Cost of living, multi-lane free flow implementation and reciprocal tariff among focus at Parliament today
According to the Order Paper published on the Parliament's website, during the question-and-answer session, Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (PN-Bukit Gantang) will ask the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister to state the measures taken by the National Action Council on Cost of Living (Naccol) to help reduce the cost of living.
Shaharizukirnain Abd Kadir (PN-Setiu) will pose a question to the Works Minister on the status of MLFF toll collection implementation, besides seeking clarification on improvements to systems such as Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) to ensure the new system's effectiveness.
Datuk Seri Dr Wee Jeck Seng (BN-Tanjung Piai) will raise a question to the Investment, Trade and Industry Minister regarding the status and effectiveness of negotiations between Malaysia and the United States on the implementation of reciprocal tariffs. He also asked for government assurances that the move would not adversely affect trade, supply chains or the small and medium enterprise (SME) sector in Malaysia.
Yeo Bee Yin (PH-Puchong) will question the Youth and Sports Minister on key improvements introduced by the ministry in the National Youth Consultative Council and the significant proposals made by youths, as well as the ministry's efforts in conveying these proposals to the government.
Mohd Nazri Abu Hassan (PN-Merbok), meanwhile, will ask the Housing and Local Government Minister whether the ministry had allocated special provisions to state governments or related agencies to manage solid waste and clean up illegal dumping sites outside the jurisdiction of local authorities.
Following the question session, the Dewan Rakyat will resume the debate on the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), which was tabled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last Thursday.

KUALA LUMPUR: The proposed monthly pension-style payments for Employees Provident Fund (EPF) members will not affect the withdrawal rights of existing members, said Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying. She clarified that the new mechanism, announced under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), will apply only to new members registering after its implementation. Existing members, however, may voluntarily opt in if they choose. 'The proposed restructuring of EPF accounts will introduce a new mechanism allowing part of members' savings to be allocated specifically for regular income during retirement,' Lim told the Dewan Rakyat. She was responding to a supplementary question from Mordi Bimol (PH-Mas Gading) regarding the rationale behind the monthly payout plan. Lim explained that the new structure aims to ensure members' savings last longer in retirement, aligning with increasing life expectancy. Under the proposal, savings will be split into two components upon reaching the minimum retirement age. Flexible savings can be withdrawn anytime based on members' needs, while income savings will be disbursed monthly until fully utilised. 'This proposal aims to strengthen retirement income security and support more sustainable financial management,' she added. Over 500,000 Online Content Items Removed Since 2022 For Violating Laws
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 7 (Bernama) -- More than 500,000 pieces of online content were removed by service providers between Jan 1, 2022, and Aug 1, 2025, for violating the law, the Dewan Rakyat was told today. Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching said the content taken down comprised 321,012 items related to gambling, 119,273 fraudulent content, 43,585 obscene, 35,420 involving bullying or sexual harassment, and 38,818 fake content. She said the content was removed at the request of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for breaching the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588), other relevant laws, and the platform providers' community guidelines.

Auxiliary police deployed to assist disabled passengers at train platforms
KUALA LUMPUR: Auxiliary police have been deployed to train platforms to assist passengers with disabilities and enhance accessibility on public transport, the Dewan Rakyat was told today. Transport Minister Anthony Loke said Prasarana Malaysia Bhd is training auxiliary police personnel to be more alert and responsive to the needs of disabled passengers at station platforms. "There have been incidents where persons with disabilities, or even members of the public, have accidentally fallen onto the tracks. "This is due to the design of older light rail transit (LRT) lines, which do not have platform screen doors separating the platform from the train. "However, newer Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) stations, such as those on the Putrajaya and Kajang lines, are equipped with platform screen doors that remain closed until the train arrives," he said. Loke was responding to Syerleena Abdul Rashid (PH–Bukit Bendera) on efforts to improve accessibility for persons with disabilities in public transportation. He said the platform doors act as a barrier between the platform and the train, and only open once the train comes to a complete stop. Loke said Prasarana is reviewing a proposal to install barriers between the platforms and tracks at older stations. While these barriers may not fully close the gap, he said they can help minimise the risk. "Implementing such safety measures will require a significant budget, as it involves redesigning all existing stations and will need long-term funding. "For now, auxiliary police are being mobilised to ensure that such incidents are kept to a minimum," he said.
