MLFF toll system to proceed without government spending

KUALA LUMPUR: The implementation of the Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) toll collection system will not involve any financial implications for the government, Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said. He said the initiative is part of a new direction set by the Works Ministry (KKR), which was presented to the Cabinet on July 25. Ahmad said this also allows related service provider companies to negotiate and deal directly with the 33 existing highway concession companies on a business-to-business (B2B) basis to enable its implementation. 'For example, PNB Prolintas is currently carrying out proof of concept, testing or trials at the Alam Impian Toll Plaza on the Kemuning–Shah Alam Expressway (LKSA) in collaboration with Touch 'n Go and CIMB. They have installed gantries and equipment to test the implementation of MLFF at the location,' he said during the question-and-answer session in the Dewan Rakyat today. He was responding to a question from Shaharizukirnain Abd Kadir (PN-Setiu) regarding the status of the MLFF toll collection system targeted for 2025, as well as improvements such as the use of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) to ensure the effectiveness of the new system. - Bernama -- More to come

Cost of living, MLFF among key issues in Parliament today

KUALA LUMPUR: Government efforts to ease the cost of living, the implementation of the Multi Lane Free Flow (MLFF) toll system, and the issue of reciprocal tariffs imposed by the United States on Malaysia are among the key matters scheduled for discussion in the Dewan Rakyat sitting today. According to the Order Paper published on the Parliament's website, during the question-and-answer session, Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (PN-Bukit Gantang) will ask the Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living to state the measures taken by the National Action Council on Cost of Living (NACCOL) to help reduce the cost of living. Shaharizukirnain Abd Kadir (PN-Setiu) will pose a question to the Works Minister on the status of MLFF toll collection implementation, besides seeking clarification on improvements to systems such as Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) to ensure the new system's effectiveness. Datuk Seri Dr Wee Jeck Seng (BN-Tanjung Piai) will raise a question to the Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry regarding the status and effectiveness of negotiations between Malaysia and the United States on the implementation of reciprocal tariffs. He also asked for government assurances that the move would not adversely affect trade, supply chains or the small and medium enterprise (SME) sector in Malaysia. Yeo Bee Yin (PH-Puchong) will question the Minister of Youth and Sports on key improvements introduced by the ministry in the National Youth Consultative Council and the significant proposals made by youths, as well as the ministry's efforts in conveying these proposals to the government. Mohd Nazri Abu Hassan (PN-Merbok), meanwhile, will ask the Minister of Housing and Local Government whether the ministry had allocated special provisions to state governments or related agencies to manage solid waste and clean up illegal dumping sites outside the jurisdiction of local authorities. Following the question session, the Dewan Rakyat will resume the debate on the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), which was tabled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last Thursday. The current Dewan Rakyat sitting takes place over 24 days until Aug 28. - Bernama

Indian Railways' Homegrown Safety Shield Kavach 4.0 Now Active On Delhi-Mumbai Route, Know More

Last Updated: Over 30,000 personnel have already been trained, and Kavach 4.0 is set to expand across the network within six years. Indian Railways has rolled out its most advanced railway safety system yet, Kavach 4.0, on the Mathura-Kota section of the busy Delhi-Mumbai route. This marks the first implementation of the new version and a big leap in train safety technology for the nation, as per Mint. What is Kavach 4.0? Kavach, which means 'armour" in Hindi, is an Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system designed and made entirely in India, aligning with the Atmanirbhar Bharat mission. How Does It Work? Kavach 4.0 uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags placed every kilometre along railway tracks and at signals to detect a train's exact location. The system includes telecom towers with optical fibre lines to ensure instant data exchange between trains and stations. Even in poor visibility conditions like fog, loco pilots won't have to rely on external signals. Instead, all vital information is displayed inside the train's cabin dashboard. What Makes It Special? Is It Already in Use? Over 4,000 km of tracks, 708 stations, and 1,107 locomotives have been equipped with Kavach. Indian Railways has also laid 5,856 km of fibre optic cable and built 619 telecom towers to support the system. What's Next? With more than 30,000 railway staff already trained, Indian Railways plans to expand Kavach 4.0 rapidly across the network in the next few years. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. 7,500 pilgrims leave for Amarnath yatra

Jammu: A fresh batch of over 7,500 pilgrims left here early Tuesday for the 3,880-metre-high cave shrine of Amarnath in south Kashmir Himalayas, officials said. The 38-day pilgrimage commenced on July 3 from the valley via the twin tracks — the traditional 48-km-long Nunwan-Pahalgam route in Anantnag district and the 14-km shorter but steeper Baltal route in Ganderbal district. The yatra will conclude on August 9. Over 94,000 pilgrims have paid obeisance at the shrine since the start of the yatra, they said. The seventh batch of 7,541 pilgrims, including 5,516 men and 1,765 women, left the Bhagwati Nagar base camp here in 309 vehicles for the twin base camps in Kashmir amid tight security arrangements between 2.55 am and 4.05 am, the officials said. The first pilgrim convoy, carrying 3,321 pilgrims in 148 vehicles, left for the shorter but steeper 14-km Baltal route in Ganderbal district, followed by the second convoy of 4,220 pilgrims in 161 vehicles who are undertaking the yatra via the 48-km traditional Pahalgam route in Anantnag district, they said. Since Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha flagged off the yatra in Jammu on July 2, a total of 47,902 pilgrims have left the Jammu base camp for the Valley. There is a huge rush at the counters for on-the-spot registration, with authorities increasing the number of counters to 15 from 12, as well as the daily quota to 4,100 to ease the rush. Over 4,000 devotees arrived in Jammu from various parts of the country to get themselves registered. More than 3.5 lakh people have registered online for the pilgrimage so far. Thirty-four accommodation centres have been set up across Jammu, and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags are being issued to the pilgrims. Twelve counters have been set up for on-the-spot registration.
