Officials confirmed that poclain machines have already been deployed and desilting work is ongoing. The meeting was attended by chief engineer Ravinder Garg, executive engineers Ekjot Singh and Parshotam Singh, along with SDOs from the operations and maintenance (O&M) cell. This includes the nullah from Gurdwara Dukhniwaran Sahib to Shingar Cinema Road, and those in Dhokka Mohalla, Dharampura, Books Market, Domoria Bridge, and Barewal Drain. Field staff have also been directed to clean road gullies throughout the city before the monsoon begins. They must submit certificates confirming the work to higher authorities. Generator sets are being installed at all pumping stations to ensure rainwater can be drained even during power outages. Preparations are also being made to prevent waterlogging at railway under bridges (RUBs), including those on Pakhowal Road, near Lodhi Club, and Domoria Bridge. MC commissioner Dachalwal announced that a flood control room will be set up, and a helpline number will be shared with the public soon. Ground staff have been told to complete all arrangements in advance. Zonal commissioners have been instructed to monitor their respective areas closely. Commissioner Dachalwal will also conduct field inspections in the coming days to review the situation on the ground.

EC to set over 1 lakh polling booths for 2026 assembly elections

1 2 Kolkata: EC would set up over 1 lakh polling booths across the state for the 2026 assembly elections, said Bengal chief electoral officer (CEO) Manoj Kumar Agarwal on Tuesday. He said there were around 81,000 booths at present, but with EC's decision to have a maximum of 1,200 voters per booth, the number was expected to go up by over 22,000. There would be 309 booths at the Kaliganj bypoll, which will be held on Thursday, Agarwal said, adding the number of booths had to be increased from 261. Chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar had at a recent meeting in Delhi decided to cap the number of voters at 1,200 per booth. The poll panel wants voters to be able to find their booths within a kilometre or two. Consequently, the number of EVMs and VVPATs to be used will also increase. Bengal now has 7.6 crore total voters; 3.8 crore are male and 3.7 crore female. The number is expected to rise with EC pushing for a major voter enrolment drive from July. Booth level officers will be going door to door to help everyone aged 18 and above enrol on the voters' list. They will also make note of those who passed away or shifted homes, so that bogus voters are removed for the list. The location of the additional 22,000 booths will be finalised by July. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Todos os idosos deveriam ter um desse no banheiro! Consultations are ongoing with political parties and electoral registration officers (EROs) and sub-divisional officers (SDOs) on the matter. EROs are also holding talks with residents of multi-storied buildings where there are community halls, so that polling booths can be set up there, and also cater to nearby slums and housing societies. SDOs are looking for open spaces where booths can be installed for slum-dwellers.

Supporting Safer Skies: ANSI Unmanned Aircraft Systems Standardization Collaborative Releases May 2025 Gaps Progress Report

NEW YORK, May 19, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- To facilitate the safe integration of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) into the national airspace system, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) announced today the availability of the May 2025 Gaps Progress Report, a vital document capturing key standardization progress and opportunities for the rapidly evolving UAS industry. The Gaps Progress Report tracks how standards developing organizations (SDOs) are addressing 15 "gaps," or key challenges—ranging from airworthiness to flight operations—identified in the ANSI Unmanned Aircraft Systems Standardization Collaborative (UASSC)'s 2020 publication, Standardization Roadmap for Unmanned Aircraft Systems, which highlighted 71 areas needing attention for UAS integration. The report was compiled by ANSI staff based on inputs from standards developing organizations (SDOs), subject matter experts, and independent research. It lists newly published standards and new standards projects, alongside suggestions for future roadmap modifications. The report is not a consensus document, but rather is intended to serve as an interim "living document" that will be maintained and periodically re-published until such time as the UASSC develops a next version of the standardization roadmap. The UASSC was formed in 2017 to coordinate and accelerate the development of the standards and related conformance programs needed to facilitate the safe integration of UAS into the national airspace system of the United States. More than 400 individuals from 250 public- and private-sector organizations supported the standardization roadmap, including representatives of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), other U.S. federal government agencies, SDOs, industry, and academia. ANSI's facilitation of the UASSC is supported in part by contributions from the FAA. Cong leader Bhupinder Hooda: ‘Punjab move to curtail Haryana's water supply unconstitutional, inhuman'

The Punjab government's move to stop Haryana's water is 'unconstitutional, immoral and inhuman', former chief minister and Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Friday said, even as urged the BJP government in state to call a special Assembly session following an all-party meeting on water-sharing issues. 'Punjab government has no right to stop Haryana's water. Doing so is an attack on the federal structure. Haryana is not begging. This is the state's share of water, the quantity of which was decided under a proper agreement between the two states,' Hooda said. Addressing a press conference in Rohtak, he said, 'Pressure must be put on the Punjab government to prevent a water crisis in Haryana. But so far, the BJP government has failed miserably in securing Haryana's share of water. Due to BJP's incompetence, the people of Haryana may face a severe water shortage,' he warned. Hooda further accused the BJP government of ignoring repeated Congress warnings regarding water-sharing concerns. 'Despite Congress raising this issue in the assembly multiple times, the BJP government remained indifferent. Today, Punjab officials occupy all major posts in BBMB, leaving Haryana without representation or advocacy. The state is now facing the consequences,' he said. The former Chief Minister recalled that Haryana used to receive its full share of water during the Congress government, which ensured the state's active participation in the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB). 'There were three members from Haryana in BBMB, including an officer from the irrigation department. The Congress government regularly appointed SDOs and junior engineers in the board,' Hooda said. He pointed out that the Superintendent Engineer in the board should be from Haryana, as per rules, but no such appointment was made under the BJP government. 'When Haryana lacks representation in the board, who will speak for our rights?' he asked. Hooda accused the BJP of failing to advocate for Haryana's interests, saying, 'Despite the Supreme Court's verdict in favour of Haryana on SYL, the government has failed to secure water. Despite BJP ruling for the third term at both state and central levels, it has remained silent on SYL. Projects like SYL and Dadupur Nalvi were dismantled under BJP rule.'
