Sephora Meadowhall debut sees massive turnout on opening day
Huge queues at a major shopping centre can only mean one thing, Sephora has come to town. This time it was Sheffield's Meadowhall getting the treatment with the launch of the French beauty retail giant's latest UK store. Over 1,000 customers queued, many from early Saturday morning, awaiting exclusive goodie bags for the first 500 customers. The new Sheffield store marks Sephora's first opening in Yorkshire and follows its Liverpool One debut in May. It also joins Manchester Trafford Centre, Newcastle Eldon Square, Gateshead Metrocentre, Birmingham Bullring, and Bluewater Shopping Centre in Kent. With further openings on the horizon – including Manchester Arndale, Oxford Westgate, and Cardiff St David's – Sephora 'is building momentum across the UK and bringing prestige beauty closer to more communities and regions' it said. Sephora UK managing director Sarah Boyd added: '2025 is shaping up to be one of our most exciting (and busiest) years yet at Sephora UK and bringing our beauty playground to Sheffield is a huge part of that momentum.' Meadowhall centre director Darren Pearce also said: 'This opening marks a major milestone for the centre, further elevating our premium beauty offering and reinforcing our position as one of the UK's leading shopping destinations. Due to Sephora's unique retail experience and exclusive product ranges we're confident it will become a go-to destination for beauty lovers across the region.' Sheffield customers can shop exclusive 'Only At Sephora' brands such as Haus Labs by Lady Gaga, Makeup By Mario, Merit Beauty and Tower 28 alongside other TikTok-viral favourites on the 'Hot on Social' table including Glossier, Rare Beauty, Sol De Janeiro and Kosas. Opening day events included live brand animations and giveaways from the likes of Tatcha, Aveda, Gisou, Caudalie, Rare Beauty, Summer Fridays, Ole Henriksen, Topicals, Tower 28, Merit Beauty, Dr Sam's, Fenty and Maria Nila. The celebrations continued across the weekend with in-store masterclasses and pro sessions 'designed to educate, inspire and empower beauty lovers'.

Hundreds queue for Sephora opening at Sheffield's Meadowhall
Shoppers queued through the night to be amongst the first through the doors at a new beauty the time it opened at 09:00 BST, about 1,000 people were lined up outside the new Sephora outlet at Sheffield's Meadowhall shopping centre The store, which sells make up, skin and hair care, is the brand's first shop in Yorkshire and ninth in the Wood, from Charnock, in Sheffield, who was among those waiting in the queue, said: "We saw it online on TikTok and I really wanted to go because I love all make up, skin care, hair stuff, and we came last night." "People see Sephora on social media and it's very big in America. I think that's why a lot of people follow the trend," she added."It's a lot of recommendations that people make on TikTok and social media – they say you need to try this brand, it's from Sephora." The first 500 customers through the door were given goodie bags. Ms Wood, who is a hairdresser, said she purchased a body spray, lip balm and some make launched in 1969 in Limoges, France, and now has 3,200 stores across the world. Other UK stores include Birmingham Bullring and Westfield, Boyd, Sephora UK managing director, told BBC Radio Sheffield it was "incredible" to see so many people queue up."It's incredibly humbling to see so many people here, and everyone is in an amazing mood," she said."We had about 1,000 by 06:00 BST and then the queue really started building after that."When we came to the UK, Meadowhall was one of the first malls we came to have a look around. So we knew we wanted to be here for as long as we've been looking for sites."It was just a question of working with the management here and getting the best location and getting it open." Sephora to open at Meadowhall next month
After the fanfare that accompanied the opening of Sephora's latest flagship opening in Liverpool, another is being prepared for Meadowhall Sheffield next month… then Manchester Arndale in the summer… and Cardiff St David's Centre in the autumn. '2025 is shaping up to be one of our most exciting (and busiest) years yet at Sephora UK,' said Sarah Boyd, managing director, Sephora UK. 'And bringing our beauty playground to Sheffield is a huge part of that momentum'. So next month (11 July) the French beauty retail giant opens its doors competing head-to-head with the new Superdrug, which opened there just last week (and whose owner is investing heavily in a further 25 new UK stores in 2025). Darren Pearce, centre director at Meadowhall, said: 'The iconic brand will be a fantastic addition to our premium beauty offering and, alongside our other recent openings including Bershka, Frasers, and Oliver Bonas, reinforces our position as one of the UK's top shopping destinations.'
