Human remains found washed up on popular Scots beach as cops launch urgent probe

HUMAN remains washed up on a Scots beach with a "leg" reportedly seen on the shore. The grim discovery was made last Tuesday, June 10, on Prestwick Beach in Ayrshire. 1 Cops were called to the scene following reports that human remains had been found at the popular beach. One witness told The Scottish Sun: "I was walking along the beach early on Tuesday morning when I came across a leg bone. "It was buried under some seaweed. It was just a bone with the sock and shoe still on it." Police are continuing to probe the incident in order to establish the full circumstances. It is not yet known whether the remains belong to a man or woman, or how long they may have been in the water. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: 'Around 10.45am on Tuesday, 10 June, 2025, we received a report that human remains had been discovered on Prestwick Beach. 'Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.' Elsewhere, a major update has been issued on the search for a passenger feared to have fallen overboard from a Scots ferry. A large-scale police and coastguard rescue mission was launched yesterday afternoon in the Firth of Clyde. Concerns were raised amid claims that a customer fell from a boat. It is reported to have happened while the Western Ferries service was travelling between Dunoon, Argyll, and Gourock in Inverclyde. A 64-year-old man was reported missing from the ferry at around 1.40pm on Sunday.
