'Denise Welch made me buy this £49 M&S jacket that's perfect for summer layering'
If you'd asked me last month to name my daytime fashion inspirations, I'd likely have reeled off the usual suspects - Frankie Bridge, Cat Deeley or Rochelle Humes. Denise Welch probably wouldn't have been the first name that comes to mind, but appearing on a June episode of Loose Women, the actress was seen sporting a piece that I instantly had to track down.
The 67-year-old donned the Pure Cotton Striped Tie Front Shacket from M&S's Per Una collection, which happens to be under £50. When I checked online for stock, it had completely sold out, but luckily I managed to get my hands on it in store. Lucky for shoppers, it's since been restocked and is available in most sizes.
Now, I really dislike the word shacket. It gives me the same visceral reaction others get to words like 'moist'. However, while the word once triggered fashion fatigue, it really is the best way to describe this blouse-come-layering-piece.
Priced at £49.50, the lightweight jacket is made from 100% cotton in an oversized, boxy fit. It's lightweight enough to be worn alone as a blouse, but heavy enough to wear as a jacket without it being flimsy.
It boasts long sleeves and a collared V-neckline, complete with three tie front closures for an on-trend look. This design detail is one that won't be going out of style anytime soon, either, which means shoppers can wear it year-round.
However, not everyone has been a fan of the trend. On the M&S jacket, one shopper commented: 'Who needs such fussy ties to close this top? This season seems full of them.'
That said, others have left five star reviews, complimenting the shacket's 'good quality' and 'comfortable' feel. One wrote: 'The item was made of good quality fabric with an unusual closure but it was large. I usually take 18/20 and even the 16 was loose.'
Another said: 'Great quality and design, comfortable to wear was a little unsure as shacket as have purchased one before and not altogether sold on these as really was not one thing or another but I would say this is a heavy denim shirt and a good spring top very intend with the tie front.'
If the M&S tie-front shacket has whet your appetite for a new denim staple, but isn't quite for you, Boden's Denim Frill Collar Jacket costs £119 and is channeling Parisian vibes. The feminine ruffles are a dreamy touch that set it apart from other denim pieces on the high street.
Alternatively, this ASOS DESIGN denim rugby top is on sale from £36 to £23.50. It has that same revere collar silhouette, but is ideal for wearing solo, accessorised with a satin neck tie.
As for the M&S jacket, I paired it with the matching pinstripe jeans, however, I was a little bit let down by them. The quality and cut were spot on, but they appear to be a touch lighter than the top, and while most people wouldn't notice, it does bug me a little bit. It doesn't matter when wearing them as separates, but when opting for the full co-ord look, it would have been better if they were exactly the same shade.
Another slight downside about the top is that the ties do occasionally need tightening throughout the day, but that's a minor inconvenience and wouldn't stop me from wearing it - especially considering how many compliments it's earned me.
So while Denise Welch being a style icon may not have been on my 2025 bingo card, I must give credit where it's due because I haven't been able to stop wearing this jacket since I bought it. It's currently available in sizes 8-22 online, though some additional sizes could be found in store. It is roomy, so if you enjoy an oversized fit, I'd go for your usual size, but for a snugger silhouette, many will be able to afford sizing down.

Patrick Kielty's new Cat Deeley fear has him in a 'very dark place'
Insiders close to Patrick Kielty have revealed his biggest fear following his split with Cat Deeley that could leave him in a 'very dark place'. Earlier this week, the two presenters announced their separation after more than a decade of marriage. Patrick, 54, who earns £215,000 a year as presenter of The Late Late Show, and Cat, 48, who hosts This Morning alongside Ben Shepard, gave a joint statement together. The couple said: 'We have taken the decision to end our marriage and are now separated. There is no other party involved. 'We will continue to be united as loving parents to our children and would therefore kindly ask for our family privacy to be respected. There will be no further comment.' Now, however, sources near to Patrick have revealed his fear that Cat could move back to the US, where the family previously lived, and she could taketheir children with her. A source told MailOnline: 'Everyone is worried about Paddy. The fear is that Cat will go back to America with the little ones. That will leave him in a very dark place.' Following the news that Lorraine and Loose Women's hours have been cut, the source went on to add: 'Cat's time on This Morning has not been a failure, but it has hardly been a roaring success. 'It is a job which puts her under so much scrutiny, day-in and day-out, and unlike most British presenters she has plenty more lucrative options to choose from in the States. 'There is concern that all of this family drama could lead her to walk away.' Cat and Patrick lived in Los Angeles for more than 14 years, where Cat presented So You Think You Can Dance, which she was reportedly paid £43,000 an episode. Earlier this year, it was revealed why Cat did not attend the funeral of Patrick's mother in County Down, Northern Ireland. The presenter said she wanted to be there for her sons Milo, nine, and James, seven, before and after they finished school as they grieved the loss of their grandmother. Her representative confirmed to MailOnline: 'Cat remained at home to be there for her two young children before and after school on this very sad day.' The TV stars met while presenting Fame Academy together on the BBC in 2003, at which time Cat was married to her ex-husband Mark Whelan. Their professional relationship quickly evolved into a personal one, and they got married in September 2012 at an intimate ceremony in Rome. More Trending They also welcomed their son Milo in January 2016 and James in June 2018. In 2023, Patrick took over from Ryan Tubridy as the host of The Late Late Show on Ireland's RTE One channel in 2023 Cat was then unveiled as the new host of This Morning, alongside Shepard, in February 2024. Alex Jones' 'comfy and flattering' Boden trousers are 'selling like hot cakes'
The One Show's Alex Jones shows how to style a yellow-gold pair of Boden trousers for summer Alex Jones has once again found the perfect in-between of comfort and style with her latest on-screen look– and it's already causing a stir among fans. Stepping out on The One Show, the presenter opted for a bold but surprisingly wearable pair of sunshine-yellow trousers from Boden, and viewers must have been quick to note them because Boden says they're "selling like hot cakes" The Primrose Patch Pocket Trousers in the shade Golden Rye, £90, have been dubbed 'comfy and flattering' by shoppers, who are keen to pick them up in multiple colourways. It's easy to see why. With their relaxed, straight-leg silhouette and structured patch pockets, the trousers are both laid-back and smart. The high waist gives shape, while the breathable cotton blend makes them ideal for warm weather. Alex paired them with a cropped, dark-wash denim jacket that brings a clever balance to the bold hue. Her jacket is believed to be a past-season Mango buy, but the new season version, complete with boxy cut and silver buttons, is almost identical and still in stock for £49.99 in plenty of sizes. While sunshine shades can sometimes be intimidating, Alex shows how a strong colour choice can anchor an otherwise simple outfit. Her choice to keep the rest of the look pared-back (minimal accessories and fresh make-up) is what makes the trousers pop rather than overwhelm. We do love how she added a bit more flair to the outfit by accessorizing with a killer pair of leopard print heels – the perfect print to flatter the golden yellow shade of the trousers. With a price tag of £90 and sizes selling fast, it's clear that Alex's influence extends well beyond the TV sofa. Plus, if you act fast, you can get 15% off the trousers by using the discount code W7CX, which works on new styles on Boden's website. That brings Alex's buy down to a slightly more reasonable £76.50. Elsewhere in outfit news from our favourite presenters, Rochelle Humes stepped out on Wednesday morning's This Morning show wearing a khaki peplum top with a suede midi skirt and some brown open-toe mules. A neutral colour palette has become a staple of Rochelle's signature look, and her latest outfit was no exception. We've hunted down her top as the Khaki Sleeveless Tie Back Corset Top from high-street favourite River Island. It also comes in brown and white, both of which would effortlessly slot into Rochelle's wardrobe.
