Naga Munchetty cuts off Charlie Stayt with brutal swipe live on BBC Breakfast

BBC Breakfast presenter Naga Munchetty didn't hold back in delivering a brutal comment to her co-host. BBC Breakfast's Naga Munchetty couldn't resist taking a playful dig at her colleague Charlie Stayt this Friday. The presenting duo were discussing the enduring impact of David Lynch, noting that the iconic filmmaker's personal effects are now going under the hammer in a live auction. ‌ Charlie, feeling nostalgic, tried to hum the Twin Peaks theme tune, admitting: "As soon as you say Twin Peaks, in my head I've got..." ‌ Naga chuckled at his musical attempt and when Charlie suggested, "Give it time, you've got to give it time - I think I did it about right!" she swiftly shut him down with a firm, "No don't." She teasingly prodded further: "It says a lot about what's in your head, doesn't it, really?" Unfazed, Charlie retorted with a smile: "It's always in my head." ‌ The pair had been delving into the upcoming auction of Lynch's belongings from his home, which includes memorabilia from his cult classics such as Twin Peaks, Mulholland Drive, Eraserhead, and The Elephant Man. Naga detailed: "David Lynch, the film director who died earlier this year, obviously famed for Twin Peaks and Mulholland Drive, there is an auction of his stuff and because his films are so kind of out there, you can imagine what they were like." ‌ She highlighted some of the more quirky items up for grabs, including coffee machines from the Twin Peaks diner, a log lady ceramic mug complete with a faux log handle, walkie talkies labelled with his name from movie sets, a duo of taxidermied deer heads, and a crimson curtain from the infamous Red Room sequence. Lynch passed away at the age of 78 on January 15, succumbing to cardiac arrest induced by chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Confined to his home due to emphysema from his chain-smoking habits, his demise was later linked to the COPD condition he battled. ‌ In an emotional admission last year, Lynch stated on X: "Ladies and Gentlemen, yes, I have emphysema from my many years of smoking. "I have to say that I enjoyed smoking very much, and I do love tobacco - the smell of it, lighting cigarettes on fire, smoking them - but there is a price to pay for this enjoyment, and the price for me is emphysema." He continued in grateful spirits, despite his diagnosis: "I have now quit smoking for over two years. Recently I had many tests and the good news is that I am in excellent shape except for emphysema. I am filled with happiness, and I will never retire. I want you all to know that I really appreciate your concern. Love, David." Naga on BBC Breakfast noted that Lynch's personal items such as lighters and ashtrays were up for auction, described as "in a macabre touch". BBC Breakfast airs every weekday starting at 6am on BBC One and iPlayer.

A limited-edition Wes Anderson bar has popped up in Soho

Pastel facades, retro outfits, deadpan expressions, perfect symmetry and Bill Murray. If you know exactly what we're talking about, then you might be interested to know that something new has popped up in London that could be right up your street. In celebration of the quirky director's new film The Phoenician Scheme, a Wes Anderson-inspired bar has opened up at Bob Bob Ricard in Soho. The venue's Red Room has been temporarily transformed into Marseille Bob's, the fictional bar that stars in the movie. Everything from the drinks to the placemats are based on The Phoenician Scheme 's plot, aesthetic, characters and standout lines. Even the waiters will be sporting white blazers, red carnations and fez hats, replicating the costumes worn in the film. Time Out contributing film critic Kaleb Aftab called Anderson's new film 'action-packed espionage caper with a touch of magic' in which he 'blends his signature style with dashes of film noir and action beats'. See exactly what we thought of the movie here. The pop-up's beverage offering includes 'Tycoon on the Rocks', a pipette-served margarita that changes colour (designed to resemble a poison test) and 'Hand Grenade', a twist on a white negroni, nodding to the line 'would you like a hand grenade?'. For those feeling peckish, snacks will be simple but lavish in a 'nod to the film's indulgent aesthetic'. They'll include giant salted pretzels served in silver bowls and tins of smoked Cantabrian anchovies with butter and brown bread. The pop-up opened on May 23 and will be there until June 22 – make a reservation here. And if that's not enough Wes for you, make sure get your hands on tickets for the Design Museum's exhibition 'Wes Anderson: The Archives' opening in November.

David Harbour Addresses Black Widow Character Noticeably Missing From Thunderbolts*, And It's A More Optimistic Answer Than I Expected

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. The upcoming Marvel movie Thunderbolts* is in many ways a direct follow-up to 2021's Black Widow. Three of the movie's major characters, Yelena, Red Guardian and Taskmaster, debuted in that film, and this is the first time we've seen the latter two since then. It is, of course, not surprising that Scarlett Johansson's Natasha doesn't appear, but considering the rest of Black Widow's 'family' is here, it makes one wonder what happened to Melina. Rachael Weisz joined the Black Widow cast as Melina, a Red Room operative who also played the role of mother to Natasha and Yelena during their days undercover. At the end of Black Widow, the family comes together, but Melina is nowhere to be found in Thunderbolts*. Speaking with THR, David Harbour is surprisingly open that he doesn't know where Melina is, but he absolutely wants to see her back, and has even been talking to Marvel about making that happen. He said… No, [we don't]. I've talked to [Marvel] people about Melina, and I think there's still very much potential for Melina. While Harbour's Alexei and Weisz's Melina were only playing an undercover husband and wife in Black Widow, the movie reveals that there was real affection between the pair, and there's even a Black Widow deleted scene (viewable with a Disney+ subscription) where the two kiss at the end of the movie. But Red Guardian is very clearly a bachelor during Thunderbolts*. While Yelena and Red Guardian are not particularly close in Thunderbolts*, they have remained in touch. It's unclear if the same is true with Melina. It could be that she is simply elsewhere during the events of the film, or there could be something else going on. The fact that Melina isn't anywhere in Thunderbolts* could be an indication that her story is simply seen as over, and the MCU will move on without her, as it has with so many other characters over the years. However, David Harbour thinks there's a real chance we could see Melina again, and he thinks it would certainly make for some real drama for his character. He continued… But I do think that there's potential for Melina's reemergence in some kind of interesting way, and I would love to have her back in Alexei's life. She would add such an interesting complexity. We know that David Harbour and the rest of the Thunderbolts* cast will be joining the cast of Avengers: Doomsday, and as long as Red Guardian and Yelena are a significant part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the door is likely open for a return for Melina. Florence Pugh was in the same interview with Harbour, and it seems clear that both of them would love to see Rachel Weisz return. Maybe it really could happen.

What Happens to Taskmaster in Thunderbolts*? Fate Explained

Viewers are curious about Taskmaster's (Olga Kurylenko) fate in * — did she die or survive? Introduced in Black Widow (2021), she is the daughter of General Dreykov and was a commander of the Red Room. She wields the ability to copy anyone's combat style. After Natasha Romanoff killed her father and closed down the Red Room, her mind was liberated, and she escaped. She then began working for Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, continuing her story in Thunderbolts*. Here are the details on what ending Thunderbolts* gave Taskmaster. Ghost, played by Hannah John-Kamen, kills Taskmaster in a strategic trap set by Fontaine, which leads to her demise. In the movie, Valentina initially tasks Yelena Belova to follow Ghost to a secret compound, which has the remains of Project Sentry. She also asks her to check on what the Ghost is after and eliminate her entirely. When she reaches the compound, she realizes she is not alone, as John Walker (US Agent) is also sent to kill her. Apart from that, Taskmaster also appears and has intentions to kill the US agent. This shows that Valentina had laid a horrific trap for all four anti-heroes. She set all her former operatives to kill each other, which would fulfill her antagonistic intentions of hiding her OXE operations from Congress. The secret compound becomes a battlefield as all four of them fight each other. Amid their deadly fight, Ghost leverages her impressive power to phase through Taskmaster to distract her. At the same time, she also pulls out the gun and shoots her in the head, leading to her demise. Her death comes as a shock, given they weren't even battling the real antagonist, but were just acting as Valentina's pawns with a mission to eliminate each other from the picture. While Taskmaster's death was shocking, it impacted Ghost's arc significantly. This is because she felt the guilt of killing Taskmaster after learning that Valentina was behind the deadly trap. This leads to the beginning of her redemption arc in the movie.

‘Thunderbolts*': Florence Pugh and David Harbour Talk Absent ‘Black Widow' Stars and Pretending to Be Tom Cruise

As Florence Pugh and David Harbour enter into the home stretch of the Thunderbolts* press tour, a couple of key absences are on their minds from their collective MCU debut in 2021's Black Widow. When Pugh joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Yelena Belova, she was introduced as the heir apparent to Scarlett Johansson's outgoing Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow. After all, Johansson's character had died two years earlier in Avengers: Endgame, as her sacrifice played a key role in the Avengers finally taking down the almighty Thanos and restoring the population he blipped out of existence, including Yelena herself. More from The Hollywood Reporter Box Office: 'Thunderbolts*' to Kick Off Summer Season in Pivotal Moment for Marvel Studios 'Thunderbolts*': Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Geraldine Viswanathan Pitch a Hugh Jackman Run-In and Talk "Silly" 'Seinfeld' Curse Sebastian Stan Channeled Clint Eastwood in 'Unforgiven' For 'Thunderbolts*': "The Older Guy That's Been There, Done That" Johansson's long-overdue solo movie was then meant to shed light on Natasha and Yelena's origin story and also pass the torch to Pugh's adoptive sister character. In the early '90s, they spent three years together in Ohio, posing as the daughters of Russian operatives Alexei Shostakov (Harbour) and Melina Vostokoff (Rachel Weisz). One day, their undercover mission was abruptly completed, resulting in the two young girls being shuttled off to the Red Room's Black Widow Program. The sisterly duo would then topple the institution in the 2016 timeline of Black Widow. Seven years later, once Yelena returned from the blip, CIA director Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) wrongfully blamed Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) for Natasha's death until he clarified the matter on the Disney+ series, Hawkeye. That wouldn't be the first time de Fontaine decided to mislead Yelena, as Jake Schreier's Thunderbolts* has Louis-Dreyfus' character set a death trap for Yelena and several other MCU loners, forcing them to team up to stop a much greater threat. With Pugh positioned as the lead of the Thunderbolts* ensemble, she acknowledges Johansson's hand in her MCU ascent and how much she misses her presence on set. 'My whole journey with Marvel was because of Scarlett trusting me and Scarlett wanting me to join her movie [Black Widow] six years ago,' Pugh tells The Hollywood Reporter in support of the May 2 theatrical release of Thunderbolts*. 'So I always miss her presence. It was such a mean thing … that [Black Widow] was the first and the last time I would get to experience this world with her. But I am genuinely always just hoping that she's proud.' For Harbour, he can't help but wonder where Alexei's beloved Melina is at the moment. The ending of Cate Shortland's Black Widow had Yelena, Melina and Alexei lead the Red Room's now-liberated Widows to safety, so one might have assumed that Melina and Alexei's reconnection would stick, especially with the knowledge of an intimate deleted scene. Of course, unused footage is rarely considered canonical, but it seems that Harbour has been making the case for more Melina/Weisz behind the scenes. 'I've talked to [Marvel] people about Melina, and I think there's still very much potential for Melina,' Harbour says. 'There was a beautiful [deleted] scene with me and Rachel [kissing] after the crash. It was one of my favorite moments from [Black Widow]. But I do think that there's potential for Melina's reemergence in some kind of interesting way, and I would love to have her back in Alexei's life.' There's been a great deal of talk surrounding Pugh's impressive skyscraper stunt at the beginning of Thunderbolts*. She personally lobbied Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige to not only restore the sequence after it was omitted for a period of time, but also allow her to make the leap herself off of Kuala Lumpur's Merdeka 118, the world's second-tallest building. Schreier told THR in an upcoming interview that the stunt and its marketing opportunities were meant to be their own spin on Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible playbook, and now Pugh is also confirming that Cruise was an inspiration for the jump. 'When it got taken out [of the movie], that was when I really got sassy,' Pugh says regarding her email to Feige. 'But, of course, anything that Tom Cruise does, stunt-wise and acting-wise, is just totally impressive. I don't think I'm going to be flying any machines or riding any motorbikes, but this was a perfect amount of stunt for me. So it certainly was fun to pretend to be Tom Cruise for a few seconds.' Below, during a recent conversation with THR, Harbour also discusses how Disney and Netflix worked together so he could film Thunderbolts* and Stranger Things 5 simultaneously. *** Well, Florence, despite having a new guinea pig, Yelena is lonely. She misses her sister, Natasha. But this set did have a version of Natasha in the form of stunt coordinator Heidi Moneymaker, 's longtime stunt double. Did you ever feel Scarlett's absence and comment on it like Yelena does? FLORENCE PUGH That's a good point. My whole journey with Marvel was because of Scarlett trusting me and Scarlett wanting me to join her movie [Black Widow] six years ago. So I always miss her presence, and I always feel like it was such a mean thing to begin the journey with someone and then you never get to work with them again on it. (Laughs.) It was kind of wild that [Black Widow] was the first and the last time I would get to experience this world with her. But I am genuinely always just hoping that she's proud. I always have that in the back of my head, like, 'Oh, I hope she's happy that we came in.' So I do miss her a lot on set, yes. We would have a lot of laughter. David, when Alexei is not gargling Palmolive dish soap … DAVID HARBOUR (Laughs.) He doesn't gargle it! He was just brushing his teeth with it. Actually, he might gargle a little bit, sorry. Do you think he still pines for Rachel Weisz's character? PUGH Aww. What happened to Alexei and Melina, post-? HARBOUR That's a great question, and in fact, I would love to get into that. PUGH We don't know what happened to Melina. HARBOUR No, [we don't]. I've talked to [Marvel] people about Melina, and I think there's still very much potential for Melina. PUGH Hope! HARBOUR It's funny, when we shot Black Widow, there was no time for this scene in the movie itself, because the movie is clearly about Scarlett's character. But there were some DVD extras that came out … The kiss! HARBOUR Yeah, there was a beautiful scene with me and Rachel after the crash. I touch her face and everything. It was one of my favorite moments from that movie. PUGH It was cut? HARBOUR Yeah, it was cut. You can't focus on those two when Natasha is fighting Taskmaster at the end of the film. 'Let's go to the two supporting characters and see how they worked out!' PUGH & HARBOUR (Laugh.) HARBOUR But I do think that there's potential for Melina's reemergence in some kind of interesting way, and I would love to have her back in Alexei's life. She would add such an interesting complexity. Florence, before 'Sassy Karen' emailed Kevin Feige about the skyscraper stunt, were you watching featurettes when inspiration struck? PUGH So what I will say is that it wasn't my idea to go up there. That was already in the script, and it was already such an impressive way to start a script by having someone fall off a building. I was just really, really amazed that they had written that version of an opening. And then, when it got taken out, that was when I really got sassy. (Laughs.) But, of course, anything that Tom Cruise does, stunt-wise and acting-wise, is just totally impressive. I mean, I'd be mad if I didn't want to pretend that I was him for two seconds. I don't think I'm going to be flying any machines or riding any motorbikes, but this was a perfect amount of stunt for me. So it certainly was fun to pretend to be Tom Cruise for a few seconds. David, last time we spoke, your summer of being way-too-employed had come to a screeching halt due to the strikes. Did you still end up shooting , and at the same time? HARBOUR (Laughs.) Yeah, I was doing Stranger Things 5, Thunderbolts and A Working Man. PUGH Way too employed! HARBOUR [A Working Man] was a day and a half in London; I just went over for the weekend. So the scheduling was a bit insane, but I do love all the projects, and I'm not very good at turning things down. PUGH Yeah, me neither. HARBOUR When I love something, I try to find a way to make it work, and these franchises understand how important they are to each other. So I think Disney and Netflix try to make things work out, and people try to take care of you to make you happy. So it's been very nice that everyone can work stuff out. ***Thunderbolts* opens in movie theaters nationwide on May 2.
