'they're this' and 'they're not happy.'" 'And that's the thing: I have a real life," she added. "My real life is that I get to wake up to my beautiful family and my son and my friends and I have people that know me and love me and I love them."
