Dubai Police Distributes Over 325,000 Iftar Meals to Ensure Safer Roads During Ramadan

In a dedicated effort to enhance traffic safety and prevent accidents, Dubai Police has distributed more than 325,250 iftar meals to motorists as part of the 'Ramadan Without Accidents' campaign. Running since the start of the holy month, the initiative aims to curb reckless driving during the moments leading up to Maghrib (sunset prayer)—a time when many motorists rush to break their fast, often resulting in accidents. Addressing a Critical Time on the Roads Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Director of the General Department of Traffic, highlighted that the Traffic Awareness Department has implemented this initiative in collaboration with key partners, including the RTA, Dubai Civil Defence, Dubai Health Authority, Emirates Red Crescent, and several private sector entities, with the support of over 375 volunteers. Curbing Risky Driving Before Iftar Al Mazrouei noted that traffic violations and accidents peak during iftar time, with drivers speeding or jumping signals in an attempt to reach their destination before sunset. He urged motorists to plan ahead, follow traffic rules, and exercise patience, stressing that 'Arriving late and safe is better than not arriving at all.' A Spirit of Social Unity He further praised the volunteers and partner organizations, emphasizing that the campaign reflects the UAE's values of compassion and community solidarity. By promoting responsible driving and road safety, Dubai Police continues its mission to achieve a Ramadan free of accidents, ensuring the well-being of all road users. Dh500 fine in Dubai: No random parking during Taraweeh, Qiyam prayers, police warn

Dubai Police have urged motorists to comply with traffic regulations and refrain from illegal parking near mosques during Taraweeh and Qiyam prayers which falls in the last 10 days of Ramadan. This came as a response to the increased traffic congestion that often accompanies the surge in worshippers during this sacred period. The authority highlighted that previous years have seen various parking-related violations, such as illegal double parking that blocks other vehicles, parking on sidewalks that block pedestrian movement and disrupts the urban environment, and obstructing entire traffic lanes near intersections and busy roads. Additionally, extended stays at mosques after prayers have contributed to congestion and delays for other worshippers. In Dubai, motorists will be hit with a Dh500 fine for improper parking and illegal double parking and a Dh400 fine for stopping a vehicle in a way that blocks pedestrians' movement. Blocking roads with parked vehicles has been identified as a disruptive practice that negatively impacts traffic flow, particularly in residential neighbourhoods and along key thoroughfares. Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, emphasised the importance of maintaining a smooth traffic environment during this busy time. To tackle potential disruptions, Major General Al Mazrouei highlighted that traffic patrols will be intensified in coordination with the General Department of Protective Security and Emergency and various police stations. "Patrol teams will be deployed to secure prayer areas, manage traffic flow, and redirect vehicles if congestion occurs," he stated, underscoring the commitment to ensuring road safety. In an effort to maintain order, traffic patrols will be strategically positioned to manage parking areas at mosques, prevent traffic jams, and assist worshippers in entering and exiting safely. Dubai Police urges the public to be considerate of other road users and cooperate with authorities to maintain a safe and organised traffic environment during the final nights of Ramadan.

In an image posted on social media platform X, Dubai Police said the driver's actions jeopardised the child's safety and posed significant risks to other road users. Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, said the driver had been summoned and the vehicle confiscated. He added that children under the age of 10 or shorter than 145 cm are prohibited from sitting in the front seats under the UAE Federal traffic law. Dubai Police's smart detection systems recently detected a driver endangering his child's life by allowing the child to sit on his lap while driving. According to Federal Traffic Law, front-seat passengers must be at least 145 cm tall and over the age of 10. #RoadSafety — Dubai Policeشرطة دبي (@DubaiPoliceHQ) March 14, 2025 Explaining the dangers of seating children in the front seats of vehicles, Al Mazrouei said it exposes them to intense force of frontal collisions as seatbelts are designed for adults. "Furthermore, airbags deploy rapidly and with great force during crashes, which can result in severe injuries, particularly for younger children or those in unsafe positions," he added. Driving a vehicle in a manner that endangers the motorist's life or the lives of others is punishable by a fine of AED 2,000 in fines, 23 black points and 60 days of vehicle impoundment.

Caught on camera: Dubai Police snap BMW driver with child on his lap

A motorist in Dubai has been caught on camera driving with a child on his lap, putting both their lives at risk. The male driver of a BMW was summoned by the police and his vehicle was impounded after the serious traffic violation was picked up by Dubai Police's artificial intelligence-powered radar systems. Federal Traffic Law prohibits children under the age of 10 or those less than 145cm tall from sitting in the front seat of a moving vehicle. Driving in a way that poses a danger to a driver's life or the lives and safety of others can result in a Dh2000 fine and 23 black points according to Dubai Police's website. Maj Gen Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, director of the General Traffic Department at Dubai Police, said that allowing children to sit in the front of a vehicle exposes them to the risk of serious injury or death in an accident. A child could be thrown out of the vehicle by the force of the collision, as airbags and front seat belts are designed for adults. Dubai Police recently announced the installation of traffic cameras that can detect 17 traffic violations, including drivers failing to wear seat belts or modifications to make vehicle engines louder. The cameras capture videos of the offences. Members of the public are encouraged to report traffic violations using the Police Eye service on the Dubai Police smartphone app, or by calling 901. Speeding biker hits 330kph: In February, a motorcyclist was arrested after reaching speeds of 330kph on one of Dubai's busiest motorways. The speed limit on Sheikh Zayed Road (E11) is 120kph. The motorcyclist filmed himself weaving through traffic at 190pkh before reaching 330kph. Using two phones at the wheel: In November, cameras in Dubai helped police catch a driver using two mobile phones at once, and another reading a newspaper while on the road. In a video posted on their social media channels, Dubai Police said their technology could detect violations even if a vehicle's windscreen is tinted. Drivers arrested for pulling stunts in the rain: In 2023, a group of drivers were arrested after being filmed performing dangerous stunts in a rain-soaked car park. A viral video on social media showed a black 4x4 and a Toyota pickup doing doughnuts and drifting on the wet surfaces.
