At least 1,000 camels compete in Sharjah 1,500 metre race

Under the patronage of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, Al Dhaid Camel Race Track hosted the Fatameen race for locally bred camels on Saturday. The event was organised and supervised by the Sharjah Camel Racing Club. A total of 1,000 young camels bred by members of local tribes competed across 18 heats, including eight for female participants from Al Dhaid, six in the open category, and four in the Saoub class. The race covered a distance of 1,500 metres. The event highlighted the growing enthusiasm for camel racing in Sharjah and the continued support of traditional heritage sports. WAM

The event was organised and overseen by the Sharjah Camel Racing Club and included 18 races in total: 8 races for local Al Dhaid owners (joint), 6 open category races, and 4 for the Saoub category, all over a distance of 1,500 metres. The event was attended by H.E. Abdullah Mohammed bin Huwaiden Al Ketbi, Chairman of the Sharjah Camel Racing Club, alongside large crowds of camel owners and enthusiasts. At the end of the festival, Abdullah Mohammed bin Huwidan Al Ketbi, Chairman of the Sharjah Camel Racing Club, awarded the winners in the presence of notable figures. Highlights of the competitions Abdullah Mohammed bin Huwidan confirmed that the competitions at the Abdullah Al Muhayan Al Ketbi Festival showcased the excellence of many well-known brands in the camel racing world, amid strong competition for victory. He also praised the support of Rashid Al Muhayan Al Ketbi for sponsoring the organization of this festival. 16 competitive rounds The race programme featured 16 rounds dedicated to the weaning age category, spanning a distance of 1,500 meters. These included eight rounds for female camels from Al Dhaid, four challenging rounds exclusive to Al Dhaid residents, and four open rounds, showcasing a range of young racing talent. Celebrating Arab heritage His Excellency Abdullah Mohammed Mu'adhd bin Huwaiden Al Ketbi, Chairman of the Sharjah Camel Racing Club, highlighted the cultural importance of camel racing as a cherished Arab tradition. He praised the unwavering support of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah in preserving this heritage through year-round sponsorship of camel racing events. Al Ketbi noted that the "weaning age" races, held through a direct grant from His Highness, play a vital role in passing on the values and traditions of this historic sport to younger generations, ensuring its continuity and cultural significance.

Qatar's Efforts Praised He acknowledged the significant contributions of the Qatari committee in advancing camel racing within Qatar and the wider GCC region, as well as encouraging public participation in this traditional sport. He particularly noted the impressive developments at the Al Sheehaniya camel racing track in recent years. Continued Cooperation Confirmed Abdullah Mohammed Al Kuwari reaffirmed the commitment to collaborate with the Sharjah Camel Racing Club to ensure the success of various races, events, and championships, supporting the joint efforts of both parties in promoting and enhancing the sport.
