Billy Joel Cancels All Upcoming Performances Due to Medical Condition
Billy Joel is canceling all of his upcoming shows due to a health issue affecting his ability to perform, the musician announced Friday (May 23). In a statement shared to his social media accounts, he shared that the decision comes following a 'recent diagnosis' of normal pressure hydrocephalus. 'This condition has been exacerbated by recent concert performances, leading to problems with hearing, vision and balance,' his statement reads. 'Under his doctor's instructions, Billy is undergoing specific physical therapy and has been advised to refrain from performing during this recovery period. Billy is thankful for the excellent care he is receiving and is fully committed to prioritizing his health.' More from Billboard Billy Joel Postpones Tour Dates Following Surgery: 'My Health Must Come First' U2's Bono Calls for Hamas to 'Release the Hostages, Stop the War' During Ivor Novello Awards Speech Rob49 on Viral Stardom, 'Let Me Fly,' Collab Album With G Herbo & Making Music With Justin Bieber 'He is grateful for the support from fans during this time and looks forward to the day when he can once again take the stage,' the announcement continues, concluding with a message directly from Joel: 'I'm sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience, and thank you for understanding.' Fans with tickets to any of the 'Piano Man' singer's scheduled shows will receive automatic refunds to their original payment method. According to Cleveland Clinic, normal pressure hydrocephalus is a condition that occurs when cerebrospinal fluid builds up inside the skull, pressing on the brain. It can affect 'several brain-related abilities, including thinking and concentrating, memory, movement and more,' with treatment involving implanting a shunt to drain the excess fluid. Joel had several shows planned throughout the summer and fall of this year, as well as a few performances scheduled for the first half of 2026. His canceled appearances include his joint dates with Sting, Rod Stewart and Stevie Nicks, as well as his solo gigs. The Rock & Roll Hall of Famer previously delayed several of those tour dates by four months after revealing that he had recently undergone surgery. Joel did not disclose his medical condition at that time. 'While I regret postponing any shows, my health must come first,' he said in a statement in March. 'I look forward to getting back on stage and sharing the joy of live music with our amazing fans. Thank you for your understanding.' The five-time Grammy winner had been poised to make history on his trek, as his now-canceled shows at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, N.Y.; Metlife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.; and Citi Field in Queens, N.Y., would have made him the first artist to play all three NYC-area stadiums in one summer. 'Each [venue] holds personal significance to me,' Joel had told Billboard of the feat in early February. 'There's nothing like the energy of the crowds in New York.' Joel's health update comes shortly after it was announced that his upcoming two-part documentary, Billy Joel: And So It Goes, will premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in June. Later in the summer, the project will air on HBO. See Joel's post below. ETRUSCUS ADVANCES LARGE-SCALE RARE EARTH TARGET
VANCOUVER, BC, May 7, 2025 /CNW/ - Etruscus Resources Corp. (CSE: ETR) (OTC: ETRUF) (FSE:ERR) (the "Company" or "Etruscus") is pleased to provide an update on the Company's 100% owned Rock & Roll Property (the "Property") located in the prolific Golden Triangle of northwestern British Columbia. Additional assays and thin section analysis from the Hendrix target, located on the Pheno claims to the north of the Property, show that high-value Rare Earth Elements (or "REEs") are hosted by unique peralkaline igneous rocks. These rock types result from magmatic fractionation that accumulates REEs including the nationally important magnet metals terbium and dysprosium as well as critical minerals such as niobium and gallium. China, which currently produces 90% of the world's REEs, has recently announced major export restrictions on them, causing increases in demand and a sharp rise in the prices of these commodities. Fiore Aliperti, Etruscus' CEO, commented, "With global trade tensions escalating and robust long-term demand for critical minerals, especially rare earth elements continuing to define the political narrative, having a secure domestic supply is more important than ever. Our REE target represents a strategic opportunity not only for Etruscus, but for North America's broader effort to reduce reliance on foreign sources and support our domestic technologies within national security, clean energy and high-tech manufacturing." He went on to say, "We are excited about multiple opportunities at the Rock & Roll property but drilling at the Zappa target is still the number one priority. The team looks forward to completing the first-ever drill holes on the copper gold porphyry target this summer alongside advancement of the Hendrix REE target. Highlights On April 4 th 2025, the Government of China announced significant export restrictions on 7 heavy REEs used extensively across multiple industries including defense, automotive, and green energy. The Hendrix target contains enriched levels of all 7 elements. High-value REEs identified at Hendrix include dysprosium and neodymium, both essential components in permanent magnets used to power electric motors. Additional assays revealed elevated concentrations of niobium, beryllium, and gallium, all defined as critical minerals by the Canadian and US governments, further boosting the value of this target. USA Rare Earth Inc, the 80% owner of the geologically-similar Round Top REE Deposit, recently listed on the Nasdaq with a ~$1B USD market cap, demonstrating the market's appetite for REE producers. The Saskatchewan Research Council has begun producing North America's only domestic supply of rare earth magnet metals. Backed by over $15 million in Canadian government grants, this highlights the federal commitment to developing a domestic REE supply chain. Thin section analysis of 9 samples from Hendrix, confirms the presence of quartz-K-feldspar phyric rhyolites with volcanic textures and flow banding, demonstrating the unique, evolved nature of this target. Potential REE-host minerals include bastnäsite, zircon, and K-feldspar. Critical Elements Further research of the Hendrix rhyolite geochemistry has returned important insight into the REE potential of the target. Assay analysis has demonstrated strong enrichment in REE values especially those needed in the production of important magnet metals such as neodymium and dysprosium. The addition of other enriched critical minerals outside of the REEs such as niobium, beryllium and gallium are also encouraging and provide multiple opportunities for potential increases in shareholder value. Considering that these samples were taken randomly with no previous knowledge of grades, the team is encouraged with the initial findings and will look to expand on the size and controls of the highest grade REE mineralization. Key elements that are enriched at Hendrix include dysprosium, neodymium, gallium, tantalum, niobium, all situated on the Canada's Critical mineral list. Geology The scale of the REE target has also been validated through regional magnetic data analysis that suggests this extinct volcano has flows of at least 20 km 2 and a projected thickness >200m. Vancouver Petrographic recently completed thin section work confirming the rocks as being highly evolved rhyolites that formed as the final eruption of felsic lavas that concentrated the REEs in a volcanic system. These types of prospective rocks are rare across the globe. A schematic cross section of the volcanic feature is presented to demonstrate the size of the target. Overarchingly, these results point to the possibility of a very large mineralized REE system capable of containing significant REE resources on the Property. Global Demand China currently dominates the REE market, controlling 70% of global mining and 90% of global processing capacity. Recent export restrictions have sparked a sharp rise in North American demand, creating increased prices and renewed urgency for domestic production. With metal prices on the rise and governments actively supporting REE projects through grants and strategic incentives, the sector is set for substantial growth. These critical elements are incredibly important at a national level and at the heart of the global clean energy transition with uses in electric vehicles, solar technologies, and advanced electronics. This presents a compelling opportunity at the Rock & Roll Property and across the REE sector. Cyndi Lauper Feels 'Humbled' to Be Among the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame's Class of 2025 Inductees
Cyndi Lauper will be inducted into the 2025 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame She was previously nominated twice before. Lauper said she was "humbled" to receive the honor After two nominations, Cyndi Lauper is finally a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Inductee. On Sunday, April 27, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation unveiled the final list for the class of 2025, with the "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" hitmaker, 71, listed alongside Bad Company, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, OutKast, Soundgarden and The White Stripes in the performer category. For Lauper, who made her debut in 1983 and has become known for hits like "Time After Time" and "She Bop," the honor comes after being nominated for the Hall of Fame twice. The first time was in 2023 before she finally secured her place in 2025. "I'm humbled to be in the company of so many of my heroes - Aretha, Tina, Chaka, Joni, Wanda, to name just a few," Lauper wrote on Instagram, alongside a carousel of photos revealing all the inductees for 2025 while paying homage to female singers, like Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, Chaka Khan, Joni Mitchell and Wanda Jackson, who were all inducted into the Hall of Fame in the years prior. Chubby and Cyndi will soon join the rock hall of fame, but Phish will have to wait
The rock hall of fame's newest list of inductees would make for one crazy playlist. Cyndi Lauper and Joe Cocker? The White Stripes and Chubby Checker? Those performers and more were announced Monday as the hall's Class of 2025 by the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, which will honor them at a ceremony in November. Bad Company, Outkast and Soundgarden round out the list of performers, joined by Salt-N-Pepa and Warren Zevon, who are both getting the musical influence award. Producer-songwriter Thom Bell, keyboardist Nicky Hopkins and bassist Carol Kaye will be honored for their musical excellence — Kaye was part of thousands of studio sessions. And music executive Lenny Waronker will be recognized with the lifetime achievement award for non-performers, named for rock hall co-founder Ahmet Ertegan, who also co-founded Atlantic Records. To be considered for induction, a band or individual needs to have at least 25 years of commercial recording experience on their resume. Checker, Cocker, Outkast and Bad Company all got in this year on their first nomination, while the balance of the list had already been considered in the past. 'Each of these inductees created their own sound and attitude that had a profound impact on culture and helped to change the course of Rock & Roll forever,' Rock & Roll Hall of Fame chairman John Sykes said in a news release. 'Their music gave a voice to generations and influenced countless artists that followed in their footsteps.' The ballot presented to voters in February also included Mariah Carey, Billy Idol, Joy Division/New Order, Maná, Oasis and Phish, who did not make the cut. The hall's voter list comprises 1,200 artists, historians and music industry professionals. Phish, unsurprisingly, won the fan balloting with almost 330,000 votes, Billboard reported last week, but the first-time nominees will have to wait at least another year to get into the hall of fame. Same for Billy Idol, who finished third with 260,000 fan votes. Bad Company, Lauper and Cocker made it in despite finishing second, fourth and fifth with fans, respectively. Last year's performer inductees were Mary J. Blige, Cher, the Dave Matthews Band, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Kool & the Gang, Ozzy Osbourne and A Tribe Called Quest. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held Nov. 8. It will stream live on Disney+ and a special will air on ABC on a date to be determined. Hulu subscribers can see that special the day after that broadcast.
