Saudi's ACWA Power reaffirms S'wak green hydrogen partnership, eyes NEOM-scale development

According to a press release, the visit underscores ACWA Power's commitment to replicate the scale and ambition of its flagship NEOM Green Hydrogen Project in Saudi Arabia for Sarawak. Currently under development, NEOM is the world's largest green hydrogen project, targeting 4GW of renewable power to produce 600 tonnes of green hydrogen per day. The US$8.4 billion initiative aims to position Saudi Arabia as a global leader in the hydrogen economy ― a vision aligned with Sarawak's clean energy vision. The collaboration is also part of ACWA Power's US$10 billion investment commitment to Malaysia, announced during the Asean-GCC Summit in May this year, with Sarawak expected to benefit from infrastructure, technology transfer, and economic spillovers. In Sarawak, ACWA Power and SEDCE are jointly exploring the development of a green hydrogen facility powered by up to 4GW of captive renewable energy, delivering 2GW of electrolyser capacity for both export and domestic decarbonisation. The companies formalised the basis of this collaboration through an agreement signed last year. Both parties are also in discussions with Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) to explore floating solar projects in Batang Ai and Murum hydroelectric dams, and with the State Ministry of Utilities and Telecommunications and the State Ministry of Energy and Environmental Sustainability to ensure regulatory alignment. The cooperation supports Sarawak's Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), and the Sarawak Hydrogen Economy Roadmap (HETR), while strengthening clean energy ties between Malaysia and Saudi Arabia. Hydrogen Refuelling Facility Now Operational At Petros MFS Batu Kawa
GENERAL KUCHING, July 15 (Bernama) -- The hydrogen (H₂) refuelling facility at Petros Multifuel Station (MFS) Batu Kawa is currently undergoing testing and commissioning, marking another major milestone in Sarawak's ongoing journey towards a hydrogen-powered future. SEDC Energy (SEDCE) said that the flagship station, built to meet international safety standards, is part of the Petros MFS Batu Kawa development. It offers a range of services including conventional fuels, electric vehicle (EV) charging, hydrogen refuelling, and quick-serve restaurants for nearby communities and road users. 'The station receives 120 kilogrammes of hydrogen molecules via tube trailers from the Darul Hana H₂ production plant, located about 10 kilometres away. The plant has a daily production capacity of up to 150 kilogrammes of hydrogen molecules. 'As part of the commissioning process, five Toyota Mirai Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEVs) managed by SEDC Energy (SEDCE) are being refuelled at the station to ensure all systems meet safety and performance standards," it said in a statement. It added that the vehicles are currently used by Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, Deputy Premiers, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan and Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian and SEDC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Husain. It also said that recently Dr Sim visited the MFS Batu Kawa station to witness the refuelling of his Toyota Mirai as part of the ongoing testing exercise. During the visit, he was also briefed on a historic milestone achieved on July 4, Malaysia's first interstation delivery of green hydrogen from Darul Hana to Batu Kawa which may also be the first of its kind in ASEAN. SEDC Energy (SEDCE), the new energy arm of the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) was established in 2019 to develop and drive Sarawak's hydrogen value chain and downstream oil and gas retail business under the Petros MFS brand. To date, SEDCE said 10 MFS stations are fully operational across Sarawak, including in Darul Hana (Kuching), Daro, Kanowit, Kuala Matu, Brooke Drive (Sibu), Selangau, Tatau, Kapit, Sungai Asap and Jepak. Four additional flagship stations are currently in the pipeline for Bintulu, Miri, Sibu, and Sri Aman.

As the offeror, a subsidiary of Nasdaq-listed GCL Global, now owns, controls or has agreed to acquire 104.1 million or 96.6 per cent of the group's total issued shares, it plans to compulsorily acquire all remaining unacquired shares and delist Ban Leong. With its percentage of publicly held shares now below the Singapore Exchange's 10 per cent free float requirement, shares of Ban Leong will be suspended from 9 am on Thursday. The counter closed flat on Wednesday at S$0.595, before the announcement. Oiltek : The vegetable and edible oil processing company is supporting a sustainable aviation fuel pilot plant programme by global technology provider Sulzer, who will be in collaboration with the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC). This programme will be executed through SEDC's new energy arm, SEDC Energy (SEDCE). The group said in a statement on Thursday it is in talks with SEDCE to explore the possibilities of involvement in the initiative, but that as at Thursday no definitive agreements have been entered into, and no formal plans have been finalised or approved by its board. Its shares closed flat at S$0.56 on Wednesday. Addvalue Technologies : The group announced on Thursday that it has secured several new orders totalling around US$1.5 million for its advanced digital radio-related business. These orders are for the supply of the company's proprietary highly compact software defined radio modules to customers in the defence technology industry. They will also increase Addvalue's order book from US$14.3 million as announced on Jun 26, to US$15.8 million. The counter closed flat at S$0.015 on Wednesday.

Sarawak's 11th Multifuel Station in Batu Kawa to open soon
KUCHING: The Petros Multifuel Station (MFS) in Batu Kawa is set to begin operations soon, making it the 11th MFS in Sarawak and the second flagship station in the state equipped with hydrogen dispensing capabilities. In a statement today, Sarawak Economic Development Corporation Energy (SEDCE) said the physical structure of the station has been fully completed, and the team is now working closely with regulatory authorities to ensure full compliance before commissioning. 'MFS Batu Kawa is the second flagship station after MFS Darul Hana. It is designed to offer conventional fuels, fast electric vehicle (EV) charging and hydrogen dispensing,' it said. According to the statement, MFS Batu Kawa will receive its hydrogen supply from MFS Darul Hana, which houses an on-site hydrogen production plant with a capacity of 150kg. 'The hydrogen will be transported via tube trailers, and a Mobile Hydrogen Refuelling System will be used to dispense the fuel. This distribution model is the first of its kind in the region,' it added. Earlier today, Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian visited the site and was briefed on the station's progress and key features. SEDCE also said that the Koperasi Bomba dan Penyelamat Malaysia (KOBOPEM) was appointed earlier this year as the operator of MFS Batu Kawa to support the cooperative in generating sustainable income for its members. To date, 10 multifuel stations are fully operational across Sarawak, namely in Darul Hana (Kuching), Daro, Kanowit, Kuala Matu, Brooke Drive (Sibu), Selangau, Tatau, Kapit, Sungai Asap, and Jepak. Meanwhile, SEDCE said four more flagship stations are in the pipeline in Sri Aman, Sibu, Bintulu, and Miri. Construction of the Bintulu station at Jalan Sultan Iskandar is expected to begin in the second half of this year. 'Three MFS are currently under construction, and more than 40 sites are in the planning and processing stages across Sarawak. 'Once completed, these stations will provide customers with a network of EV charging facilities in addition to conventional fuels,' it added.
