Naga Munchetty cuts off Charlie Stayt with brutal swipe live on BBC Breakfast

Daily Mirrora day ago

BBC Breakfast presenter Naga Munchetty didn't hold back in delivering a brutal comment to her co-host.
BBC Breakfast's Naga Munchetty couldn't resist taking a playful dig at her colleague Charlie Stayt this Friday.
The presenting duo were discussing the enduring impact of David Lynch, noting that the iconic filmmaker's personal effects are now going under the hammer in a live auction.

Charlie, feeling nostalgic, tried to hum the Twin Peaks theme tune, admitting: "As soon as you say Twin Peaks, in my head I've got..."

Naga chuckled at his musical attempt and when Charlie suggested, "Give it time, you've got to give it time - I think I did it about right!" she swiftly shut him down with a firm, "No don't."
She teasingly prodded further: "It says a lot about what's in your head, doesn't it, really?"
Unfazed, Charlie retorted with a smile: "It's always in my head."

The pair had been delving into the upcoming auction of Lynch's belongings from his home, which includes memorabilia from his cult classics such as Twin Peaks, Mulholland Drive, Eraserhead, and The Elephant Man.
Naga detailed: "David Lynch, the film director who died earlier this year, obviously famed for Twin Peaks and Mulholland Drive, there is an auction of his stuff and because his films are so kind of out there, you can imagine what they were like."

She highlighted some of the more quirky items up for grabs, including coffee machines from the Twin Peaks diner, a log lady ceramic mug complete with a faux log handle, walkie talkies labelled with his name from movie sets, a duo of taxidermied deer heads, and a crimson curtain from the infamous Red Room sequence.
Lynch passed away at the age of 78 on January 15, succumbing to cardiac arrest induced by chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Confined to his home due to emphysema from his chain-smoking habits, his demise was later linked to the COPD condition he battled.

In an emotional admission last year, Lynch stated on X: "Ladies and Gentlemen, yes, I have emphysema from my many years of smoking.
"I have to say that I enjoyed smoking very much, and I do love tobacco - the smell of it, lighting cigarettes on fire, smoking them - but there is a price to pay for this enjoyment, and the price for me is emphysema."
He continued in grateful spirits, despite his diagnosis: "I have now quit smoking for over two years. Recently I had many tests and the good news is that I am in excellent shape except for emphysema. I am filled with happiness, and I will never retire. I want you all to know that I really appreciate your concern. Love, David."
Naga on BBC Breakfast noted that Lynch's personal items such as lighters and ashtrays were up for auction, described as "in a macabre touch".
BBC Breakfast airs every weekday starting at 6am on BBC One and iPlayer.

TV stars deliver all the iconic looks at the British Soap Awards 2025

One of the biggest nights in a soap star's calendar is upon us as the cast of the nation's favourite serial dramas step on to the red carpet. We are of course referring to the British Soap Awards, which stages its return this year following a one-year hiatus. The typically annual ceremony sees EastEnders, Emmerdale, Coronation Street and Hollyoaks go head-to-head to compete for Best Soap, with the stars of each respective serial up for a cluster of awards. With this year having been a huge one for all four soaps, with time jumps, anniversaries, shock returns and stunts galore – not to mention the incredible, boundary-pushing stories that we all know and love – it's safe to say that they've all pulled out the stops. The awards ceremony, which will air on ITV this Thursday, is currently underway, with the actors having hit the red carpet. Patsy Palmer, who is nominated for Best Comedy Performance, was looking fabulous in a blue crop top, with trousers and a jacket to match. The actress had plenty of storylines over the past year, reprising her iconic EastEnders role as Bianca Jackson, who was famously held prisoner in a lock-up by evil Reiss Colwell. Co-star Gillian Taylforth, who plays Kathy Beale on the BBC One drama, was pictured alongside 80s co-star Anita Dobson, who is up for Best Scene following Angie Watts' unexpected comeback as part of EastEnders 40th anniversary. Our hearts are full. EastEnders' Laura Doddington – aka the formidable Nicola Mitchell – was pictured during the arrivals too. The actress has left quite an impression on viewers as scheming Nicola, who is up for Best Newcomer. Elijah Hollway, who plays Harry Mitchell, looked suave in a black t-shirt and trousers, with a jacket a dark shade of blue finishing off the look. Elaine Peacock and George Knight stars Harriet Thorpe and Colin Salmon were also in attendance. Queen Victoria landlady Harriet wore a long flowing blue dress while Colin opted for a stylish black suit. Balvinder Sopal and Navin Chowdhry, who play Suki and Nish Panesar, reunited on the red carpet. Navin is up for Best Villain, with dish having met a shocking end earlier this year. The Hollyoaks cast were also out in their best gear, with Ste Hay star Kieron Richardson, Gemma Bissix, Tamara Wall, Isabelle Smith, Ashley Taylor Dawson and Jessica Fox among those in attendance. Gemma, who recently returned to screens as the deliciously evil Clare Devine, shared the red carpet with on-screen sister and real-life bestie Tamara Wall, who plays Grace Black on the Channel 4 soap. Friendship goals. Gemma wore a black dress while Tamara sported a black suit and a pair of patent high heel shoes to finish out the classy look. The Osborne clan, who are nominated for Best Family, also hit the red carpet, with Ashley (Darren), Isabelle (Frankie) and Jessica (Nancy) stopping for a picture together. Sienna Blake icon Anna Passey, who has been at the centre of some huge storylines this past year, was also pictured, wearing a yellow dress. Sienna is currently being drugged by her serial killer dad Jez and her granny Martha, who has dementia. Her long-lost twin sibling Dodger also returned to screens, and upcoming scenes will see the pair on the hunt for granddaughter Victoria. Kieron Richardson, meanwhile, attended the Soap Awards with husband Carl Hyland. The pair, who renewed their wedding vows in Portugal last week, looked dapper in suits. Lucas Hay star Oscar Curtis ate up the red carpet in a snazzy red, white and black blazer, while co-star and on-screen boyfriend Nathaniel Dass, who plays Dillon Ray, wore a stylish suit in a dark shade of pink, finishing out the look with a summery shirt. Nate's real-life girlfriend Ruby O'Donnell, who plays Peri Lomax on the soap, wore a flowing summery yellow dress. Ruby stunned audiences this year with a hard-hitting and emotional rape storyline as on-screen character Peri was assaulted by Abe Fielding. Oscar and Nate, meanwhile, continue to have a huge following online, playing much loved couple Lucas and Dillon – also known as HayRay, who are up for Best Partnership. And speaking of loved partnerships, Coronation Street favourite Vicky Myers – aka DS Lisa Swain – was pictured on the red carpet wearing a stunning silver dress. She is nominated with Alison King, who plays Carla. The on-screen couple, known as Swarla, have taken fans by storm, amassing a loyal and devoted following online. Luca Toolan, meanwhile, wore a black suit and a bow tie. The soap star is nominated for Scene of the Year for Mason Radcliffe's death. Luca bowed out of his Mason role after just a year, in horrific scenes that saw him fatally stabbed by his brothers. The youngster, was attacked by a zombie knife while protecting Dylan Wilson (Liam McCheyne) who had intervened to help his former bully. After being rushed into hospital, hospital staff worked tirelessly to keep him alive, to no avail. Sarah Platt star Tina O'Brien was also in attendance at the event, wearing a beige dress with silver sparkles on it. More Trending And last but by no means least, the stars of Emmerdale took to the red carpet. Beth Cordingly, who has captivated audiences as Ruby Miligan, was among those in attendance, wearing a black dress. Joe Tate star Ned Porteous, who is up for Best Villain, looked every bit as dapper as his scheming on-sceen alter-ego in a black suit. Amelia Flanagan, meanwhile, wore a black dress as she took to the red carpet. View More » The actress was at the centre of a huge story as April Windsor vanished without a trace only to return months later, revealing she had been living on the streets. 'Sumptuous' Netflix period drama fans 'can't believe' was filmed in the UK

Poldark is a historical drama series based on the eponymous novel series written by Winston Graham Penned and crafted by Debbie Horsfield, the acclaimed British telly series Poldark is a historical drama rooted in the namesake novel series authored by Winston Graham. The programme initially broadcast on BBC One for its entire five seasons, spanning from 2015 to 2019, adapting the initial seven of the twelve novels in Graham's series. The series can now be streamed on Netflix and BBC iPlayer. ‌ Set between 1781 and 1801, Poldark features Irish actor Aidan Turner in the role of the show's main character - Ross Poldark. Ross is a British Army veteran who served as an ensign in the American Revolutionary War. ‌ Upon his homecoming to Cornwall, Ross discovers his father has passed away and left his estate in shambles. The series chronicles his efforts to rebuild his fortune with the help of his maid-turned-wife, Demelza (Eleanor Tomlinson), whilst navigating his intricate relationships with his cousin Elizabeth Poldark (Heida Reed) and his adversary George Warleggan (Jack Farthing). With an impressive average score of 89 per cent across its five seasons on Rotten Tomatoes, one of Poldark's seasons even garnered a perfect 100 per cent score on the review aggregator site. Unsurprisingly, the show bagged the Audience Award at the 2016 BAFTA TV Awards, reports Surrey Live. ‌ Production of the series kicked off in Cornwall and Bristol in April 2014, with lead actor Aidan Turner sharing his thoughts on the beautiful Cornish set of Poldark during an interview with PBS: "It was an amazing experience, we were so lucky. We spent about 10 weeks there and we were all over Cornwall. There was a week we had a private, family owned beach to ourselves, in St Alstal. They just gave it to us for the week while we got the best of the British summer. It was just so idyllic, the entire shoot, everything was just so stunning. "People aren't going to believe we shot it in the UK, they'll think we went to Florence or the South of France or something, because it was actually just too beautiful. There wasn't a cloud in the sky. You don't have to leave the British mainland to find that sort of Paradise." ‌ Critics consistently expressed positive sentiments towards Poldark throughout its five series run, with one saying: "Such is my addiction to this particular genre that I obviously snorted the entire thing." While a reviewer wrote: "Poldark has proved such a reliable source of Sunday comfort and joy." Another added: " series delivers immediately on the panoramic scenery and romance that this genre demands: plunging cliffs, green fields, galloping horses and burning glances aplenty." ‌ Drawing comparisons to a timeless piece of literature, one critic likened the show to a Brontë classic, writing: "Much in the vein of Wuthering Heights, the series mixes class distinctions and romance, offering the kind of classy soap that should help keep Anglophiles' cockles happily warmed between now and more Downton Abbey." One reviewer said: "It's ridiculous, it's sumptuous, it's perfect summer sorbet." ‌ Fans are not holding back their adoration, with one saying: "It's literally the finest TV show I have ever watched. From the sumptuous scenes of Cornwall to the characters bulging with life and energy the show delivers at every turn." Adding praise to the protagonist, a viewer said: "Aidan Turner is a dream casting as the venerable Ross Poldark who is charmingly human, fraught with failing and as one of the best protagonists I have ever seen. Debbie Horsfield writes the scenes with skill and sensitivity. The direction is consistent and seems to provide a level of satisfaction that a viewer will not be prepared for." Finally, another audience member added: "Poldark has everything I look for in a TV series: great characters, adventure, drama, joy, romance, inspiration, and feel good moments. The acting and the story are not exaggerated like in a soap opera." One impressed viewer said: "Got hooked quick. The characters are so well casted that they jump out at you and are so believable. Each episode is a roller coaster and twists and turns here and there. Funny in spots and sad in others . It's a fun ride." A fellow fan wrote: "I love and adore this series. Eleanor Tomlinson is an extremely gifted Actress, incredibly talented."
