'Denise Welch made me buy this £49 M&S jacket that's perfect for summer layering'
The Loose Women panellist is best known for her acting and presenting roles, but one of her recent outfits cemented her name on the list of daytime TV fashion icons If you'd asked me last month to name my daytime fashion inspirations, I'd likely have reeled off the usual suspects - Frankie Bridge, Cat Deeley or Rochelle Humes. Denise Welch probably wouldn't have been the first name that comes to mind, but appearing on a June episode of Loose Women, the actress was seen sporting a piece that I instantly had to track down. The 67-year-old donned the Pure Cotton Striped Tie Front Shacket from M&S's Per Una collection, which happens to be under £50. When I checked online for stock, it had completely sold out, but luckily I managed to get my hands on it in store. Lucky for shoppers, it's since been restocked and is available in most sizes. Now, I really dislike the word shacket. It gives me the same visceral reaction others get to words like 'moist'. However, while the word once triggered fashion fatigue, it really is the best way to describe this blouse-come-layering-piece. Priced at £49.50, the lightweight jacket is made from 100% cotton in an oversized, boxy fit. It's lightweight enough to be worn alone as a blouse, but heavy enough to wear as a jacket without it being flimsy. It boasts long sleeves and a collared V-neckline, complete with three tie front closures for an on-trend look. This design detail is one that won't be going out of style anytime soon, either, which means shoppers can wear it year-round. However, not everyone has been a fan of the trend. On the M&S jacket, one shopper commented: 'Who needs such fussy ties to close this top? This season seems full of them.' That said, others have left five star reviews, complimenting the shacket's 'good quality' and 'comfortable' feel. One wrote: 'The item was made of good quality fabric with an unusual closure but it was large. I usually take 18/20 and even the 16 was loose.' Another said: 'Great quality and design, comfortable to wear was a little unsure as shacket as have purchased one before and not altogether sold on these as really was not one thing or another but I would say this is a heavy denim shirt and a good spring top very intend with the tie front.' If the M&S tie-front shacket has whet your appetite for a new denim staple, but isn't quite for you, Boden's Denim Frill Collar Jacket costs £119 and is channeling Parisian vibes. The feminine ruffles are a dreamy touch that set it apart from other denim pieces on the high street. Alternatively, this ASOS DESIGN denim rugby top is on sale from £36 to £23.50. It has that same revere collar silhouette, but is ideal for wearing solo, accessorised with a satin neck tie. As for the M&S jacket, I paired it with the matching pinstripe jeans, however, I was a little bit let down by them. The quality and cut were spot on, but they appear to be a touch lighter than the top, and while most people wouldn't notice, it does bug me a little bit. It doesn't matter when wearing them as separates, but when opting for the full co-ord look, it would have been better if they were exactly the same shade. Another slight downside about the top is that the ties do occasionally need tightening throughout the day, but that's a minor inconvenience and wouldn't stop me from wearing it - especially considering how many compliments it's earned me. So while Denise Welch being a style icon may not have been on my 2025 bingo card, I must give credit where it's due because I haven't been able to stop wearing this jacket since I bought it. It's currently available in sizes 8-22 online, though some additional sizes could be found in store. It is roomy, so if you enjoy an oversized fit, I'd go for your usual size, but for a snugger silhouette, many will be able to afford sizing down.

New £12 Dunelm duvet cover is 'cool in summer' and comes in 37 colours

With over 30 colours to choose from, shoppers will easily be able to find the right cover for them. The Pure Cotton Plain Dye Duvet Cover starts at £12 for a single and goes up to £34 for a super king. Those with a double bed will need to pay £22, while a king size is priced at £29. This 180 thread count duvet cover is described as 'comfortable', 'soft' and 'cooling' for the summer months, reports the Liverpool Echo. As the cover is made from 100 per cent cotton, it is said to be breathable to lay under even in warmer weather. Finished off with a button fastening to securely close the duvet cover, it is also said to come with a five-year guarantee. Shoppers have 37 colours to choose from, including natural, mustard, rhubarb, seafoam, charcoal, black and butterscotch. However, shoppers need to be aware that Dunelm is selling the duvet cover without any pillowcases, meaning shoppers will need to buy them separately. However, this does mean shoppers can choose the pillowcase style they prefer. Shoppers can choose between either the Pure Cotton Standard Pillowcase or the Pure Cotton Oxford Pillowcase - both of which are priced at £7. Another popular bedding set on Dunelm is the Fogarty Soft Touch Duvet Cover and Pillowcase Set. Priced between £7.50 and £30, this set is available in 16 colours. Made with a super soft and breathable microfiber polyester that has been recycled, this bedding is finished off with a secure button closure. Alternatively, Next is selling the Cotton Rich Plain Duvet Cover and Pillowcase Set for between £18 to £45. Made with 80 per cent cotton and 20 per cent recycled polyester, this set is said to provide both comfort and softness. Shoppers also have 19 colours to choose from. Back to the Pure Cotton Duvet, this simple cover currently boasts a 4.2 star rating from nearly 500 shoppers. Many reviewers gushed over the colour and feel of the cover, however some were a bit peeved that the pillowcases weren't included. One happy shopper said: "Perfect colour addition to my room after struggling to find a suitable duvet. Wanted 100% cotton and price is good." With another adding: "Soft, breathable, and luxuriously comfortable—100% cotton bedding feels like a dream. It keeps you cool in summer and cozy in winter, with a natural, gentle touch on the skin. "Durable and easy to care for, it's a timeless choice that transforms any bedroom into a restful retreat. Highly recommend!" However, one shopper grumbled: "Love the colour and the material. It doesn't come with pillowcases though - you have to buy these separately. Washes fine." While another reviewer added on: "Love the colour, but when washed, a lot of static." Despite this, a third five-star reviewer wrote: "Cool, soft and comfortable, quality feel. Washes well and easy to iron." With a fourth tacking on: "Great material, very soft and comfortable. Next shoppers have been praising a "comfortable" holiday dress that was also called "very flattering" and is made from a lightweight material that "keeps you cool" in the heat. It's proved so popular with shoppers that people have gone back to buy multiple colours. The Twist Short Sleeved T-Shirt Summer Dress starts from €34.50. It is available in sizes 6 to 26 as well as having both petite and tall fitting options to make sure the dress fits most body types perfectly, reports The Mirror. It comes in six different style options, with plain colours including black, khaki green, plum purple and red (all €34.50). Next also offers two versions with a pattern, including a white and black print (€38) and a navy blue with white striped version (€39). Similar styles are available at other stores - such as the M&S Pure Cotton Striped Mini T-Shirt Dress (€34 -available in store but currently not available to order online in Ireland), Wallis Premium Jersey T-shirt Dress (via Debenhams from €34.50) or New Look's Black Cotton T-Shirt Mini Dress (€17). The most popular (based on those ratings) was the khaki green version, however, shoppers loved these dresses so much that a few bought multiple styles. One shopper said: "This is a dress that will never date and will be useful for many occasions. It is comfortable to wear, and the twisted front makes it a bit more interesting." Another added: "Excellent buy. Material good quality and a very flattering style."
