‘Time-wasting fee': Escort ‘extorts R70k' from man who refused her services

A KwaZulu-Natal man has allegedly been extorted of R70,000 by an escort after he declined her services. The man had made telephonic contact with the woman on Friday to inquire about her services. However, he had second thoughts, declined to make a booking and ended the conversation. He then started receiving threatening messages from the woman, who demanded money she called a 'time-wasting fee'. According to Reaction Unit SA (Rusa), whom the man contacted for help, the man initially refused to make the payment. 'The extortionist forwarded him pictures from his social media accounts and threatened to contact his family and inform them he attempted to solicit the services of an escort,' said Rusa spokesperson Prem Balram. 'T he victim thereafter made three payments totalling R70,000 into three different bank accounts provided by the woman. The client [contacted] Rusa on Monday after he received demands for further payment of R25,000.' Balram said the man's bank accounts were depleted. SowetanLIVE

What was meant to be a fire to get rid of rubbish resulted in five cars being gutted while awaiting repairs at a panelbeating workshop. The incident happened on Tuesday at Waterloo in KwaZulu-Natal after the Malawian owner started the fire. Prem Balram, a spokesperson for private security company Reaction Unit SA, said unit members 'arrived on the scene at about 1.30pm and removed gas cylinders lying near the burning vehicles. 'The flames spread through the yard, which resulted in five customers' vehicles catching alight. Firefighters from the eThekwini fire department extinguished the blaze.' No injuries were reported.

Image: Rusa A CLOSE relative has been arrested following the brutal murder of an 83-year-old blind grandmother and the attempted murder of her daughter, who is in critical condition after a violent attack in Phoenix. The suspect was arrested by Phoenix detectives, in Amaoti, north of Durban last night. Prem Balram, of Reaction Unit SA, said detectives from the Phoenix SAPS had requested statements this morning (Wednesday) from his team. She was declared dead by Reaction Unit South Africa paramedics, who arrived at the home. Appalsamy, a mother of two, was also stabbed multiple times and her throat slit. She was resuscitated before being taken to a hospital and remains in a critical condition.

Three dead and at least a dozen injured after bus plunges off bridge

Three people died and at least 12 were injured when a bus plunged off a bridge in Tongaat, north of Durban on Tuesday. Reaction Unit South Africa said emergency workers were at the scene of the crash. The bus was travelling on Gopalall Hurbans Road when it veered off the road, crashed through safety barriers and landed about 25m below the bridge. Two men and a woman were pronounced dead at the scene and at least 12 people sustained moderate to severe injuries. It cannot yet be confirmed if there are further entrapments under the bus. KZN transport and human settlements MEC Siboniso Duma said a Road Traffic Inspectorate team redirected traffic as emergency teams extracted a victim from the wreckage. Duma said most roads in the area were affected during the recovery process.
