Coronation Street star Katie McGlynn is set to cook up a storm in the kitchen on Celebrity MasterChef. The former Waterloo Road actress will appear alongside Blue singer Antony Costa, Love Island beauty Uma Jammeh and RuPaul's Drag Race star Ginger Johnson when the hit BBC One show returns later this year. 31-year-old McGlynn played Sinead Tinker in the ITV soap and started getting into food after leaving the famous Wetherfield cobbles. Coronation Street star 'signs on for Celebrity MasterChef' after their character died on the ITV soap

A Coronation Street star has reportedly signed on for Celebrity MasterChef after their character died on the ITV soap. According to The Sun, Katie McGlynn is set to swap the cobbles for the kitchen as she will cook up a storm to impress judges John Torode and Grace Dent. The actress, 31, played the role of Sinead Tinker until the character tragically died of cervical cancer back in October 2019. A TV source reportedly told the publication: 'The celebrity version of Masterchef has already been filmed and there's a great mix of people this year including Katie. 'She brings a bit of glamour as well as that northern sense of humour. Viewers are going to be really impressed with the standard this year. 'Katie is all about making healthy, balanced meals and wanted to see how far she could push her cooking skills on a show like Masterchef.' MailOnline has contacted a representative of Katie for details. Katie is no stranger to celebrity competition shows and she has also appeared on BBC's Strictly Come Dancing. Back in 2021, the star admitted she questioned whether she was 'good enough' or 'cut out' for acting following her Coronation Street departure in 2019. The actress said her decision to exit the soap after six years 'backfired' when her career stalled, but asserted she doesn't regret leaving. Reflecting on the drought in work opportunities she faced due to the pandemic, she said to The Sun on Sunday: 'I put all my energy into the universe, expecting amazing big things, and then it all backfired.' Her heartbreaking final scenes aired in October of 2019, with fans left in tears as Sinead passed away, leaving husband Daniel devastated. She subsequently landed a promising new role in The Syndicate on BBC One and was throwing herself into new auditions. However, with the coronavirus outbreak stagnating TV production, Katie admitted she had struggled to remain upbeat about her future prospects. She added: 'I'm quite a positive person, I'm someone who tries to bring everybody up, but I have moments where I'm like: "What am I doing? Why have I chosen this career? Am I even good enough? Is it me? Am I just not cut out for this career?"' With hindsight, she confirmed that she left Coronation Street at 'the worst time,' but on the flip side, she said she would have 'regretted not leaving more than taking a chance'. According to the publication, other rumoured names for Celebrity MasterChef are Blue's Antony Costa, Love Island's Uma Jammeh and RuPaul's Drag Race star Ginger Johnson. Although a return date is yet to be revealed, the cooking competition is thought to be returning to screens later this year. It comes after boxing legend Amir Khan has revealed he turned down two major television shows after being approached by BBC bosses - including Celebrity MasterChef. The 38-year-old professional boxer, who participated in the 2017 series of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! was in the running for both Strictly Come Dancing and Celebrity MasterChef last year. However, he decided to turn both offers down. He told Betway: 'I have been asked to do Strictly Come Dancing so maybe I would do that.' He continued: 'I have been asked to do Celebrity MasterChef recently, but I couldn't do the filming this year.' Amir said he would consider signing up for either show in the future if the timing worked out. He explained: 'There are a lot of shows but it's hard to get the time.' He also admitted that he enjoys taking part in television shows because they allow people to see the 'real him'. However, Amir emphasized that he is selective and will only participate in 'top shows'. Despite his willingness to appear on more programs, the boxer isn't desperate for the paycheck.
