Augusta National, TGR Foundation partner to bring Tiger Woods Learning Lab to Augusta

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – Augusta National Golf Club announced a partnership with Tiger Woods, his nonprofit TGR Foundation and the Richmond County School System to create a TGR Learning Lab in Augusta. The partnership was revealed in a Monday afternoon press conference at Augusta National by Augusta National chairman Fred Ridley along with Richmond County Board of Education president Shawnda Stovall and RCSS Interim Superintendent Dr. Malinda Cobb along with Jill Brown of . Ridley said Woods was originally scheduled to be present in person but could not because of the achilles injury that sidelined him from competition. Woods did leave a pre-recorded statement regarding his partnership. What an honor to be here and to have this moment to be a part of Augusta National, but just in a different way,' Woods said. 'To have the ability to design something that will impact the community.' The TGR Learning Lab will be the fourth of its kind. Woods opened the flagship lab in Anaheim, California in 2006. A second lab opened in Philadelphia in partnership with Cobbs Creek Golf Club and the Cobbs Creek Foundation. It will be located at the former Lamar Elementary School in the Harrisburg community. Chairman Ridley said that 2028 was a target date for completion. There's also another site being planned for Los Angeles. The announcement was made in conjunction with an announcement that Tiger Woods will take the lead in re-desigining the short course called The Patch, also known as the Augusta Municipal Golf Course. Ridley said the planned timeline for completion will be in time with The 90th Masters in 2026. When the Philadelphia lab opened, Woods declared it to be a fusion of the two things he loves most. 'It combines my passion for supporting youth through education and golf,' Woods said in . 'At the Learning Lab, we will provide opportunities for thousands of kids to learn, grow and chase after their dreams for many years to come.' The Philadelphia lab is a 30,000 square-foot facility with nine classrooms, a multi-purpose room, music recording room, podcast studio and a Full Swing golf simulator. The first location in Anaheim 'has served more than 200,000 students' according to the article, and at its inception, the Philadelphia lab was expected to serve more than 4,500 students annually. Augusta's learning lab should be a boon for the Richmond County School System's approximately 30,000 students. This is a developing story that will update throughout the day. RCSS gives update on its Long-Range Facilities Master Plan

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – The Richmond County School System is providing an update on progress relating to its Long-Range Facilities Master Plan this semester. 'As the district continues to assess future needs, there will be no changes to school buildings or facilities during the spring 2025 semester,' a statement released Feb. 28 reads. 'Conversations about facility planning will resume later this summer and fall, and the district encourages all stakeholders to participate.' In February 2024, school system officials released a draft of recommendations for the master plan, before the 1st phase was approved in March 2024. Dr. Malinda Cobb, Interim Superintendent of Schools, also released the following statement: 'We want our families and staff to feel settled about the state of our schools as we conclude the academic year, allowing us to maintain a strong focus on academic excellence and student success. At the same time, we know that to provide high-quality educational opportunities while being fiscally responsible, we must make thoughtful decisions about how we use our resources. Last spring, we received valuable feedback from our community on our proposed five-year consolidation plan, and we remain committed to ensuring those voices guide our next steps.' According to the school district, they plan to host public information meetings in the coming months concerning the plan. AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – The Richmond County School System (RCSS) is looking for feedback on proposed academic calendars for the 2026-27 and 2027-28 school years, in addition to input on school climate. According to a press release from RCSS sent on Feb. 12, they would like input on the calendar options students, parents, guardians, and community members. The two calendar choices are as follows: Calendar Option A: The first day for elementary school is Aug. 5, while K-8, magnet, middle, and high schools begin on Aug. 6. This option includes one PowerUp Asynchronous Learning Day per semester, allowing students to complete assignments remotely. Calendar Option B: All schools begin on Aug. 5, with four early release days throughout the year to provide additional opportunities for parent-teacher conferences. The deadline to submit feedback on the calendars is March 4, 2025. RCSS is also looking to receive school climate survey results on instruction, school environments and student support services. Parents and guardians can access the school climate survey through their child's school website. According to RCSS, the survey results will be presented to the Board of Education in March before a final recommendation is made during that month's meeting. 'The academic calendar and school climate play a critical role in shaping the learning experience, and we want to ensure that every voice is heard,' said Marcus Allen, assistant superintendent of Support Services. 'We encourage parents, students and community members to share their perspectives so we can create a school environment that supports success for all.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
