Cheshire hosts USATF Connecticut Half Marathon
CHESHIRE, Conn. (WTNH) — The Cheshire Road Race had a special designation on Sunday. This year, it was the host of the 2025 USA Track and Field Connecticut Half Marathon. Elite runners gathered from all across the state to compete on a course through Cheshire, Hamden and along the Farmington Canal. Runners compete in 15th annual Savin Rock Marathon 'It was really high energy,' said Laura Mongillo from Cheshire. 'We usually watch the race from our neighborhood, and the energy's usually really good in the community, too, so it was great — we have lots of community support.' After the race, runners and spectators enjoyed a 'Healthy Living Festival' with food, vendors and health services. Relay race puts runners against steam train, benefits local causes
ESSEX, Conn. (WTNH) — People from all across the country took to Essex on Sunday for the Steam Train Half Marathon and Relay. People from at least 21 states came to the event. Runners compete in 15th annual Savin Rock Marathon Runners took off from Essex Station, following the Connecticut River and tagged partners at the Deep River Station with the goal making it back to Essex in under two hours and 20 minutes, the time it takes the train to travel the route. It is one of only two half marathons worldwide where runners compete against a historic steam train. The event was all for a good cause, money was raised for behavioral healthcare services and three local non-profits. 'I'm so excited its not raining I've been training for 10 weeks thinking 'I hope it doesn't rain, I hope it doesn't rain' and its a beautiful March day,' said runner Kate Banker. Runners compete in 15th annual Savin Rock Marathon
WEST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Runners came from all over the state to participate in the 15th annual Savin Rock Marathon on Saturday. The race takes runners on a 13-mile loop of the city. Marathon runners ran the loop twice. 'Johnny's Jog' raises money to support those with chronic illnesses Thankfully for the those running on Saturday, the weather cooperated. 'Usually this time of year, it's a little bit shadier for the weather, but, beautiful out, fifty degrees, can't ask for better weather,' said Aiden Neilotero. Runners say this is one of their favorite races in the state. 'I just started running on the treadmill, and then I started running outside, and I really enjoyed it, and I was like 'eh, might as well,' and the weather seems nice,' Taylor Tripodi said.
