‘It is a damaging reinforcement of gender-based disrespect' — Moja Love condemns MacG's derogatory language
Moja Love released a statement on social media condemning the behaviour of MacG for using offensive language towards women. "MacG's persistent use of derogatory language towards women, reducing them to vulgar slurs and objectifying their bodies, is not only offensive, it is a damaging reinforcement of gender-based disrespect. Such behaviour has no place in society and media specifically, where voices should uplift, not degrade. Moja Love (DStv 157) as a platform is committed to fostering a respectful and inclusive environment. We refuse to stay silent. "Misogyny on air doesn't only harm the individuals targeted, it perpetuates a toxic culture that normalises the dehumanisation of women. Yesterday we took a firm stance against this conduct, and we will continue to challenge such rhetoric whenever it arises. Media is designed to shape societal norms, and with that influence comes responsibility. To MacG and others who use their platforms carelessly: accountability is not optional. We urge audiences and broadcasters alike to reject sexist vitriol and demand better. Respect isn't a privilege, it's a right." The channel has also received flack for airing a recent episode of the reality show Isencane Lengane. The show, in its seventh season, which follows the lives of Siyacela Dlamuka and Thando Msomi, who married when they were teenagers, sparked outrage among viewers, with many raising concerns about the couple's toxicity. According to Moja Love, Isencane Lengane is designed to contribute to the discourse on gender-based violence and societal ills, with the aim of raising awareness and promoting positive change. Moja Love said they are committed to providing psychological support to affected members, including Thando, who was affected by events depicted in the show, and would continue to offer support. 'It is important to note the show is a reality show which reflects, explores and raises awareness and contributes to the discourse on gender-based violence and societal ills. The channel has through many of its social justice programmes played a pivotal role in shaping discourse and contributing positively in society,' read the statemen t.

Activist groups demand that Moja Love cancels 'Isencane Lengane'
Pressure is mounting on Moja Love to can its show Isencane Lengane. Isencane Lengane airs on Sundays. The show follows the lives of a young married couple, Siyacela Dlamuka and Thando Msomi, who married when they were teenagers. A recent episode sent shockwaves through social media, with viewers and activist groups expressing their disaffection and demanding the show's cancellation over its depiction of abuse. Digital creator P nems Collection wrote: " Isencane Lengane is getting out of hand! We're not watching love any more — we're watching a young girl's potential being wasted while everyone claps. Thando wanted to go to school this year, but instead of helping her they gave us a new squad of 'friends of the show'. For what? Views? She's still sitting in those red walls. Still stuck. Instead of TikTok Lives, Thando should be in a lecture room! "This show had a chance to transform her life — but what do they do? Entertain us with toxicity. And those five 'mothers'? They're not mentors — they're the reason she's still locked in that mess. "We said NO to this marriage from the start. Now we're writing to [Broadcasting Complaints Commission of SA] because this is no longer a storyline — it's a red flag. Thando deserves better. Thando deserves education. Not this cycle of pain.#JusticeForThando #IsencaneLengane #DoBetterMojaLove.'

Should Moja Love cancel its Isencane Lengane show?
Viewers of Moja Love's controversial reality TV show Isencane Lengane are calling for the show's cancellation due to its alleged depiction of abuse. The show follows the lives of a young married couple, Siyacela Dlamuka and Thando Msomi, who got married when they were teenagers. A recent episode sparked outrage among viewers, with many raising concerns about the couple's alleged toxicity. It's not the first time viewers have expressed outrage about the airing of the show. In January 2023, the couple was seen involved in a heated argument, with Dlamuka becoming violent. The channel said they 'intervened as the incident was happening' and contacted the police, who gave Msomi the option to open a case against her partner, which she declined. Head of channel at Moja Love, Bokani Moyo, said airing the episode was a way to depict what was happening in communities today. 'As a channel, we take violence of any sort seriously, and we do not condone or support GBV in any way. It was important to air this episode of Isencane Lengane, as it is our social responsibility to educate our audiences and mirror what is happening in our communities.' Moja Love was later allegedly fined R50,000 by the Broadcasting Complaints Commission of South Africa for airing an episode of Isencane Lengane that depicted domestic violence.
