Bid to revive J&K tourism: BJP leader plays cricket in Pahalgam; watch video
Screengrab PTI NEW DELHI: Jammu & Kashmir BJP leader Ravinder Raina on Tuesday played cricket with Pahalgam locals in a bid to revive normalcy in the Valley, which witnessed a sharp decline in tourism after the April 22 terrorist attack at Baisaran meadow. In the clip, the BJP leader was seen bowling and batting with the local kids of the Valley. The efforts are being made from several quarters to revive tourism in Kashmir as travel agents from across the country will converge in Kashmir this weekend to boost tourism in the Valley. The Travel Agents Federation of India (TAFI), which is one of the country's biggest umbrella organisations for agents with over 1,600 members, will be holding its meeting in Srinagar and Pahalgam from June 13-16 to instil confidence among the fraternity. Srinagar hotels and flights commanded a big premium before the Pahalgam attack as Kashmir was seeing unprecedented tourist footfalls post Covid. But after the April 22 attack, tourists already there left Kashmir in droves and those who had plans to visit cancelled the same. J&K is currently focussed on ensuring a safe Amarnath Yatra as they hope that will send out a message that tourists can return to Kashmir. The yatra duration has been curtailed to 38 days, instead of 52 days in 2024, and will be on between July 3 and August 9, 2025. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Your Address of Pride – Signature Global SPR Signature Global Book Now Undo A total of 581 companies from various Central Armed Police Forces, along with personnel from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, will be deployed along the pilgrimage routes to ensure safety of the lakhs of pilgrims. The tourism industry in Kashmir has been badly hit since Pakistan-backed terrorists killed 26 civilians in Pahalgam on April 22. The attack sent a shockwave across the nation, prompting the government to take kinetic action against terror camps deep into Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). The Indian forces, in a big action, destroyed the terror camps of Jaish and Lashkar located in Pakistan's Bahawalpur and Muridke.

Residents of the area expressed hopes for a relief package amid concerns over recent shelling incidents. Earlier, Congress leader and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi visited Poonch, and after that, he wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In the letter, he requested a strong and generous relief and rehabilitation package for the people affected by Pakistani shelling in the border areas. 'I urge the Government of India to come out with a solid and generous relief and rehabilitation package for Poonch and all other areas affected by Pakistani shelling,' Gandhi wrote in the letter. He said that 14 people, including four children, had lost their lives. At the same time, dozens were injured in Pakistani shelling, which caused 'massive destruction' in the common areas, with hundreds of houses and other structures damaged. 'I recently visited Poonch, where 14 people, including four children, have tragically lost their lives and dozens have been injured in Pakistani shelling. This sudden and indiscriminate attack has caused massive destruction in the common areas. Hundreds of houses, shops, schools and religious places have been badly damaged. Many victims said that their years of hard work were wasted in one stroke,' the letter stated. In a post on X earlier, the Congress leader said that the pain being felt by the people of Poonch can be understood only after visiting it. India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 and struck nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied-Kashmir in response to a ghastly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam last month in which 26 people were killed. After the attack, Pakistan retaliated with cross-border shelling across the Line of Control and Jammu and Kashmir as well as attempted drone attacks along the border regions, following which India launched a coordinated attack and damaged radar infrastructure, communication centres, and airfields across 11 airbases in Pakistan. After this, on May 10, an understanding of the cessation of hostilities between India and Pakistan was announced. (ANI)

Opposition slams BJP leader Ravinder Raina for making ‘reel' with soldiers: ‘Is this acceptable to PM?'
Opposition leaders on Monday criticised Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ravinder Raina for posting a video with Army soldiers while the country is mourning the loss of 26 lives in the April 22 terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam. In the one-minute and 14-second-long video shared by Ravinder Raina on his social media handles, the former BJP chief of Jammu and Kashmir is seen running alongside uniformed soldiers in the snow. 'In Kashmir, terrorists killed 28 of our people. The entire nation is pained and grieving over this tragic incident. But, BJP's former state president and national executive member Ravinder Raina is busy making videos,' the Congress party posted on X. 'But is this vulgar display acceptable to the BJP leadership and the Prime Minister? Shameful!' it added. Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi also lashed out at Raina over the video, saying that protecting BJP leaders appears to be the real priority instead of borders. 'Reel game on point. 'Let the security forces guard the borders later — right now, protecting BJP leaders is the real priority.' On his part, Ravinder Raina said that the video was shot in January during severe snowfall in Kashmir. J&K BJP Leader Shares Snow Video With Soldiers, Faces Opposition Jibes: 'Reel Game On Point'
Last Updated: Ravinder Raina, a BJP's national executive member, uploaded a one-minute reel on May 4, showing him running in the snow with at least five armed security personnel following him. Former Jammu and Kashmir BJP chief Ravinder Raina faced strong criticism from opposition leaders after posting a reel showing him running through snow with his security personnel. Raina, a BJP's national executive member, uploaded a one-minute reel on May 4, showing him running in the snow with at least five armed security personnel following him. While the BJP leader captioned the reel with 'Jai Hind," the timing of the post coming less than two weeks after the Pahalgam terror attack triggered backlash as the opposition leaders accused him of misusing the security forces. Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi reacted to the post by saying that while security forces can guard the borders later, their primary duty appears to be protecting BJP leaders first. 'Reel game on point. If you have security such as this ek reel toh banti hai. Security forces can protect borders later, BJP waalon ko bachana bahut zaroori hai," she posted on X. Senior Congress leader Supriya Shrinate accused the BJP leader of enjoying the snow and misusing security personnel while the entire nation is in mourning after the Pahalgam attack. 'Somebody has lost his young son, somebody his father, somebody her husband. And this person is in a frolicking mood? He is shooting reels? Misusing security personnel? Where do they get so much shamelessness? Is insensitivity the BJP's character?" she asked. Congress's Kerala unit also shared the reel on X and said this was the treatment 'BJP leaders or even fake PMO officials get". 'But not a single police or military person was posted where over 2000 tourists visit. Not a single gunshot was fired back," it said. Terrorists sprayed bullets on dozens of tourists in Pahalgam on April 22, killing at least 26, in the deadliest attack in the Valley since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019. The Resistance Front (TRF), a shadow group of the Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), claimed responsibility for the terror attack, prompting India to downgrade its diplomatic ties with Pakistan on all fronts. Earlier in the week, PM Modi vowed to deliver the 'toughest" punishment to terrorists and their backers. He assured the families of the victims that 'justice will be served."
