The actress, who also appeared on BBC's Strictly Come Dancing, jumped at the chance to show off her culinary skills when approached to take part earlier this year.
A TV source said: 'The celebrity version of Masterchef has already been filmed and there's a great mix of people this year including Katie.
'She brings a bit of glamour as well as that northern sense of humour.
'Viewers are going to be really impressed with the standard this year.'
Katie, who is dating former TOWIE star Ricky Rayment, looked sensational as she walked the red carpet at the Television BAFTAs last weekend.
After leaving Corrie back in 2019, Katie admitted that she struggled with comfort eating following her character Sinead Tinker's harrowing death.
The following year she won the NTA for Serial Drama Performance and embarked on a health and fitness programme and started cooking meals from scratch.
The source added: 'Katie is all about making healthy, balanced meals and wanted to see how far she could push her cooking skills on a show like Masterchef.'
Food critic Grace Dent joined John Torode to host the show after taking over from Greg Wallace.
The show is expected to air in the coming months.
Celebrity MasterChef has been contacted for comment.

Salman Rushdie says he's ‘over' vicious knife attack

Salman Rushdie believes authors should worry about AI when it can write funny books, stating AI currently lacks a sense of humor. Speaking at the Hay Festival, Rushdie admitted he has never tried using AI and prefers to ignore its existence. The event marked Rushdie's most high-profile UK appearance since the 2022 on-stage stabbing in the US, with heightened security measures in place. Rushdie mentioned it was important for him and his wife to revisit the site of the attack, and he expressed being "over" the incident. Rushdie has faced threats since the 1988 publication of ' The Satanic Verses,' which led to a fatwa calling for his execution by Iran's Ayatollah Khomeini.

On Saturday 31 May, the popular ITV talent show aired its 2025 final, where a total of 11 acts performed for the last time, each hoping to win the public's favour and be crowned BGT 2025 champion. The line-up comprised 10 acts who had been voted through to the final, plus one wildcard act, Han and Fran. Finalists included The Blackouts, Vinnie McKee, Olly Pearson, Stacey Leadbeatter, Jasmine Rice, Ping Pong Pang, Joseph Charm, Hear Our Voice, Harry Moulding and Binita Chetry, reports Belfast Live. However, it was magician Harry who emerged victorious, securing the coveted 2025 Britain's Got Talent title. (Image: ITV) (Image: ITV) For his routine, Harry performed an impressive magic trick that involved a video of him skydiving. In the clip, he correctly guessed each of the judges' cards, as well as on stage. As part of the magic trick, Harry had 50 pieces of paper, each with a word describing his BGT experience. Simon picked one, and Harry correctly guessed that the piece of paper said 'dream' at the end. However, viewers were quick to share their theories on how he managed the impressive feat. Meanwhile, other fans were left in awe, praising the talented magician. Twitter was buzzing with varied reactions to the #BGTFinal magician's performance, as one person posted: "How much AI on the #BGTFinal magician's video?", another questioned the magic by commenting: "Not my cup tea this AI magic #BGTFinal", and one simply stated: "AI #BGTFinal". There were sceptics too, with tweets such as "#BGT he can see the card in the camera" and "They have all put their card on the top #BGT." The method behind Harry's astounding magic act remains a mystery, yet it left many viewers gobsmacked. Admirers of Harry's act were not shy to express their support, with someone remarking: "I'm not usually a fan of magicians but this guy is brilliant and really enjoyable to watch #BGTFinal", while others showed their backing with statements like: "I dont care what anyone says but Harry Moulding deserves to win. All my votes goes to him #BGTFinal" and "Really want harry to win he's amazing #BGTfinal." In an earlier episode, following a standout performance, Harry secured KSI's Golden Buzzer, catapulting him straight into the final, where he surprised his girlfriend—and the audience—with an onstage marriage proposal.
