Sephora to open at Meadowhall next month
After the fanfare that accompanied the opening of Sephora's latest flagship opening in Liverpool, another is being prepared for Meadowhall Sheffield next month… then Manchester Arndale in the summer… and Cardiff St David's Centre in the autumn. '2025 is shaping up to be one of our most exciting (and busiest) years yet at Sephora UK,' said Sarah Boyd, managing director, Sephora UK. 'And bringing our beauty playground to Sheffield is a huge part of that momentum'. So next month (11 July) the French beauty retail giant opens its doors competing head-to-head with the new Superdrug, which opened there just last week (and whose owner is investing heavily in a further 25 new UK stores in 2025). Darren Pearce, centre director at Meadowhall, said: 'The iconic brand will be a fantastic addition to our premium beauty offering and, alongside our other recent openings including Bershka, Frasers, and Oliver Bonas, reinforces our position as one of the UK's top shopping destinations.'

Sephora's Liverpool One store finally opens
By Nigel TAYLOR French beauty giant Sephora arrived at Liverpool One on Thursday (22 May), welcoming nearly 1,000 shoppers, many who had queued for the 09:00 opening. First announced last autumn and following a 'hugely successful' launch in the North East, Sephora's North West England debut takes up a 6,727 sq ft cornerstone unit at a key entrance to Liverpool One's South John Street. Sephora UK's MD Sarah Boyd said: 'We have had immense demand from our fans in Liverpool to open a store in their city. Liverpool has been a key location in our brand expansion plans, and we were prepared to wait for the right opportunity, which this prominent Liverpool One unit provides.' Rob Deacon, Asset Management director at Liverpool One, added: 'Sephora is a brand that represents exactly what [we look] for when adding to our line-up. It is globally celebrated, has a huge base of loyal fans, and delivers a bold, compelling concept. Consumer demand for Sephora is strong in Liverpool, and securing best-in-class retailers and experiences for the city is precisely what we aim to achieve at the destination, so the entrance of this beauty powerhouse is a natural partnership.' Liverpool will be the eighth store in Sephora UK's growing physical retail portfolio, which includes stores in Westfield London and Stratford City, Manchester's Trafford Centre, Newcastle's Eldon Square, Gateshead Metrocentre, Birmingham Bullring and Bluewater in Kent.

Popular shop in Cardiff city centre shuts suddenly
Popular shop in Cardiff city centre shuts suddenly The Australian chain opened its first Welsh store six years ago Shoppers have noticed the doors have been closed for several days (Image: Lois McCarthy ) Popular stationery and gift store Typo has officially closed its store in Cardiff's St David's Centre. It brings an unexpected end to its six-year presence in the city. The Australian brand opened in St David's in 2019 selling a range of quirky stationery, homeware, gifts, and tech accessories. It was a favourite among the city's students. The closure has left many surprised, as the store often appeared busy. To add to the confusion, Typo's Cardiff branch is still listed as open on Google, with regular operating hours still showing. There were also no typical signs of a store winding down—no sales, no notices, and no explanation. The shutters simply came down and have remained closed for several days. While the reason behind the closure remains unknown, Cardiff isn't the only location to see a sudden shutdown; with Typo's store at Westquay in Southampton also closing without warning back in April. St David's has now confirmed to WalesOnline that Typo has permanently closed, with a spokesperson stating: "We can confirm that Typo at St David's has now closed, and we look forward to announcing an exciting new brand in the coming weeks." Though the Cardiff location is still listed on Typo's website, the closest open branch is now at Bristol's Cribbs Causeway, about 41 miles away. Footwear chain Deichmann also recently closed, with its unit quickly filled by fashion retailer Mango. The Spanish fashion retail chain is known for its contemporary and Mediterranean-inspired clothing. Meanwhile, there's growing excitement around the arrival of Sephora, which will open later this year in the former Victoria's Secret unit. It's the first Sephora UK store outside of England, with the US brand being hugely popular with beauty fans. No exact date has been revealed but WalesOnline has been told exclusively that the brand will be opening in the autumn Sephora UK's MD Sarah Boyd said: 'Opening our first UK store outside of England is a huge milestone for Sephora and we're incredibly excited to be coming to Cardiff." Article continues below There's no word yet on what will replace Typo, but more announcements from St David's are expected soon.
