Aziz Mirza recalls shooting Chalte Chalte with Aishwarya Rai: ‘We had only shot Prem Nagariya…'

Aziz Mirza began shooting his fourth film, Chalte Chalte, with Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the lead roles. The duo began the shoot by filming the song 'Prem Nagariya'. However, for reasons best known to the makers, Aishwarya was replaced, and Rani Mukerji was brought in to play the female lead. In a recent interview with Radio Nasha Official, Aziz opened up about the decision to replace Aishwarya with Rani in Chalte Chalte. When asked, 'What went wrong with Aishwarya? You started the film with her…,' a visibly disappointed Mirza politely declined to reveal the exact reason, saying, 'I don't know. Anyway, these are the areas we unfortunately…' When asked, 'Kaafi shoot kar liya tha? (Had you shot a lot with her?),' he clarified, 'No, we had only shot the 'Prem Nagariya' song with her. We shot for just a day. Unfortunately, things didn't pan out the way we had hoped, and then Rani came on board.' This was the first time Aziz Mirza chose not to cast Juhi Chawla opposite Shah Rukh Khan, as his first three films had featured the duo as the leads. When asked if there was a reason for not casting Juhi in Chalte Chalte, Mirza explained that he felt it was time for a change. 'I just thought people might want to see someone different. Juhi would have been as good as anyone. Not that Rani was bad—Rani was as good as ever,' he said. Previously, a video of Shah Rukh Khan regretting replacing Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in Chalte Chalte went viral. In the video, the actor can be heard saying, 'As a producer, my hands were tied because I am not the only producer. I have a team of people. The collective decision of 10-11 people. We were also not been doing very well as producers. That was at stake. The whole company's reputation is at stake, we wanted to finish the film in three to four months. Personally, if you ask me, Aishwarya is very professional but I think we were a little saddened by the whole affair and we thought it wasn't meant to be. It was not superstition, it was a professional decision and even professionally we feel very bad. There's no two ways about it.' It is said that Aishwarya Rai was dating Salman Khan at that time and the latter allegedly created a ruckus on the film's set which forced the makers to replace her in Chalte Chalte.

Paresh Rawal Says Aamir Khan Was 'Methodical' In Andaz Apna Apna: 'Salman Toh Haste Khelte Ayega Aur...'

Last Updated: Paresh Rawal reminisced about filming the 1994 comedy Andaz Apna Apna with Aamir and Salman Khan. In a recent interview with Radio Nasha Official, veteran actor Paresh Rawal revisited his time on the sets of the 1994 cult comedy Andaz Apna Apna. Known for his dual role as Ram Gopal Bajaj and his twin Teja, Paresh shared his experience of working alongside Aamir Khan and Salman Khan. He also spoke about how the experience of filming this iconic movie felt unique compared to his other comedic roles. Paresh Rawal said Aamir Khan and Salman Khan worked in very different ways. Salman was relaxed and fun on set, while Aamir was serious and liked to plan everything in detail. He recalled, 'Salman's own charm and charisma is so powerful. He was like a breeze. But, with Aamir, his way of working is methodical. Salman toh hasste khelte aayega aur karlega, Aamir has to know everything. So, kabhi kabhi lagta tha ki thoda toh kahin par manufacture kia hua lagta hai. But, when you see his final impact, it's amazing." Paresh Rawal said that while shooting comedy films, actors usually don't laugh at their own scenes. Even with Hera Pheri, they didn't realise how funny it was during filming. 'I am really fortunate and lucky that Raj (Rajkumar Santoshi) gave me this film (Andaz Apna Apna). When you do a comedy film, you don't laugh while shooting. Many people say Hera Pheri was so funny but we didn't even know. But this (Andaz Apna Apna) is the only film in which we were having fun even while making it. The way our director was explaining every scene, we used to have a lot of fun and we knew deep down that it's funny." A week after Sikandar's release, Salman Khan announced the re-release of his cult Bollywood comedy film, Andaz Apna Apna. Co-starring Aamir Khan, the 1994 film is a fan favourite for its comic timing, performances and cast. Andaz Apna Apna is re-releasing on April 25. First Published:

Paresh Rawal says Salman Khan ‘hasste khelte shoot karlega', while Aamir Khan has to ‘know everything': ‘Kabhi kabhi lagta tha ki…'

Rajkumar Santoshi's 1994 cult classic Andaz Apna Apna featured the two Khans, Aamir and Salman. The film also starred Paresh Rawal in a dual role, as Ram Gopal Bajaj and his twin brother Teja. In a recent conversation with Radio Nasha Official, the veteran actor opened up about his experience working with Aamir Khan and Salman Khan. Paresh also spoke about how working on Andaz Apna Apna differed from his other comedy films. Describing the two actors as polar opposites, Paresh said, 'Salman's own charm and charisma is so powerful. He was like a breeze. But, with Aamir, his way of working is methodical. Salman toh hasste khelte aayega aur karlega, Aamir has to know everything. So, kabhi kabhi lagta tha ki thoda toh kahin par manufacture kia hua lagta hai. But, when you see his final impact, it's amazing.' When asked about laughing at their own jokes and punchlines while shooting a comedy film, Paresh Rawal shared, 'I am really fortunate and lucky that Raj (Rajkumar Santoshi) gave me this film (Andaz Apna Apna). When you do a comedy film, you don't laugh while shooting. Many people say Hera Pheri was so funny but we didn't even know. But this (Andaz Apna Apna) is the only film in which we were having fun even while making it. The way our director was explaining every scene, we used to have a lot of fun and we knew deep down that it's funny.' It was disappointing for Paresh Rawal that Andaz Apna Apna—which is being re-released in theatres on April 25—didn't receive the recognition it deserved upon its original release. 'It just didn't get the release it deserved, that was a misfire. Hence we didn't get that good of a response. But, it has grown a lot in the past few years,' he concluded.
