Centre taking necessary steps for safety of J-K students, traders stranded in Iran: BJP's Ravinder Raina
Raina, a former president of J-K BJP unit, said many students and their parents have contacted him and he wanted to assure them that they would not be allowed to face any problem and if there is a need, they will be safely evacuated.
'We are very much concerned about the safety and security of our students studying in Iran. Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already taken steps to ensure safety of the Indian students and the traders stranded there,' the BJP leader said.
He said External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is in constant touch with the government of Iran and the Indian High Commission is also looking after this issue seriously.
'Many of our students in Iran and parents contacted me and I assure them and also the businessmen that the Government of India will not let them face any kind of problem. They are our children and the children of our country,' he said.
He said it is the duty of the government to protect them and take care of their security.
'Our prime minister has said that in case of need, they will be brought back to the country,' Rana said.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday said he spoke to the External Affairs Minister regarding students from the Union Territory and was assured that necessary steps will be taken to ensure safety of all Indian students.
Indian nationals in Iran were on Sunday asked to exercise due caution and maintain contact with the Embassy of India in Tehran through its social media accounts in view of the current situation in the country following the launch of strikes by Israel.
Israel on Friday last had launched Operation Rising Lion to strike at Iran's nuclear, missile and military complex. The strikes left key military commanders and nuclear scientists dead. Iran retaliated by launching waves of drones and ballistic missiles at Israel.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will begin his two-day visit to India on Monday, where he will hold a crucial bilateral meeting with External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar. However, the Chinese Foreign Minister's visit also assumes significance in view of increasing tensions in India-US relations following President Donald Trump doubling tariffs on Indian goods to 50 per cent, which included an additional penalty of 25 per cent for purchasing Russian oil. India and China are expected to discuss new confidence-building measures for durable peace and tranquillity along their contested border during Wang Yi's visit, which comes ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's China trip later this month. The Chinese Foreign Minister's visit is largely seen as part of ongoing efforts by the two neighbours to rebuild their relationship after it came under severe strain following the deadly Galwan Valley clashes in 2020. Wang Yi will be in India primarily to hold a fresh round of Special Representatives (SR) dialogue on the boundary question with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. Wang and Doval are the designated special representatives for the boundary talks. The Chinese Foreign Minister will arrive in New Delhi at around 4:15 p.m. on Monday. At 6 p.m., he will meet EAM Jaishankar for bilateral discussions. On Tuesday morning, Wang Yi is scheduled to hold a new round of the Special Representatives (SR) dialogue with NSA Doval at 11 a.m. The meetings could see both sides deliberate on a range of key issues, including the border situation, trade and resumption of flight services. The Chinese Minister will then call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence, 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). The meeting assumes significance as it is taking place days before PM Modi's planned trip to China to attend the annual summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). Though the two sides disengaged troops from the friction points, they are yet to de-escalate the situation by pulling back the frontline forces from the border. Each side currently has around 50,000 to 60,000 troops along the LAC in the eastern Ladakh region. As per the plan, Prime Minister Modi will visit Japan around August 29 and then travel to the northern Chinese city of Tianjin for the SCO summit. NSA Doval travelled to China in December last year and held the SR talks with Wang Yi, weeks after Prime Minister Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping decided to revive various dialogue mechanisms between the two sides at a meeting in the Russian city of Kazan. The military standoff in eastern Ladakh began in May 2020 and the clashes at the Galwan Valley in June that year resulted in a severe strain in bilateral ties. The decision to revive various dialogue mechanisms was taken at a meeting between Prime Minister Modi and Chinese President Xi in Kazan on October 23, 2024. The two sides also initiated several initiatives to rebuild ties, including the resumption of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra and New Delhi restarting the issuance of tourist visas to Chinese nationals. Both sides are also discussing modalities to resume direct flight services between the two countries. The flight services between the two sides were suspended following the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. It was not restored in view of the border row. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and EAM Jaishankar visited China in the last two months to attend the SCO meetings.

Several schools in the national capital received a bomb threat in the early hours of Monday, officials said. As a safety measure, the schools were quickly evacuated. Police and bomb disposal teams arrived at the scene and began a thorough search of the premises. Although the previous two bomb threats turned out to be hoaxes, security agencies are taking today's call seriously and are following all necessary protocols. Live Events Earlier in July, after receiving information about a bomb threat, the Fire Department and Delhi Police personnel were deployed at Richmond Global School in Paschim Vihar, the Sovereign School in Rohini Sector 24, Modern International School in Dwarka Sector 19 and the Heritage School in Rohini Sector 23, among several other schools in the national capital. Richmondd Global School Principal Moupali Mitra said that they had informed the Commissioner of Police only a few minutes after receiving the bomb threat email this morning. Each corner of the school was checked for explosives with the help of the bomb disposal squad and other teams, and it was found to be safe, she added. "We are keeping an eye on every kind of message. We received the mail threat at 10:52 AM and mailed the Commissioner of Police at 10:58 AM. Immediately, the bomb squad and other teams arrived along with the Cyber department... We cross-checked every corner of the school, and it is absolutely safe... We are taking all necessary measures to ensure the safety of the children... Some anti-social people are spreading such rumours, and we all must stand against them... The school is functioning normally," Mitra told ANI. Similarly, three colleges of Delhi University also received bomb threats through email, police said on July 18. According to police, IP College for Women, Hindu College, and Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) got bomb threats via email.
