Admissions open for ITI courses in Pudukottai, Viralimalai, and Keeranur
Applications to the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Pudukottai, Viralimalai, and Keeranur are open. The courses will begin in August. Students will receive free bicycles, uniforms, textbooks, and bus passes. Women and men will receive a monthly stipend of ₹1,000 under the Puthumai Penn and Naan Puthalvan schemes, respectively. They will be provided with free meals and accommodation. A pass in Class 8, 10, or 12 is the minimum eligibility criteria for admission, read an official press release. Children return to school after summer vacation; Speaker, Collector receive students with free notebooks, uniform
Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker M. Appavu on Monday received the students of Valliyoor Government Higher Secondary School with notebooks and free uniforms as they returned to their school after the summer vacation. He said over two lakh students in the 1,195 government and government-aided schools in the district would receive the free notebooks and uniforms. Since the Tamil Nadu Government was keen on eradicating dropouts and encouraging the children to pursue their higher education after passing Plus Two, various welfare schemes like 'Puthumai Penn' and 'Thamizh Puthalvan' schemes had been introduced for giving the monthly assistance of ₹1,000 to them. Free breakfast scheme had been implemented in the government and the government-aided schools. 'Smart Classrooms' were being created in all government schools to make teaching and learning easier. Spoken English class had become part of the government schools. 'The children, especially the students from rural poor families, should make use of these welfare schemes to academically excel and come-up in life,' the Speaker said. District Collector R. Sukumar appealed to the children to respect and abide by the teachers and concentrate only on their studies. Chief Educational Officer M. Sivakumar and District Educational Officer Sai Subbulakshmi were present. Teachers of various schools received their students, especially the primary school children, returning to the school after the vacation with chocolates, flowers and sandal paste.

Welfare schemes, development works reviewed in Tenkasi district
District Monitoring Officer P. Shankar reviewed the progress of ongoing development works and the implementation of welfare schemes on Friday. At the meeting held in the presence of Collector A.K. Kamal Kishore, the implementation of welfare schemes like 'Naan Mudhalvan,' 'Puthumai Penn,' 'Thamizh Puthalvan,' giving assistance for renovating old houses, free housing scheme, giving patta to poor families living on government poramboke land for more than 10 years, drinking water supply in rural areas, breakfast scheme in schools, etc., were reviewed. The meeting also reviewed the progress of ongoing renovation work at Main Falls cottages in Courtallam, desilting of Sembuli Channel in Vallam, Kalangaatha Kandi Channel in Shencottai, two irrigation tanks in Karkudi, additional classroom buildings in Puliyarai and the construction of new buildings in the gynaecology and paediatrics ward in Tenkasi Government Hospital. The Monitoring Officer also handed over battery-operated wheelchairs to two differently abled beneficiaries after the review meeting. Superintendent of Police S. Aravind, District Revenue Officer S. Jayachandran and senior officials from various departments participated in the meeting.

Plus Two results: Virudhunagar district slips to 7th rank in overall pass percentage
Despite an identical pass percentage of 96.64% in the Plus Two examination for the second consecutive year, Virudhunagar district slipped to 7th rank in overall pass percentage. This is one rank below the 2024 results in which the district had secured 6th position in the State. The State average in overall pass percentage this year has been 95.03%. Out of the 21,778 students, belonging to 221 higher secondary schools, who were issued hall tickets for the examination, only 21,046 of them passed out when the results were published on Thursday. Among the successful students were 11,433 girls (11,686 who had appeared) and 9,613 boys (10,092). As usual, the girls had out-performed the boys what with 97.84% of girls and only 95.25% boys had passed out in the district. A statement from the Chief Educational Officer said that a total of 74 higher secondary schools -- 13 Government schools, 19 aided schools and 42 private schools -- in the district had secured 100% pass percentage. Only 93.17% of the students who had appeared from 101 Government Higher Secondary Schools had passed out. One student each had secured centum marks in Tamil and English. The centums bagged by students of the district in other subjects is Physics 8, Chemistry 22, Mathematics 43, Computer Science 251, Biology 1, Botany 17, Zoology 2, History 10, Economic 19, Accountancy 51, Commerce 55, Geography 1, Business Mathematics 12, Computer Application 106, Office Management 1 and French 2. Admission in Government colleges Students of Government and Government-aided schools who had passed out of Plus Two, can apply for admission in under-graduation courses in Government Arts and Science Colleges through till May 27. In a statement, Virudhunagar Collector V. P. Jeyaseelan said that Government Arts and Science Colleges were functioning in Srivilliputtur, Sivakasi, Sattur, Aruppukottai and Tiruchuli in the district. The students could get monthly educational assistance of ₹1,000 under Puthumai Penn and Tamil Puthalvan schemes.

Udhayanidhi lays foundation for Rs 82 crore projects; inaugurates hockey stadium work in Coimbatore
COIMBATORE: Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin laid the foundation stone for 132 new projects worth Rs 82.14 crore including the construction of a 6,500-sqm international standard hockey stadium with artificial turf at a cost of Rs 9.67 crore in Coimbatore on Sunday. At an event held in RS Puram, he also inaugurated 54 completed projects worth Rs 29.99 crore and distributed welfare assistance worth Rs 239.41 crore to 25,024 beneficiaries. Speaking at the event, Udhayanidhi said the DMK government has been implementing welfare schemes for all sections of society. 'Women have made over 700 crore free trips using Vidiyal Payanam scheme. Under Puthumai Penn scheme, a monthly assistance of Rs 1,000 is provided to 3.5 lakh women,' Udhayanidhi said. He added that as per the announcement made by Chief Minister MK Stalin, applications will be collected from women who have been left out of the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai scheme from July. Udhayanidhi also inaugurated a Rs 10.36-crore automatic paneer plant with a production capacity of two tonnes per day at the Coimbatore District Cooperative Milk Producers Union. He distributed welfare assistance worth Rs 13.73 crore to 2,240 members of women self-help groups. Minister for Electricity V Senthil Balaji (who later resigned) and Minster for Human Resources Management Kayalvizhi Selvaraj were present.
