General Hospital star Kate Mansi weds Matt McInnis in surprise ceremony
General Hospital star Kate Mansi married producer Matt McInnis in downtown LA on Saturday following an 11-month engagement. The 37-year-old bride and the 41-year-old groom surprised their 115 guests, who believed they were attending a long-delayed engagement party, with a full-blown wedding at cathedral-turned-restaurant Redbird. 'We wanted that eruption of joy, that moment where love just takes over the room,' Kate (born Katharine Morris) told People on Tuesday. 'The element of discovery was everything. The relief when the secret was out was unforgettable.' Mansi and McInnis even donned 'decoy' ensembles before she changing into her 'dream' Newhite wedding dress from LOHO Bride, and he changed into a custom suit from Malibu Clothes. Ark actor Thomas Dekker officiated the couple's nuptials which were also attended by Fluxx actress Shelley Hennig, Home Improvement alum Jonathan Taylor Thomas, Wonder Years alum Alley Mills, and The Rookie's Britt Robertson. It was Hennig who originally brought Kate and Matt together since they met at her birthday party 'a few years ago' before going Instagram official in 2023. During the vows, Mansi revealed: 'We put a hand on our own hearts and said, "I got you," then did the same to each other. We invited our community to join us in that vow — to support us and each other.' The Daytime Emmy winner added of their 'deeply personal' ceremony: 'The entire evening was meant to mirror our relationship - unexpected, full of humor, moving to its own rhythm, and rooted in deep connection.' The Toronto-born Canadian stated that he's 'never met a braver human being than Katie.' 'She inspires me. She makes everyone around her better by nurturing qualities in them which even they may not see at first,' McInnis gushed. 'Her ability to love with her whole heart and wide eyes is the greatest gift a person could ever receive.' The formerly long-distance pair added: 'Marriage to us is building [life] brick by brick with a partner who's truly all in.' Kate and Matt are already proud parents to 20-month-old Doodle siblings, Stanley and Georgie, whom they adopted in November 2023. McInnis is headed for London soon to begin producing a new project with Amazon MGM Studios. Mansi is the fourth actress to portray Kristina Davis in ABC soap opera General Hospital, who's the troubled daughter of mob boss Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and attorney Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn). The SoCal native previously played Abigail Deveraux in NBC soap opera Days of Our Lives from 2011-2016.

US investment firm Redbird agrees to buy Britain's venerable Telegraph newspaper
US investment firm Redbird agrees to buy Britain's venerable Telegraph newspaper (AP) LONDON: A consortium led by US investment firm RedBird Capital Partners has agreed to buy the publisher of Britain's 170-year-old Daily Telegraph newspaper for about 500 million pounds ($674 million), the two sides said Friday. Redbird said it has reached an agreement in principle to become controlling owner of the Telegraph Media Group, ending a lengthy takeover saga for the conservative-leaning newspaper. Gerry Cardinale, founder and managing partner of RedBird, said the sale "marks the start of a new era for The Telegraph as we look to grow the brand in the UK and internationally, invest in its technology and expand its subscriber base." The group, previously owned by Britain's Barclay family, was put up for sale two years ago to help pay off the family's debts. It published the daily and Sunday Telegraph newspapers and weekly newsmagazine The Spectator, which all are closely allied to Britain's Conservative Party. In 2023 there was an offer to buy the publications from RedBird IMI, a consortium backed by RedBird Capital Partners and Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, a member of Abu Dhabi's royal family and the vice president of the United Arab Emirates. But the consortium pulled out last year following strong opposition from the UK government, which launched legislation to block foreign state ownership of the British press. The Spectator was sold separately in September to British hedge fund investor Paul Marshall. Telegraph Media Group chief executive Anna Jones said, "RedBird Capital Partners have exciting growth plans that build on our success - and will unlock our full potential across the breadth of our business."

The university stated that the training facility will now serve as 'the primary hub of ASU's Bachelor of Commercial Aviation (B.C.A) degree program' and has features such as: Large lobby modeled like an aircraft hangar Pre- and post-flight briefing room Large meeting room Technologically advanced classrooms Faculty offices Breakroom Advanced aircraft engine training displays Simulator Room with six industry-standard Redbird flight simulators Funding for the new ASU facility came from both public and private sources, including a $2 million federal grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration, a $2 million local grant from the City of San Angelo Development Corporation, a $2 million gift from ASU supporter Richard Mayer and a $4.2 million gift from an anonymous donor. COSA swears in new City Council representatives 'This new facility is more than just an expansion of our program – it's a clear reflection of the university's dedication and the unwavering support of our partners and donors,' Dr. Scott Turner, B.C.A. program director, said. 'Like all the faculty and staff at ASU, we are passionate about our students' success, and this facility allows us to deliver a dynamic learning experience that prepares them for high-impact aviation careers.' The university said that it 'enrolled its first students in the B.C.A. program in fall 2021, produced its first graduates in spring 2024, a year ahead of schedule, and has now graduated over 30 students through the program.' It also said 'there are already 80 new students enrolled for the upcoming fall semester,' bringing the program's student total to around 250, which ASU reported is 'more than triple the initial programs.' On top of the growth of the aviation program's student population, the ASU/Skyline Aviation fleet of Diamond aircraft has expanded from the initial eight planes to the current 27 planes of various sizes. 'The success and advancement of our commercial aviation program has surpassed even our most optimistic expectations,' ASU President Ronnie D. Hawkins said. 'We are already graduating pilots and aviation administrators who will help fill dire needs within the aviation industry, and we will soon be graduating air traffic controllers, as well. But the continued growth of our program is essential because those industry needs are not going away, and this outstanding new facility will give us even greater forward momentum as we prepare our students for careers that matter in an industry that keeps the world moving.' The college also stated that, 'with the continued development and expansion of ASU's commercial aviation program, not only will students in the region get to stay home to prepare for fundamental roles in the aviation sector, but the program will also continue to attract even larger numbers of students from across the state and the nation.' A chic new Turkish and Middle Eastern mezze bar has landed in Redfern
Slow-cooked onion dolmas stuffed with rice and minced beef, flavoured with cinnamon, currants and pine nuts and served with garlic-spiked yoghurt. Succulent charred chicken sitting on a bed of fruity harissa with pickled peppers and parsley oil. Fresh and vibrant fattoush with crisp lavosh, crunchy radish and a zesty, lemony dressing. These are just some of the dishes on the menu at Mezepotamia, a chic new Turkish and Middle Eastern mezze restaurant, now open in Redfern. If you think the name sounds familiar, that's because Mezepotamia originally opened in 2021 in Leichhardt, but has found its new home in Redbird 's former (and very chic) digs. The white stone flooring and exposed brick walls remain, now complemented with traditional artwork and earthy furnishings. 'We wanted to create a space that celebrates the warmth and generosity of Middle Eastern dining,' says Enes Yakan, who co-owns Mezepotamia alongside partner Jessica Paatiño. 'Mezepotamia isn't just about food, it's about the experience of coming together, sharing and enjoying the moment,' Yakan adds. The menu takes inspiration from the flavours of Turkey and the broader Middle East, with head chef Burak bringing three decades of experience – spanning Turkish, Greek and Italian cuisines – to the table. Other menu highlights include octopus with butter beans, lemon, coriander and fresh chilli; twice-cooked chat potatoes with feta cream and ras el hanout; and kibbeh, which sees hand-minced beef tartare served with bulgur, Turkish spices, pickles and fresh mint. For dessert, you could opt for the kunefe – a traditional Middle Eastern treat – with crisp shredded pastry layered over cheese, perfumed with cardamom syrup and served with pistachio ice cream. Signature cocktails include the Charcoal Limeade, a dark riff on the Margarita made with tequila, lime, charcoal agave syrup and finger lime; and our pick, the Watermelon Spritz – a fun and well-balanced number with gin and lemon. Coming with a group? Opt for the $79 per person share set menu, which includes Turkish bread, hummus, halloumi, lamb, potatoes and more. (We're coming back for the onion dolmas. And the potatoes.)

These are all of L.A.'s 2025 James Beard Awards finalists
The votes for 2025 are in: Six L.A. chefs, restaurants, bars, bakeries and writers have been named James Beard Awards finalists. Known widely as the 'Oscars of food,' the awarding body recognizes chefs, restauranteurs, bar directors, authors and journalists across the nation. While the restaurant and chef awards were first announced on April 2, the media awards weren't announced until today. Whittled down from 16 semifinalists, just three L.A. County chefs, restaurants and bakeries have advanced to the final round: Kato 's Jon Yao in 'Best Chef: California' category; Redbird 's Tobin Shea in 'Outstanding Professional in Cocktail Service'; and Gusto Bread in Long Beach—which I consider one of the city's best bakeries, and totally worth the drive—for 'Outstanding Bakery.' In the media category, three local journalists from the Los Angeles Times have picked up nominations. Critic Bill Addison received a nomination in 'Dining and Travel' for his guide to San Francisco and columnist Jenn Harris was also recognized for her work in the 'Craig Claiborne Distinguished Criticism' category. In 'Home Cooking,' senior editor Danielle Dorsey received a nomination for her recipe and reporting package on Black Thanksgiving traditions. Within Southern California, a few of our neighbors in Orange County also picked up nominations: Anaheim tiki bar Strong Water (Outstanding Wine and Other Beverages Program) and Daniel Castillo of San Juan Capistrano's Heritage Barbecue (Best Chef: California). The James Beard Foundation's annual awards 'recognize exceptional talent in the culinary and food media industries.' For 2025, the 35th edition, the foundation has added three new bar-focused categories. Last year, Lord Maynard Llera of Kuya Lord won 'Best Chef: California'
